1David, howeverדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732,saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413himselfלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820, “Oneאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259of these daysיוֹם־yom-H3117nowעַתָּ֛ה'a.TahH6258I will be swept awayאֶסָּפֶ֥ה'e.sa.PehH5595by the handבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586.There is nothingאֵֽין־'ein-H369betterט֜וֹבTovH2896for methanכִּ֣יkiH3588to escapeH4422toאֶל־'el-H413the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗יםpe.lish.TimH6430.Then Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586will stopוְנוֹאַ֨שׁve.no.'AshH2976searchingלְבַקְשֵׁ֤נִיle.vak.She.niH1245for meמִמֶּ֤נִּי עוֹד֙mi.Me.ni 'OdH4480 H5750all overבְּכָל־ גְּב֣וּלbe.khol ge.VulH3605 H1366Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and I will slipH4422out of his handמִיָּדֽוֹ׃mi.ya.DoH3027.”

2So Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732set outוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965withעִמּ֑וֹi.MoH5973his sixוְשֵׁשׁ־ve.shesh-H8337hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967menאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834and wentוַיַּעֲבֹ֣ר ה֔וּאvai.ya.'a.Vor Hu'H5674 H1931toאֶל־'el-H413Achishאָכִ֥ישׁ'a.KhishH397sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Maochמָע֖וֹךְma.'okhH4582,the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Gathגַּֽת׃GatH1661.

3Davidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732and his menוַאֲנָשָׁ֖יוva.'a.na.ShavH582settledוַיֵּשֶׁב֩vai.ye.ShevH3427in Gathבְּגַ֛תbe.GatH1661withעִם־'im-H5973Achishאָכִ֥ישׁ ה֥וּא'a.Khish hu'H397 H1931.Each manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376had his family with himוּבֵית֑וֹu.vei.ToH1004,and Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732had his twoוּשְׁתֵּ֣יu.she.TeiH8147wivesנָשָׁ֔יוna.ShavH802:Ahinoamאֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙'a.chi.No.'amH293of Jezreelהַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֔יתhai.yiz.re.'e.LitH3158and Abigailוַאֲבִיגַ֥יִלva.'a.vi.Ga.yilH26of Carmelהַֽכַּרְמְלִֽית׃Ha.kar.me.LitH3761,the widowאֵֽשֶׁת־'e.shet-H802of Nabalנָבָ֖לna.ValH5037.

4And when Saulלְשָׁא֔וּלle.sha.'UlH7586learnedוַיֻּגַּ֣דvai.yu.GadH5046thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732had fledבָרַ֥חva.RachH1272to Gathגַּ֑תGatH1661,he noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerיָסַ֥ף ע֖וֹדyo.saf odH3254 H5750searched for himלְבַקְשֽׁוֹ׃ סle.vak.ShoH1245.

9Whenever Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732אֶת־'et-H853attackedוְהִכָּ֤הve.hi.KahH5221a territoryהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,he did notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808leaveיְחַיֶּ֖הye.chai.YehH2421a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376or woman aliveוְאִשָּׁ֑הve.'i.ShahH802,but he tookוְלָקַח֩ve.la.KachH3947the flocksצֹ֨אןtzonH6629and herdsוּבָקָ֜רu.va.KarH1241,the donkeysוַחֲמֹרִ֤יםva.cha.mo.RimH2543,camelsוּגְמַלִּים֙u.ge.ma.LimH1581,and clothingוּבְגָדִ֔יםu.ve.ga.DimH899.Then he would returnוַיָּ֖שָׁב וַיָּבֹ֥אvai.Ya.shov vai.ya.Vo'H7725 H935toאֶל־'el-H413Achishאָכִֽישׁ׃'a.KhishH397,

11Davidדָוִ֗דda.VidH1732did not leaveלֹֽא־lo'-H3808a manוְאִ֨ישׁve.'IshH376or womanוְאִשָּׁ֜הve.'i.ShahH802aliveיְחַיֶּ֣הye.chai.YehH2421to be broughtלְהָבִ֥יאle.ha.Vi'H935to Gathגַת֙gatH1661,for he saidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Otherwiseפֶּן־pen-H6435they will reportיַגִּ֥דוּya.Gi.duH5046usעָלֵ֖ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, ‘This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732didעָשָׂ֤ה'a.SahH6213.’”And thisוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541was David’s customמִשְׁפָּט֔וֹmish.pa.ToH4941the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605timeהַ֨יָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he livedיָשַׁ֖בya.ShavH3427in Philistineפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃fe.lish.TimH6430territoryבִּשְׂדֵ֥הbis.DehH7704.

12So Achishאָכִ֖ישׁ'a.KhishH397trustedוַיַּאֲמֵ֥ןvai.ya.'a.MenH539Davidבְּדָוִ֣דbe.da.VidH1732,thinkingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Since he has made himself an utter stenchH887to his peopleבְּעַמּ֣וֹbe.'a.MoH5971Israelבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,he will beוְהָ֥יָהve.Ha.yahH1961myservantלְעֶ֥בֶדle.'E.vedH5650foreverעוֹלָֽם׃ פo.LamH5769.”
