6Then the Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068will rushוְצָלְחָ֤הve.tza.le.ChahH6743upon youעָלֶ֙יךָ֙'a.Lei.khaH5921,and you will prophesyוְהִתְנַבִּ֖יתָve.hit.na.Bi.taH5012with themעִמָּ֑ם'i.MamH5973;and you will be transformedוְנֶהְפַּכְתָּ֖ve.neh.pakh.TaH2015into a differentאַחֵֽר׃'a.CherH312personלְאִ֥ישׁle.'IshH376.
7וְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961Whenכִּ֥יkiH3588theseהָאֵ֖לֶּהha.'E.lehH428signsהָאֹת֥וֹתha.'o.TotH226have comeתָבֹ֛אנָהte.vo.'ei.nahH935,doעֲשֵׂ֤ה'a.SehH6213as the occasionאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834demandsתִּמְצָ֣א יָדֶ֔ךָtim.Tza' ya.De.khaH4672H3027,forכִּ֥יkiH3588Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430iswith youעִמָּֽךְ׃'i.MakhH5973.

Samuel’s Signs Fulfilled

10When Saul and his servant arrivedוַיָּבֹ֤אוּ שָׁם֙vai.ya.Vo.'u shamH935H8033at Gibeahוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH1389H2009,a groupחֶֽבֶל־che.vel-H2256of prophetsנְבִאִ֖יםne.vi.'ImH5030met himלִקְרָאת֑וֹlik.ra.ToH7122.Then the Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430rushedוַתִּצְלַ֤חva.titz.LachH6743upon himעָלָיו֙'a.LavH5921,and he prophesiedוַיִּתְנַבֵּ֖אvai.yit.na.Be'H5012along with themבְּתוֹכָֽם׃be.to.KhamH8432.
11Whenוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961all thoseכָּל־kol-H3605who had formerlyמֵאִתְּמ֣וֹלme.'i.te.MolH865knownיֽוֹדְעוֹ֙ שִׁלְשׁ֔וֹםyod.'O shil.ShomH3045H8032Saulsaw himוַיִּרְא֕וּ וְהִנֵּ֥הvai.yir.'U ve.hi.NehH7200H2009prophesyingנִבָּ֑אni.Ba'H5012withעִם־'im-H5973the prophetsנְבִאִ֖יםne.vi.'ImH5030,they askedוַיֹּ֨אמֶר הָעָ֜םvai.Yo.mer ha.'AmH559H5971oneאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376anotherאֶל־ רֵעֵ֗הוּ'el- re.'E.huH413H7453, “Whatמַה־ זֶּה֙mah- zehH4100H2088has happenedהָיָ֣הha.YahH1961to the sonלְבֶן־le.ven-H1121of Kishקִ֔ישׁKishH7027?Is Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586alsoהֲגַ֥םha.GamH1571among the prophetsבַּנְּבִיאִֽים׃ba.ne.vi.'ImH5030?”
12Then a manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376who lived thereמִשָּׁ֛ם וַיֹּ֖אמֶרmi.Sham vai.Yo.merH8033H559repliedוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “And whoוּמִ֣יu.MiH4310is their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֑ם'a.vi.HemH1?”Soעַל־'al-H5921the sayingכֵּן֙kenH3651becameהָיְתָ֣הha.ye.TahH1961a proverbלְמָשָׁ֔לle.ma.ShalH4912: “Is Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586alsoהֲגַ֥םha.GamH1571among the prophetsבַּנְּבִאִֽים׃ba.ne.vi.'ImH5030?”
