Judges 13
American Standard Version
1And the children of IsraelH3478 again did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah delivered them into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430 fortyH705 yearsH8141.
2And there was a certain manH376 of ZorahH6881, of the familyH4940 of the Danites, whose nameH8034 was ManoahH4495; and his wifeH802 was barrenH6135, and bare not. 3And the angelH4397 of Jehovah appearedH7200 unto the womanH802, and saidH559 unto her, Behold now, thou art barrenH6135, and bearest not; but thou shalt conceiveH2029, and bearH3205 a sonH1121. 4NowH6258 thereforeH6258 beware, I pray thee, and drinkH8354 no wineH3196 nor strongH7941 drinkH8354, and eatH398 not any uncleanH2931 thing: 5for, lo, thou shalt conceiveH2029, and bearH3205 a sonH1121; and no razor shall come upon his headH7218; for the child shall beH1961 a NaziriteH5139 unto GodH430 from the wombH990: and he shall beginH2490 to saveH3467 IsraelH3478 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 6Then the womanH802 cameH935 and toldH5046 her husbandH376, sayingH559, A manH376 of GodH430 cameH935 unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angelH4397 of GodH430, veryH3966 terrible; and I askedH7592 him not whence he was, neither toldH5046 he me his nameH8034: 7but he saidH559 unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceiveH2029, and bearH3205 a sonH1121; and nowH6258 drinkH8354 no wineH3196 nor strongH7941 drinkH8354, and eatH398 not any unclean thing; for the child shall beH1961 a NaziriteH5139 unto GodH430 from the wombH990 to the dayH3117 of his deathH4194.
8Then ManoahH4495 entreatedH6279 Jehovah, and saidH559, Oh, Lord, I pray thee, let the manH376 of GodH430 whom thou didst sendH7971 comeH935 againH5750 unto us, and teachH3384 us what we shall do unto the child that shall be bornH3205. 9And GodH430 hearkened to the voiceH6963 of ManoahH4495; and the angelH4397 of GodH430 cameH935 againH5750 unto the womanH802 as she satH3427 in the fieldH7704: but ManoahH4495 her husbandH376 was not with her. 10And the womanH802 madeH4116 hasteH4116, and ranH7323, and toldH5046 her husbandH376, and saidH559 unto him, Behold, the manH376 hath appearedH7200 unto me, that cameH935 unto me the other dayH3117. 11And ManoahH4495 aroseH6965, and wentH935 after his wifeH802, and cameH935 to the manH376, and saidH559 unto him, Art thou the manH376 that spakest unto the womanH802? And he saidH559, I am. 12And ManoahH4495 saidH559, NowH6258 let thy wordsH1697 comeH935 to pass: what shall beH1961 the ordering of the child, and howH4100 shall we do unto him? 13And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 unto ManoahH4495, Of all that I saidH559 unto the womanH802 let her beware. 14She may not eatH398 of anything that cometh of the vineH1612, neither let her drinkH8354 wineH3196 or strongH7941 drinkH8354, nor eatH398 any unclean thing; all that I commandedH6680 her let her observeH8104.
15And ManoahH4495 saidH559 unto the angelH4397 of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detainH6113 thee, that we may makeH6213 ready a kid for thee. 16And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 unto ManoahH4495, Though thou detainH6113 me, I will not eatH398 of thy breadH3899; and if thou wilt makeH6213 ready a burnt-offering, thou must offerH5927 it unto Jehovah. For ManoahH4495 knewH3045 not that he was the angelH4397 of Jehovah. 17And ManoahH4495 saidH559 unto the angelH4397 of Jehovah, What is thy nameH8034, that, when thy wordsH1697 comeH935 to pass, we may do thee honorH3513? 18And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 unto him, Wherefore askest thou after my nameH8034, seeing it is wonderful? 19So ManoahH4495 tookH3947 the kid with the meal-offering, and offeredH5927 it upon the rockH6697 unto Jehovah: and the angel did wondrously, and ManoahH4495 and his wifeH802 lookedH7200 on. 20For it came to pass, when the flameH3851 wentH5927 up toward heavenH8064 from off the altarH4196, that the angelH4397 of Jehovah ascended in the flameH3851 of the altarH4196: and ManoahH4495 and his wifeH802 lookedH7200 on; and they fellH5307 on their facesH6440 to the groundH776.
21But the angelH4397 of Jehovah did no more appearH7200 to ManoahH4495 or to his wifeH802. ThenH227 ManoahH4495 knewH3045 that he was the angelH4397 of Jehovah. 22And ManoahH4495 saidH559 unto his wifeH802, We shall surely dieH4191, because we have seenH7200 GodH430. 23But his wifeH802 saidH559 unto him, If Jehovah were pleasedH2654 to killH4191 us, he would not have receivedH3947 a burnt-offering and a meal-offering at our handH3027, neither would he have showedH7200 us all these thingsH428, nor would at this timeH6256 have told such thingsH428 as these. 24And the womanH802 bare a sonH1121, and calledH7121 his nameH8034 SamsonH8123: and the child grewH1431, and Jehovah blessedH1288 him. 25And the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah beganH2490 to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between ZorahH6881 and EshtaolH847.
