Judges 7
American Standard Version
1Then JerubbaalH3378, who is GideonH1439, and all the peopleH5971 that were with him, roseH7925 up earlyH7925, and encampedH2583 beside the spring of Harod: and the campH4264 of MidianH4080 wasH1961 on the northH6828 side of them, by the hillH1389 of MorehH4176, in the valleyH6010.
2And Jehovah saidH559 unto GideonH1439, The peopleH5971 that are with thee are too manyH7227 for me to giveH5414 the Midianites into their handH3027, lestH6435 IsraelH3478 vaunt themselves against me, sayingH559, Mine own handH3027 hath savedH3467 me. 3NowH6258 thereforeH6258 proclaimH7121 in the earsH241 of the peopleH5971, sayingH559, Whosoever is fearful and trembling, let him returnH7725 and depart from mount GileadH1568. And there returnedH7725 of the peopleH5971 twentyH6242 and twoH8147 thousandH505; and there remainedH7604 tenH6235 thousandH505.
4And Jehovah saidH559 unto GideonH1439, The peopleH5971 are yetH5750 tooH7227 manyH7227; bringH3381 them downH3381 unto the waterH4325, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall beH1961, that of whom I sayH559 unto thee, This shall goH3381 with thee, the same shall goH3381 with thee; and of whomsoever I sayH559 unto thee, This shall not goH3381 with thee, the same shall not goH3381. 5So he broughtH3381 down the peopleH5971 unto the waterH4325: and Jehovah saidH559 unto GideonH1439, Every one that lappeth of the waterH4325 with his tongueH3956, as a dogH3611 lappeth, him shalt thou setH3322 by himself; likewise every one that boweth downH3381 upon his knees to drinkH8354. 6And the numberH4557 of them that lapped, putting their handH3027 to their mouthH6310, wasH1961 threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376: but all the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 bowedH3766 downH3766 upon their knees to drinkH8354 waterH4325. 7And Jehovah saidH559 unto GideonH1439, By the threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376 that lapped will I saveH3467 you, and deliverH3467 the Midianites into thy handH3027; and let all the peopleH5971 go every manH376 unto his placeH4725. 8So the peopleH5971 tookH3947 victuals in their handH3027, and their trumpetsH7782; and he sentH7971 all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 every manH376 unto his tentH168, but retained the threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376: and the campH4264 of MidianH4080 wasH1961 beneath him in the valleyH6010.
9And it came to pass the same nightH3915, that Jehovah saidH559 unto him, AriseH6965, get thee downH3381 into the campH4264; for I have delivered it into thy handH3027. 10But if thou fearH3373 to goH3381 down, goH3381 thou with PurahH6513 thy servantH5288 downH3381 to the campH4264: 11and thou shalt hearH8085 what they sayH1696; and afterward shall thy handsH3027 be strengthenedH2388 to goH3381 down into the campH4264. Then wentH3381 he downH3381 with PurahH6513 his servantH5288 unto the outermost part of the armed menH5288 that were in the campH4264. 12And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the eastH6924 lay along in the valleyH6010 like locustsH697 for multitudeH7230; and their camelsH1581 were without numberH4557, as the sandH2344 which is upon the sea-shore for multitudeH7230. 13And when GideonH1439 was comeH935, behold, there was a manH376 telling a dreamH2472 unto his fellow; and he saidH559, Behold, I dreamedH2492 a dreamH2472; and, lo, a cake of barleyH8184 breadH3899 tumbled into the campH4264 of MidianH4080, and cameH935 unto the tentH168, and smote it so that it fellH5307, and turnedH2015 it upside downH5221, so that the tentH168 lay flat. 14And his fellow answered and saidH559, This is nothingH369 else save the swordH2719 of GideonH1439 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101, a manH376 of IsraelH3478: into his handH3027 GodH430 hath delivered MidianH4080, and all the host.
15And it wasH1961 so, when GideonH1439 heardH8085 the telling of the dreamH2472, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped; and he returnedH7725 into the campH4264 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559, AriseH6965; for Jehovah hath delivered into your handH3027 the host of MidianH4080. 16And he dividedH2673 the threeH7969 hundredH3967 menH376 into threeH7969 companiesH7218, and he putH5414 into the handsH3027 of all of them trumpetsH7782, and emptyH7386 pitchers, with torchesH3940 within the pitchers. 17And he saidH559 unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I comeH935 to the outermost part of the campH4264, it shall beH1961 that, as I do, soH3651 shall ye do. 18WhenH834 I blowH8628 the trumpetH7782, I and all that are with me, then blowH8628 ye the trumpetsH7782 alsoH1571 on every side of all the campH4264, and sayH559, For Jehovah and for GideonH1439.
19So GideonH1439, and the hundredH3967 menH376 that were with him, cameH935 unto the outermost part of the campH4264 in the beginning of the middleH8484 watchH8104, whenH834 they had but newly setH6965 the watchH8104: and they blewH8628 the trumpetsH7782, and brake in pieces the pitchers that were in their handsH3027. 20And the threeH7969 companiesH7218 blewH8628 the trumpetsH7782, and brake the pitchers, and heldH2388 the torchesH3940 in their left handsH3027, and the trumpetsH7782 in their rightH3225 handsH3027 wherewith to blowH8628; and they cried, The swordH2719 of Jehovah and of GideonH1439. 21And they stoodH5975 every manH376 in his placeH8478 roundH5439 about the campH4264; and all the host ranH7323; and they shoutedH7321, and put them to flight. 22And they blewH8628 the threeH7969 hundredH3967 trumpetsH7782, and Jehovah setH7760 every man’sH376 swordH2719 against his fellow, and against all the host; and the host fledH5127 as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-meholahH65, by Tabbath. 23And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were gathered together out of NaphtaliH5321, and out of AsherH836, and out of all ManassehH4519, and pursuedH7291 after MidianH4080.
24And GideonH1439 sentH7971 messengersH4397 throughout all the hill-country of EphraimH669, sayingH559, ComeH3381 down against MidianH4080, and takeH3920 before them the watersH4325, as far as Beth-barahH1012, even the JordanH3383. So all the menH376 of EphraimH669 were gathered together, and tookH3920 the watersH4325 as far as Beth-barahH1012, even the JordanH3383. 25And they tookH3920 the twoH8147 princesH8269 of MidianH4080, OrebH6159 and ZeebH2062; and they slewH2026 OrebH6159 at the rockH6697 of OrebH6159, and ZeebH2062 they slewH2026 at the winepressH3342 of ZeebH2062, and pursuedH7291 MidianH4080: and they broughtH935 the headsH7218 of OrebH6159 and ZeebH2062 to GideonH1439 beyond the JordanH3383.
