Obadiah 1:1

The Doom of Edom This prophecy is directed specifically against the nation of Edom, who were long-time enemies of Israel. Some interpreters also see Edom as a symbol for all the enemies of God’s people, and others connect it to later enemies such as Rome. The message assures Israel that, although Edom may seem powerful now, God will bring them down, and ultimately the enemies of God’s people will face judgment. v. 1: The prophecy begins with a declaration of war against Edom. Obadiah has received a message (or “rumor”) from the Lord