14Now Saul’sשָׁא֥וּלsha.'UlH7586uncleדּ֨וֹדDodH1730askedוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559himאֵלָ֛יו'e.LavH413andוְאֶֽל־ve.'el-H413his servantנַעֲר֖וֹna.'a.RoH5288, “Whereאָ֣ן'anH575did you goהֲלַכְתֶּ֑םha.lakh.TemH1980?” “To look forלְבַקֵּשׁ֙le.va.KeshH1245אֶת־'et-H853the donkeysהָ֣אֲתֹנ֔וֹתha.'a.to.NotH860,”Saul repliedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “When we sawוַנִּרְאֶ֣ה כִי־va.nir.'Eh khi-H7200H3588they were not to be foundאַ֔יִן'A.yinH369,we wentוַנָּב֖וֹאva.na.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃she.mu.'ElH8050.”
16And Saulשָׁאוּל֙ אֶל־sha.'Ul 'el-H7586H413repliedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559דּוֹד֔וֹdo.DoH1730, “He assuredH5046usthatכִּ֥יkiH3588the donkeysהָאֲתֹנ֑וֹתha.'a.to.NotH860וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853had been foundנִמְצְא֖וּnim.tze.'UH4672.”But Saul did notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808tellH5046his unclewhatאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ פshe.mu.'ElH8050had saidאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559aboutדְּבַ֤רde.VarH1697the kingshipהַמְּלוּכָה֙ha.me.lu.KhahH4410.
Saul Proclaimed King
18and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל פbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121H3478, “This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,saysאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559: ‘Iאָנֹכִ֛י'a.no.KhiH595broughtהֶעֱלֵ֥יתִיhe.'e.Lei.tiH5927אֶת־'et-H853Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478up out of Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,and I rescuedוָאַצִּ֤ילva.'a.TzilH5337youאֶתְכֶם֙'et.KhemH853from the handsמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027of the Egyptiansמִצְרַ֔יִם וּמִיַּד֙mitz.Ra.yim u.mi.YadH4714H3027and of allכָּל־kol-H3605the kingdomsהַמַּמְלָכ֔וֹתha.mam.la.KhotH4467that oppressed youהַלֹּחֲצִ֖יםha.lo.cha.TzimH3905אֶתְכֶֽם׃'et.KhemH853.’
19But todayהַיּ֜וֹםhai.YomH3117youוְאַתֶּ֨םve.'a.TemH859have rejectedמְאַסְתֶּ֣םme.'as.TemH3988אֶת־'et-H853your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֗ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,whoאֲשֶׁר־ ה֣וּא'a.Sher- hu'H834H1931savesמוֹשִׁ֣יעַmo.Shi.a'H3467youfrom allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605your troublesרָעוֹתֵיכֶ֣םra.'o.tei.KhemH7451and afflictionsוְצָרֹֽתֵיכֶם֒ve.tza.ro.tei.KhemH6869,and you have saidוַתֹּ֣אמְרוּva.To.me.ruH559to Him, ‘Noכִּי־ki-H3588,setתָּשִׂ֣יםta.SimH7760a kingמֶ֖לֶךְMe.lekhH4428over usעָלֵ֑ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921.’Now thereforeוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258present yourselvesהִֽתְיַצְּבוּ֙hit.ya.tze.VuH3320beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068by your tribesלְשִׁבְטֵיכֶ֖םle.shiv.tei.KhemH7626and clansוּלְאַלְפֵיכֶֽם׃u.le.'al.fei.KhemH505.”
21Then he had the tribeשֵׁ֤בֶטShe.vetH7626of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144come forwardוַיַּקְרֵ֞בvai.yak.RevH7126אֶת־'et-H853by its clansלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔יוle.mish.pe.cho.tovH4940,and the clanמִשְׁפַּ֣חַתmish.Pa.chatH4940of Matriהַמַּטְרִ֑יha.mat.RiH4309was selectedוַתִּלָּכֵ֖דva.ti.la.KhedH3920.Finally, Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kishקִ֔ישׁKishH7027was selectedוַיִּלָּכֵד֙vai.yi.la.KhedH3920.But when they looked for himוַיְבַקְשֻׁ֖הוּvay.vak.Shu.huH1245,they could notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808find himנִמְצָֽא׃nim.Tza'H4672.
