Habakkuk 2

Darby Bible

1I will standH5975 upon my watchH6822, and setH5975 me upon the tower, and will lookH7200 forth to seeH7200 what he will sayH1696 unto me, and what I shall answer as to my reproof. 2And Jehovah answered me and saidH559, WriteH3789 the visionH2377, and engrave it upon tabletsH3871, that he may runH7323 that readeth it. 3For the visionH2377 is yetH5750 for an appointedH4150 timeH4150, but it hasteth to the endH7093, and shall not lieH3576: though it tarry, waitH2442 for it; for it will surely comeH935, it will not delayH309. 4Behold, his soulH5315 is puffed up, it is not upright within him: but the just shall liveH2421 by his faith. 5And moreover, the wineH3196 is treacherousH898: he is a proud manH1397, and keepeth not at rest, he enlargeth his desireH5315 as SheolH7585, and he is like deathH4194 and cannot be satisfiedH7646; and he assembleth unto him all nationsH1471, and gathereth unto him all peoplesH5971. 6Shall not all these takeH5375 up a proverbH4912 about him, and a taunting riddleH2420 against him, and sayH559, WoeH1945 to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? — and to him that loadeth himself with pledges! 7Shall they not riseH6965 up suddenlyH6621 that shall bite thee, and they awake up that shall vex thee, and thou shalt beH1961 for booties unto them? 8Because thou hast plunderedH7997 manyH7227 nationsH1471, all the restH3499 of the peoplesH5971 shall plunder thee; because of men's bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 [done] to the landH776, to the city, and all that dwellH3427 therein. 9WoeH1945 to him that getteth iniquitous gainH1215 to his houseH1004, that he may setH7760 his nestH7064 on highH4791, that he may be deliveredH5337 from the grasp of evilH7451! 10Thou hast devised shameH1322 to thy houseH1004, by cutting off manyH7227 peoplesH5971, and hast sinnedH2398 against thine ownH5315 soulH5315. 11For the stoneH68 shall cryH2199 out of the wallH7023, and the beam out of the timber shall answerH6030 it. 12WoeH1945 to him that buildeth a townH7151 with bloodH1818, and establisheth a cityH5892 by unrighteousnessH5766! 13Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hostsH6635 that the peoplesH5971 labour for the fireH784, and the nations wearyH3021 themselves in vain? 14For the earthH776 shall be filledH4390 with the knowledge of the gloryH3519 of Jehovah as the watersH4325 coverH3680 the seaH3220. 15WoeH1945 unto him that giveth his neighbour drinkH8248, — that pourest out thy flask, and makest [him] drunken alsoH637, that thou mayest lookH5027 on their nakedness! 16Thou art filled with shameH7036 instead of gloryH3519; drinkH8354 thou alsoH1571, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cupH3563 of Jehovah's rightH3225 handH3225 shall be turnedH5437 unto thee, and a shameful spewing shall be on thy gloryH3519. 17For the violenceH2555 [done] to LebanonH3844 shall coverH3680 thee, and the destructionH7701 of beasts which made them afraid; because of men's bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 [done] to the landH776, to the city, and all that dwellH3427 therein. 18What profiteth the graven imageH6459 that the maker thereof hath graven it? the molten imageH6459, and the teacher of falsehoodH8267, that the maker of his work dependeth thereon, to makeH6213 dumb idolsH457? 19WoeH1945 unto him that saith to the woodH6086, AwakeH5782! to the dumb stoneH68, Arise! Shall it teachH3384? Behold it is overlaid with goldH2091 and silverH3701, and there is no breathH7307 at all in the midstH7130 of it. 20But Jehovah is in his holyH6944 templeH1964. Let all the earthH776 keep silence before him!
