Judges 4

American Standard Version

1And the children of IsraelH3478 again did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, when EhudH164 was deadH4191. 2And Jehovah soldH4376 them into the handH3027 of JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667, that reignedH4427 in HazorH2674; the captain of whose hostH6635 was SiseraH5516, who dweltH3427 in Harosheth of the Gentiles. 3And the children of IsraelH3478 criedH6817 unto Jehovah: for he had nineH8672 hundredH3967 chariotsH7393 of ironH1270; and twentyH6242 yearsH8141 he mightily oppressedH3905 the children of IsraelH3478.

4Now DeborahH1683, a prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of Lappidoth, she judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 at that timeH6256. 5And she dweltH3427 under the palm-tree of DeborahH1683 between RamahH7414 and Beth-el in the hill-country of EphraimH669: and the children of IsraelH3478 cameH5927 up to her for judgmentH4941. 6And she sentH7971 and calledH7121 BarakH1301 the sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 out of Kedesh-naphtali, and saidH559 unto him, Hath not Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, commandedH6680, sayingH559, GoH7971 and drawH4900 unto mount TaborH8396, and takeH3947 with thee tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 of the children of NaphtaliH5321 and of the children of ZebulunH2074? 7And I will drawH4900 unto thee, to the riverH5158 KishonH7028, SiseraH5516, the captain of Jabin’s armyH6635, with his chariotsH7393 and his multitudeH1995; and I will deliver him into thy handH3027. 8And BarakH1301 saidH559 unto her, If thou wilt goH1980 with me, then I will goH1980; but if thou wilt not goH1980 with me, I will not goH1980. 9And she saidH559, I will surely goH1980 with thee: notwithstanding, the journeyH1870 that thou takest shall not beH1961 for thine honorH8597; for Jehovah will sellH4376 SiseraH5516 into the handH3027 of a womanH802. And DeborahH1683 aroseH6965, and wentH1980 with BarakH1301 to KedeshH6943. 10And BarakH1301 calledH2199 ZebulunH2074 and NaphtaliH5321 togetherH2199 to KedeshH6943; and there wentH5927 up tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 at his feetH7272: and DeborahH1683 wentH5927 up with him.

11Now HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017 had separatedH6504 himself from the Kenites, even from the children of HobabH2246 the brother-in-law of MosesH4872, and had pitchedH5186 his tentH168 as far as the oak in ZaanannimH6815, which is by KedeshH6943.

12And they toldH5046 SiseraH5516 that BarakH1301 the sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 was goneH5927 up to mount TaborH8396. 13And SiseraH5516 gathered togetherH2199 all his chariotsH7393, even nineH8672 hundredH3967 chariotsH7393 of ironH1270, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, unto the riverH5158 KishonH7028. 14And DeborahH1683 saidH559 unto BarakH1301, Up; for this is the dayH3117 in which Jehovah hath delivered SiseraH5516 into thy handH3027; is not Jehovah goneH3318 out before thee? So BarakH1301 wentH3318 downH3381 from mount TaborH8396, and tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 after him. 15And Jehovah discomfited SiseraH5516, and all his chariotsH7393, and all his host, with the edge of the swordH2719 before BarakH1301; and SiseraH5516 alighted from his chariotH4818, and fledH5127 away on his feetH7272. 16But BarakH1301 pursuedH7291 after the chariotsH7393, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of SiseraH5516 fellH5307 by the edge of the swordH2719; there was not a man leftH7604.

17Howbeit SiseraH5516 fledH5127 away on his feetH7272 to the tentH168 of JaelH3278 the wifeH802 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017; for there was peaceH7965 between JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of HazorH2674 and the houseH1004 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017. 18And JaelH3278 wentH3318 out to meet SiseraH5516, and saidH559 unto him, TurnH5493 in, my lordH113, turnH5493 in to me; fearH3372 not. And he turnedH5493 in unto her into the tentH168, and she coveredH3680 him with a rug. 19And he saidH559 unto her, GiveH8248 me, I pray thee, a littleH4592 waterH4325 to drinkH8248; for I am thirstyH6770. And she openedH6605 a bottle of milkH2461, and gave him drinkH8248, and coveredH3680 him. 20And he saidH559 unto her, StandH5975 in the doorH6607 of the tentH168, and it shall beH1961, when any manH376 doth comeH935 and inquire of thee, and sayH559, Is there any manH376 hereH6311? that thou shalt sayH559, No. 21Then JaelH3278 Heber’s wifeH802 tookH3947 a tent-pin, and tookH3947 a hammer in her handH3027, and wentH935 softly unto him, and smote the pinH3489 into his templesH7541, and it pierced through into the groundH776; for he was in a deep sleep; so he swooned and diedH4191. 22And, behold, as BarakH1301 pursuedH7291 SiseraH5516, JaelH3278 cameH935 out to meet him, and saidH559 unto him, ComeH935, and I will showH7200 thee the manH376 whom thou seekest. And he cameH935 unto her; and, behold, SiseraH5516 lay deadH4191, and the tent-pin was in his templesH7541.

23So GodH430 subduedH3665 on that dayH3117 JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of CanaanH3667 before the children of IsraelH3478. 24And the handH3027 of the children of IsraelH3478 prevailed more and more against JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of CanaanH3667, until they had destroyed JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667.