22So againעוֹד֙'OdH5750they inquiredוַיִּשְׁאֲלוּ־vai.yish.'a.lu-H7592of the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֔הba.Yah.wehH3068, “Has the manאִ֑ישׁ ס'IshH376comeהֲבָ֥אha.Va'H935hereהֲלֹ֣םha.LomH1988yetע֖וֹדodH5750?”And the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068repliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009,he has hiddenנֶחְבָּ֖אnech.Ba'H2244himselfה֥וּאhu'H1931amongאֶל־'el-H413the baggageהַכֵּלִֽים׃ha.ke.LimH3627.”
23So they ranוַיָּרֻ֙צוּ֙vai.ya.Ru.tzuH7323and broughtוַיִּקָּחֻ֣הוּvai.yi.ka.Chu.huH3947Saulמִשָּׁ֔םmi.ShamH8033,and when he stoodוַיִּתְיַצֵּ֖בvai.yit.ya.TzevH3320amongבְּת֣וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971,he was a headמִשִּׁכְמ֖וֹ וָמָֽעְלָה׃mi.shikh.Mo va.Ma.'e.lahH7926H4605tallerוַיִּגְבַּהּ֙vai.yig.BahH1361than anyמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605of the othersהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971.
24Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֜לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971, “Do you seeהַרְּאִיתֶם֙ha.re.'i.TemH7200the oneאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔ה כִּ֛יYah.weh kiH3068H3588has chosenבָּֽחַר־ba.char-H977? There isno oneאֵ֥ין'einH369like himכָּמֹ֖הוּka.Mo.huH3644among allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971.”And allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֛ם וַיֹּאמְר֖וּha.'Am vai.yo.me.RuH5971H559shoutedוַיָּרִ֧עוּvai.ya.Ri.'uH7321, “Long liveיְחִ֥יye.ChiH2421the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ פha.Me.lekhH4428!”
25Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֜לshe.mu.'ElH8050explainedוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971אֵ֚ת'etH853the rightsמִשְׁפַּ֣טmish.PatH4941of kingshipהַמְּלֻכָ֔הha.me.lu.KhahH4410.He wrote themוַיִּכְתֹּ֣בvai.yikh.ToH3789on a scrollבַּסֵּ֔פֶרba.Se.ferH5612and laid it upוַיַּנַּ֖חvai.ya.NachH5117beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֛לshe.mu.'ElH8050אֶת־'et-H853sent allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971awayוַיְשַׁלַּ֧חvay.sha.LachH7971,eachאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376to his own homeלְבֵיתֽוֹ׃le.vei.ToH1004.
26Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586alsoוְגַ֨ם־ve.Gam-H1571wentהָלַ֥ךְha.LakhH1980to his homeלְבֵית֖וֹle.vei.ToH1004in Gibeahגִּבְעָ֑תָהgiv.'A.tahH1390,and the men of valorהַחַ֕יִלha.Cha.yilH2428whoseאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834heartsבְּלִבָּֽם׃be.li.BamH3820Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430had touchedנָגַ֥עna.Ga'H5060wentוַיֵּלְכ֣וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980with himעִמּ֔וֹi.MoH5973.
27But some worthlessבְלִיַּ֣עַלve.li.Ya.'alH1100menוּבְנֵ֧יu.ve.NeiH1121saidאָמְר֗וּ'a.me.RuH559, “Howמַה־mah-H4100can thisזֶ֔הZehH2088mansave usיֹּשִׁעֵ֙נוּ֙yo.shi.'E.nuH3467?”So they despised himוַיִּבְזֻ֕הוּvai.yiv.Zu.huH959and broughtהֵבִ֥יאוּhe.Vi.'uH935himnoוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808giftsמִנְחָ֑הmin.ChahH4503;but Saul remainedוַיְהִ֖יvay.HiH1961silentכְּמַחֲרִֽישׁ׃ פke.ma.cha.RishH2790about it.
