Habakkuk 2

American Standard Version

1I will standH5975 upon my watchH6822, and setH5975 me upon the tower, and will lookH7200 forth to seeH7200 what he will speakH1696 with me, and what I shall answer concerning my complaint. 2And Jehovah answered me, and saidH559, WriteH3789 the visionH2377, and make it plain upon tabletsH3871, that he may runH7323 that readeth it. 3For the visionH2377 is yetH5750 for the appointedH4150 timeH4150, and it hasteth toward the endH7093, and shall not lieH3576: though it tarry, waitH2442 for it; because it will surely comeH935, it will not delayH309.

4Behold, his soulH5315 is puffed up, it is not upright in him; but the righteousH6662 shall liveH2421 by his faith. 5Yea, moreover, wineH3196 is treacherousH898, a haughty manH1397, that keepeth not at home; who enlargeth his desireH5315 as SheolH7585, and he is as deathH4194, and cannot be satisfiedH7646, but gathereth unto him all nationsH1471, and heapeth unto him all peoplesH5971. 6Shall not all these takeH5375 up a parableH4912 against him, and a taunting proverbH4912 against him, and sayH559, WoeH1945 to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and that ladeth himself with pledges! 7Shall they not riseH6965 up suddenlyH6621 that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt beH1961 for booty unto them? 8Because thou hast plunderedH7997 manyH7227 nationsH1471, all the remnant of the peoplesH5971 shall plunder thee, because of men’sH120 bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 done to the landH776, to the city and to all that dwellH3427 therein.

9WoeH1945 to him that getteth an evilH7451 gainH1215 for his houseH1004, that he may setH7760 his nestH7064 on highH4791, that he may be deliveredH5337 from the handH3709 of evilH7451! 10Thou hast devised shameH1322 to thy houseH1004, by cutting off manyH7227 peoplesH5971, and hast sinnedH2398 against thy soulH5315. 11For the stoneH68 shall cryH2199 out of the wallH7023, and the beam out of the timber shall answerH6030 it.

12WoeH1945 to him that buildeth a townH7151 with bloodH1818, and establisheth a cityH5892 by iniquity! 13Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hostsH6635 that the peoplesH5971 laborH3021 for the fireH784, and the nations wearyH3021 themselves for vanity? 14For the earthH776 shall be filledH4390 with the knowledge of the gloryH3519 of Jehovah, as the watersH4325 coverH3680 the seaH3220.

15WoeH1945 unto him that giveth his neighborH7453 drinkH8248, to thee that addest thy venom, and makest him drunken alsoH637, that thou mayest lookH5027 on their nakedness! 16Thou art filled with shameH7036, and not gloryH3519: drinkH8354 thou alsoH1571, and be as one uncircumcised; the cupH3563 of Jehovah’s rightH3225 handH3225 shall come roundH5437 unto thee, and foul shameH7036 shall be upon thy gloryH3519. 17For the violenceH2555 done to LebanonH3844 shall coverH3680 thee, and the destructionH7701 of the beasts, which made them afraid; because of men’sH120 bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 done to the landH776, to the city and to all that dwellH3427 therein.

18What profiteth the graven imageH6459, that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten imageH6459, even the teacher of liesH8267, that he that fashioneth its form trusteth therein, to makeH6213 dumb idolsH457? 19WoeH1945 unto him that saith to the woodH6086, AwakeH5782; to the dumb stoneH68, Arise! Shall this teachH3384? Behold, it is overlaid with goldH2091 and silverH3701, and there is no breathH7307 at all in the midstH7130 of it. 20But Jehovah is in his holyH6944 templeH1964: let all the earthH776 keep silence before him.
