Judges 15
American Standard Version
1But it cameH935 to pass after a while, in the time of wheatH2406 harvestH7105, that SamsonH8123 visited his wifeH802 with a kid; and he saidH559, I will goH935 in to my wifeH802 into the chamberH2315. But her fatherH1 would not suffer him to goH935 in. 2And her fatherH1 saidH559, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hatedH8130 her; therefore I gaveH5414 her to thy companionH4828: isH1961 not her youngerH6996 sisterH269 fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her. 3And SamsonH8123 saidH559 unto them, This timeH6471 shall I be blameless in regard of the PhilistinesH6430, when I do them a mischief. 4And SamsonH8123 went and caughtH3920 threeH7969 hundredH3967 foxesH7776, and tookH3947 firebrands, and turnedH6437 tailH2180 to tailH2180, and putH7760 a firebrand in the midstH8432 between every twoH8147 tailsH2180. 5And when he had set the brands on fireH784, he let them goH7971 into the standingH7054 grainH7054 of the PhilistinesH6430, and burnt up both the shocks and the standingH7054 grainH7054, and also the oliveyards. 6Then the PhilistinesH6430 saidH559, Who hath done this? And they saidH559, SamsonH8123, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he hath takenH3947 his wifeH802, and givenH5414 her to his companionH4828. And the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 up, and burnt her and her fatherH1 with fireH784. 7And SamsonH8123 saidH559 unto them, If ye do after this manner, surely I will be avengedH5358 of you, and after that I will ceaseH2308. 8And he smote them hip and thighH3409 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347: and he wentH3381 downH3381 and dweltH3427 in the cleftH5585 of the rockH5553 of EtamH5862.
9Then the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 up, and encampedH2583 in JudahH3063, and spreadH5203 themselves in LehiH3896. 10And the menH376 of JudahH3063 saidH559, WhyH4100 are ye comeH5927 up against us? And they saidH559, To bindH631 SamsonH8123 are we comeH5927 up, to do to him as he hath done to us. 11Then threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to the cleftH5585 of the rockH5553 of EtamH5862, and saidH559 to SamsonH8123, Knowest thou not that the PhilistinesH6430 are rulersH4910 over us? what then is this that thou hast done unto us? And he saidH559 unto them, As they did unto me, soH3651 have I done unto them. 12And they saidH559 unto him, We are comeH3381 down to bindH631 thee, that we may deliver thee into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And SamsonH8123 saidH559 unto them, SwearH7650 unto me, that ye will not fallH6293 upon me yourselves. 13And they spake unto him, sayingH559, No; but we will bindH631 thee fast, and deliver thee into their handH3027: but surely we will not killH4191 thee. And they boundH631 him with twoH8147 newH2319 ropesH5688, and broughtH5927 him up from the rockH5553.
14When he cameH935 unto LehiH3896, the PhilistinesH6430 shoutedH7321 as they met him: and the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah cameH935 mightily upon him, and the ropesH5688 that were upon his armsH2220 becameH1961 as flaxH6593 that wasH1961 burnt with fireH784, and his bands dropped from off his handsH3027. 15And he foundH4672 a freshH2961 jawboneH3895 of an ass, and put forthH7971 his handH3027, and tookH3947 it, and smote a thousandH505 menH376 therewith. 16And SamsonH8123 saidH559,
17And it came to pass, when he had made an endH3615 of speakingH1696, that he castH7993 awayH7993 the jawboneH3895 out of his handH3027; and that placeH4725 wasH1961 calledH7121 Ramath-lehi. 18And he was sore athirst, and calledH7121 on Jehovah, and saidH559, Thou hast givenH5414 this greatH1419 deliveranceH8668 by the handH3027 of thy servantH5650; and nowH6258 shall I dieH4191 for thirstH6772, and fallH5307 into the handH3027 of the uncircumcisedH6189. 19But GodH430 clave the hollow placeH2088 that is in LehiH3896, and there cameH3318 waterH4325 thereout; and when he had drunkH8354, his spiritH7307 cameH3318 again, and he revived: wherefore the nameH8034 thereof was calledH7121 En-hakkore, which is in LehiH3896, unto this dayH3117. 20And he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 in the daysH3117 of the PhilistinesH6430 twentyH6242 yearsH8141.
