2 Samuel 23

1TheseH428 are the lastH314 wordsH1697 of DavidH1732:

“The oracleH5002 of DavidH1732 sonH1121 of JesseH3448,the oracleH5002 of the manH1397 raisedH6965 on highH5920,the one anointedH4899 by the GodH430 of JacobH3290,and the sweetH5273 psalmistH2158 of IsraelH3478:1
2The SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 spoke throughH1696 me;His wordH4405 was onH5921 my tongueH3956.3The GodH430 of IsraelH3478 spokeH559;the RockH6697 of IsraelH3478 saidH1696 to me,‘He who rulesH4910 the peopleH120 with justiceH6662,who rulesH4910 in the fearH3374 of GodH430,4is like the lightH216 of the morningH1242at sunriseH8121H2224 of a cloudlessH3808H5645 dawnH1242,the glisteningH5051 after the rainH4306on the sprouting grassH1877 of the earthH776.’
5Is notH3808 my houseH1004 rightH3651 withH5973 GodH410?ForH3588 He has establishedH7760 with mean everlastingH5769 covenantH1285,orderedH6186 and securedH8104H3588 in every partH3605.Will He notH3808 bring aboutH6779 my fullH3605 salvationH3468and my everyH3605 desireH2656H3588?
6But the worthlessH1100 are allH3605 like thornsH6975 raked asideH5074,forH3588 they can neverH3808 be gatheredH3947 by handH3027.7The manH376 who touchesH5060 them must be armedH4390 with ironH1270or with the shaftH6086 of a spearH2595.The fireH784 burns them to ashesH8313in the placeH7675 where they lie.”

David’s Mighty Men

(1 Chronicles 11:10–47)

8TheseH428 are the namesH8034 of David’sH1732 mighty menH1368:

Josheb-basshebethH3429 the TahchemoniteH84612 was chiefH7218 of the ThreeH7991.3 HeH1931 wieldedH5722 his spearH6112 againstH59214 eightH8083 hundredH3967 men, whom he killedH2491 at oneH259 timeH6471. 9Next in command wasH310 EleazarH499 sonH1121 of DodoH17345 the AhohiteH1121H266. As one of the threeH7969 mighty menH1368, he went withH5973 DavidH1732 to tauntH2778 the PhilistinesH6430 who had gatheredH622 for battleH4421 at Pas-dammim. The menH376 of IsraelH3478 retreatedH5927, 10but EleazarH1931 stood his groundH6965 and struckH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 untilH5704H3588 his handH3027 grew wearyH3021 and stuckH1692H3027 toH413 his swordH2719. The LORDH3068 brought aboutH6213 a greatH1419 victoryH8668 thatH1931 dayH3117. Then the troopsH5971 returnedH7725 to himH310, but onlyH389 to plunder the deadH6584. 11And after himH310 was ShammahH8037 sonH1121 of AgeeH89 the HarariteH2043. When the PhilistinesH6430 had banded togetherH622 nearH3896 a fieldH2513H7704 full ofH4392 lentilsH5742, Israel’s troopsH5971 fledH5127 fromH6440 them. 12But Shammah took his standH3320 in the middleH8432 of the fieldH2513, defended itH5337, and struck downH5221 the PhilistinesH6430. So the LORDH3068 brought aboutH6213 a greatH1419 victoryH8668.

13AtH413 harvest timeH7105, threeH7970 of the thirtyH7970 chief menH7218 went downH3381H935 toH413 DavidH1732 atH413 the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725, while a companyH2416 of PhilistinesH6430 was encampedH2583 in the ValleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 14At that timeH227 DavidH1732 was in the strongholdH4686, and the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430H227 was at BethlehemH1035. 15DavidH1732 longedH183 for water and saidH559, “Oh, that someoneH4310 would get me a drinkH8248 of waterH4325 from the wellH877 near the gateH8179 of BethlehemH1035!”

16So the threeH7969 mighty menH1368 brokeH1234 through the PhilistineH6430 campH4264, drewH7579 waterH4325 from the wellH877 near the gateH8179H5375 of BethlehemH1035, and broughtH935 it back toH413 DavidH1732. But he refusedH3808H14 to drink itH8354; instead, he poured it outH5258 to the LORDH3068, 17sayingH559, “Far be itH2486 from me, O LORDH3068, to doH6213 thisH2063! Is this not the bloodH1818 of the menH582H1980 who risked their livesH5315?” So he refusedH3808H14 to drink itH8354.

SuchH428 were the exploitsH6213 of the threeH7969 mighty menH1368.

18Now AbishaiH52, the brotherH251 of JoabH3097 and sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, was chiefH7218 of the ThreeH7992,6 and heH1931 wieldedH5782 his spearH2595 againstH5921 threeH7969 hundredH3967 men, killedH2491 them, and won a nameH8034 along with the ThreeH7969. 19Was he notH3588 more honoredH3513 thanH4480 the ThreeH7969?7 And he becameH1961 their commanderH8269H5704, even though he was notH3808 includedH935 among the ThreeH7969.

20And BenaiahH1141 sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 was a manH1121H376 of valorH24168 from KabzeelH6909, a man of manyH7227 exploitsH6467. He struck downH5221 twoH8147 championsH7399 of MoabH4124, and on a snowyH7950 dayH3117 heH1931 went downH3381 intoH8432 a pitH953 and killedH5221 a lionH738. 21HeH1931 also struck downH5221 an EgyptianH4713, a hugeH4758 manH376. Although the EgyptianH4713 had a spearH2595 in his handH3027, Benaiah went againstH3381 himH413 with a clubH7626, snatchedH1497 the spearH2595 fromH4713 his handH3027, and killedH2026 the Egyptian with his own spearH2595. 22TheseH428 were the exploitsH6213 of BenaiahH1141 sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, who won a nameH8034 along with the threeH7969 mighty menH1368. 23He was most honoredH3513 amongH4480 the ThirtyH7970, but he did notH3808 becomeH935 one of the ThreeH7969. And DavidH1732 appointed himH7760 overH413 his guardH4928.

24Now these were members of the ThirtyH7970:10
