Amos 5
Darby Bible
1HearH8085 this wordH1697, a lamentationH7015, which I takeH5375 up against you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. 2The virginH1330 of IsraelH3478 is fallenH5307; she shall no more ariseH6965: she is castH5307 downH5307 upon her landH127; there is none to raiseH6965 her up. 3For thusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: The cityH5892 that wentH3318 forthH3318 a thousandH505 shall have a hundredH3967 leftH7604, and that which wentH3318 forthH3318 a hundredH3967 shall have tenH6235 leftH7604, for the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. 4For thusH3541 saith Jehovah unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: SeekH1875 ye me, and ye shall liveH2421. 5And seekH1875 not Bethel, neither goH935 to GilgalH1537, and passH5674 not to Beer-sheba; for GilgalH1537 shall surely goH935 into captivity, and Bethel shall comeH935 to nought. 6SeekH1875 Jehovah, and ye shall liveH2421; lestH6435 he break out like fireH784 in the houseH1004 of JosephH3130, and devourH398 [it], and there be none to quenchH3518 [it] in Bethel. 7Ye who turnH2015 judgmentH4941 to wormwoodH3939, and cast down righteousnessH6666 to the earthH776, 8[seek him] that madeH6213 the PleiadesH3598 and OrionH3685, and turneth the shadow of death into the morningH1242, and maketh the dayH3117 darkH2821 with nightH3915; that calleth for the watersH4325 of the seaH3220, and poureth them out upon the faceH6440 of the earthH776: Jehovah is his nameH8034. 9He causeth destructionH7701 to break forth suddenly upon the strongH5794, and bringeth destructionH7701 upon the fortressH4013. 10They hateH8130 him that reproveth in the gateH8179, and they abhorH8581 him that speaketh uprightly. 11Forasmuch, thereforeH3651, as ye trample upon the poorH1800, and takeH3947 from him presents of wheat: ye have builtH1129 housesH1004 of hewnH1496 stoneH1496, but ye shall not dwellH3427 in them; ye have plantedH5193 pleasant vineyardsH3754, and ye shall not drinkH8354 the wineH3196 of them. 12For I knowH3045 how manifold are your transgressionsH6588 and your sinsH2403 mightyH6099: they afflict the just, they takeH3947 a bribe, and they turnH5186 asideH5186 [the right of] the needyH34 in the gateH8179. 13ThereforeH3651 the prudent shall keep silence in this timeH6256; for it is an evilH7451 timeH6256. 14SeekH1875 goodH2896, and not evilH7451, that ye may liveH2421; and soH3651 Jehovah, the 1GodH430 of hostsH6635, shall beH1961 with you, as ye sayH559. 15HateH8130 evilH7451, and loveH157 goodH2896, and establish judgmentH4941 in the gateH8179: it may be that Jehovah, the 2GodH430 of hostsH6635, will be gracious unto the remnantH7611 of JosephH3130. 16ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah, the 3GodH430 of hostsH6635, the Lord: WailingH5092 shall be in all broadways; and they shall sayH559 in all the streetsH2351, AlasH1930! alasH1930! And they shall callH7121 the husbandman to mourningH60, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailingH5092. 17And in all vineyardsH3754 shall be wailingH4553; for I will passH5674 through the midstH7130 of thee, saith Jehovah. 18WoeH1945 unto you that desireH183 the dayH3117 of Jehovah! To what end is the dayH3117 of Jehovah for you? It shall be darknessH2822 and not lightH216: 19as if a manH376 fledH5127 from a lionH738, and a bearH1677 metH6293 him; or wentH935 into the houseH1004 and leanedH5564 his handH3027 on the wallH7023, and a serpent bit him. 20Shall not the dayH3117 of Jehovah be darknessH2822, and not lightH216? even very dark, and no brightnessH5051 in it? 21I hateH8130, I despise your feastsH2282, and I will not smellH7306 [a sweet odour] in your solemnH6116 assembliesH6116. 22For if ye offerH5927 up unto me burnt-offerings and your oblations, I will not acceptH7521 [them]; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fatted beasts. 23Take awayH5493 from me the noiseH1995 of thy songsH7892, and I will not hearH8085 the melody of thy lutes; 24but let judgmentH4941 rollH1556 down as watersH4325, and righteousnessH6666 as an ever-flowing stream. 25Did ye bringH5066 unto me sacrificesH2077 and oblations in the wildernessH4057 fortyH705 yearsH8141, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? 26Yea, ye tookH5375 up the tabernacle of your Moloch, and Chiun your imagesH6754, the starH3556 of your 4godH430, which ye had madeH6213 to yourselves; 27and I will cause you to goH1540 into captivity beyond DamascusH1834, saith Jehovah, whose nameH8034 is the 5GodH430 of hostsH6635.
