Habakkuk 2
Revised Version 1895
1I WILL standH5975 uponH5921 my watchH6822, and setH5975 meH7725 uponH5921 the tower, and will lookH7200 forthH3320 to seeH7200 whatH4100 he will speakH1696 with meH7725, and whatH4100 I shall answerH7725 concerning my complaint. 2And the LORDH3068 answeredH559 meH5921, and saidH559, WriteH3789 the visionH2377, and makeH7121 it plain uponH5921 tables, that he may runH7323 that readeth it. 3For the visionH2377 is yet for the appointedH4150 time, and it hasteth towardH935 the endH7093, and shall notH3808 lieH3576: thoughH3588 it tarryH309, waitH2442 for it; becauseH3588 it will surelyH3588 comeH935, it will notH3808 delayH309. 4BeholdH2009, his soulH5315 is puffed upH6662, it is notH3808 upright in him: but the justH6662 shall liveH2421 by his faithH530. 5YeaH3588, moreoverH637, wineH3196 is a treacherousH898 dealer, a haughtyH3093 manH1397, and that keepeth notH3808 at home; who enlargeth his desireH5315 as hell, and he is as deathH4194, and cannotH3808 be satisfiedH7646, but gathereth unto him allH3605 nationsH1471, and heapeth unto him allH3605 peoplesH5971. 6Shall notH3808 allH3605 theseH428 takeH5375 upH5375 a parableH4912 againstH5921 him, and a taunting proverbH4912 againstH5921 him, and sayH559, WoeH1945 to him that increaseth that whichH428 is notH3808 his! howH4970 longH5704? and that ladeth himselfH3513 with pledges! 7Shall they notH3808 riseH6965 upH6965 suddenlyH6621 that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them? 8BecauseH3588 thou hast spoiled manyH7227 nationsH1471, allH3605 the remnant of the peoplesH5971 shall spoil thee; becauseH3588 of men’sH120 bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 doneH3605 to the landH776, to the cityH7151 and to allH3605 that dwellH3427 therein. 9WoeH1945 to him that getteth an evilH7451 gainH1215 for his houseH1004, that he may setH7760 his nestH7064 on highH4791, that he may be deliveredH5337 from the handH3709 of evilH7451! 10Thou hast consultedH3289 shameH1322 to thy houseH1004, by cuttingH7096 offH7096 manyH7227 peoplesH5971, and hast sinnedH2398 againstH2398 thy soulH5315. 11For the stoneH68 shall cryH2199 outH2199 of the wallH7023, and the beam outH2199 of the timberH6086 shall answerH6030 it. 12WoeH1945 to him that buildeth a townH7151 with bloodH1818, and stablisheth a cityH5892 by iniquityH5766! 13BeholdH2009, is it notH3808 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 that the peoplesH5971 labour for the fireH784, and the nationsH5971 wearyH3021 themselves for vanity? 14For the earthH776 shall be filledH4390 with the knowledgeH3045 of the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068, as the watersH4325 coverH3680 the seaH3220. 15WoeH1945 unto him that giveth his neighbour drinkH8248, that addest thy venom thereto, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest lookH5027 on their nakednessH4589! 16Thou art filledH7646 with shameH7036 for gloryH3519: drinkH8354 thou also, and be as one uncircumcised: the cupH3563 of the LORD’SH3068 rightH3225 handH3225 shall be turnedH5437 unto thee, and foul shameH7036 shall be uponH5921 thy gloryH3519. 17For the violenceH2555 doneH3605 to LebanonH3844 shall coverH3680 thee, and the destructionH7701 of the beastsH929, whichH929 madeH3605 them afraid; becauseH3588 of men’sH120 bloodH1818, and for the violenceH2555 doneH3605 to the landH776, to the cityH7151 and to allH3605 that dwellH3427 therein. 18WhatH4100 profiteth the gravenH6459 imageH6459, that the makerH3335 thereof hath gravenH6459 it; the molten imageH6459, and the teacherH3384 of liesH8267, that the makerH3335 of his work trusteth therein, to makeH6213 dumb idolsH457? 19WoeH1945 unto him that saith to the woodH6086, AwakeH5782; to the dumb stoneH68, AriseH5782! Shall this teachH3384? BeholdH2009, it is laidH3384 over with goldH2091 and silverH3701, and there is noH369 breathH7307 at allH3605 in the midstH7130 of it. 20But the LORDH3068 is in his holyH6944 templeH1964: let allH3605 the earthH776 keepH2013 silenceH2013 beforeH6440 him.
