Samson Burns Philistine Crops

1But afterH4480 a whileH3117, in the timeH3117 of wheatH2406 harvestH7105, SamsonH8123 visitedH6485 his wifeH802 1with a youngH1423 goatH5795, and saidH559, “I will goH935 inH935 to my wifeH802 in her roomH2315.” But her fatherH1 did not letH5414 him enterH935. 2Her fatherH1 saidH559, “I reallyH559 thoughtH559 that you hatedH8130 her intenselyH8130; so I 2gaveH5414 her to your companionH4828. Is her youngerH6996 sisterH269 not 3moreH4480H2896 beautifulH2896 thanH4480 she? PleaseH4994 let her be yours 4insteadH8478.” 3SamsonH8123 then saidH559 to them, “ThisH6471 timeH6471 I will have beenH5352 blamelessH5352 regardingH4480 the PhilistinesH6430 whenH3588 I doH6213 them harmH7463.” 4And SamsonH8123 wentH1980 and caughtH3920 threeH7969 hundredH3967 jackalsH7776, and tookH3947 torchesH3940, and turnedH6437 the jackals tailH2180 to tailH2180 and putH7760 oneH259 torchH3940 in the middleH8432 betweenH996 twoH8147 tailsH2180. 5When he had setH1197 fireH784 to the torchesH3940, he releasedH7971 the jackals into the standingH7054 grainH7054 of the PhilistinesH6430 and setH1197 fireH1197 to bothH4480 the bundledH1430 heapsH1430 and the standingH7054 grainH7054, alongH5704 with the vineyardsH3754 and oliveH2132 grovesH2132. 6Then the PhilistinesH6430 saidH559, “WhoH4310 didH6213 thisH2088?” And some saidH559, “SamsonH8123, the son-in-lawH2860 of the TimniteH8554, becauseH3588 5he tookH3947 his wifeH802 and gaveH5414 her to his companionH4828.” So the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 upH5927 and 6burnedH8313 her and her fatherH1 to death with fireH784. 7Then SamsonH8123 saidH559 to them, “IfH518 thisH2088 is how you actH6213, I will certainlyH3588H518 takeH5358 revengeH5358 on you, and only afterH310 that will I stopH2308.” 8So he struckH5221 them 7ruthlesslyH7785H5921H3409 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347; and afterward he wentH3381 downH3381 and livedH3427 in the cleftH5585 of the rockH5553 of EtamH5862.

9Then the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 upH5927 and campedH2583 in JudahH3063, and spreadH6566 outH6566 in LehiH3896. 10So the menH376 of JudahH3063 saidH559, “WhyH4100 have you comeH5927 upH5927 againstH5921 us?” And they saidH559, “We have comeH5927 upH5927 to bindH631 SamsonH8123 in order to doH6213 to him as he didH6213 to us.” 11Then threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to the cleftH5585 of the rockH5553 of EtamH5862 and saidH559 to SamsonH8123, “Do you not knowH3045 8that the PhilistinesH6430 are rulersH4910 over us? WhatH4100 then is thisH2088 that you have doneH6213 to us?” And he saidH559 to them, “JustH3512 asH3512 they didH6213 to me, soH3651 I have doneH6213 to them.” 12Then they saidH559 to him, “We have comeH3381 downH3381 to bindH631 you so that we may handH5414H3027 you overH5414 to the PhilistinesH6430.” And SamsonH8123 saidH559 to them, “SwearH7650 to me that you will not 9killH6293 me.” 13So they saidH559 to 10him, “NoH3808, but we will bindH631 you tightlyH631 and giveH5414 you into their handsH3027; but we certainlyH4191 will not killH4191 you.” Then they boundH631 him with twoH8147 newH2319 ropesH5688, and broughtH5927 him upH5927 from the rockH5553.

14When he cameH935 to LehiH3896, the PhilistinesH6430 shoutedH7321 as they metH7122 him. And 11the SpiritH7307 of the LordH3068 rushedH6743 uponH5921 him so that the ropesH5688 that were on his armsH2220 were like flaxH6593 that has burnedH1197 with fireH784, and his restraintsH612 12droppedH4549 from his handsH3027. 15Then he foundH4672 a freshH2961 jawboneH3895 of a donkeyH2543, so he reachedH7971 outH7971 with his handH3027 and tookH3947 it, and 13killedH5221 14a thousandH505 menH376 with it. 16And SamsonH8123 saidH559, “With the jawboneH3895 of a donkeyH2543, 15HeapsH2565 upon heapsH2565, With the jawboneH3895 of a donkeyH2543 I have 16killedH5221 a thousandH505 menH376.” 17When he had finishedH3615 speakingH1696, he threwH7993 the jawboneH3895 from his handH3027; and he namedH7121 that placeH4725 17Ramath-lehiH7437. 18Then he becameH6770 veryH3966 thirstyH6770, and he 18calledH7121 to the LordH3068 and saidH559, “You have 19handedH5414H3027 thisH2088 greatH1419 20victoryH8668 overH5414 to Your servantH5650, and nowH6258 21am I to dieH4191 of thirstH6772 22and fallH5307 into the handsH3027 of the uncircumcisedH6189?” 19But GodH430 splitH1234 the hollowH4388 placeH4388 that is in LehiH3896 so that waterH4325 cameH3318 outH3318 of it. When he drankH8354, 23his 24strengthH7307 returnedH7725 and he revivedH2421. ThereforeH5921H3651 he namedH7121H8034 it 25En-hakkoreH5875, whichH834 is in LehiH3896 to thisH2088 dayH3117. 20So 26he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 for twentyH6242 yearsH8141 in 27the daysH3117 of the PhilistinesH6430.
