21An opportuneεὐκαίρουeukairouG2121dayἡμέραςhēmerasG2250cameγενομένηςgenomenēsG1096whenὅτεhoteG3753HerodἩρῴδηςHērōdēsG2264,on his birthdayγενεσίοιςgenesioisG1077,heldἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160a banquetδεῖπνονdeipnonG1173for his noblesμεγιστᾶσινmegistasinG3175and militaryG5506commandersG5506,and the leadingπρώτοιςprōtoisG4413peopleG4413of GalileeΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasG1056;

22and when the daughterθυγατρὸςthugatrosG2364ofHerodiasἩρῳδιάδοςHērōdiadosG2266herselfαὐτοῦautouG846cameG1525inG1525and dancedὀρχησαμένηςorchēsamenēsG3738,she pleasedἤρεσενēresenG700HerodἩρῴδῃHērōdēG2264andhis dinnerG4873guestsG4873;and the kingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935saidG3004to the girlκορασίῳ·korasiōG2877, “AskαἴτησόνaitēsonG154me for whateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739 G1437you wantθέλῃς,thelēsG2309,and I will giveδώσωdōsōG1325it to you.”

23And he sworeὤμοσενōmosenG3660to her, “Whateverὅ ἐάνho eanG3739 G1437you askαἰτήσῃςaitēsēsG154of me, I will giveδώσωdōsōG1325it to you, up tohalfἡμίσουςhēmisousG2255of my kingdomβασιλείαςbasileiasG932.”

24And she wentG1831outG1831and saidG3004to her motherμητρὶmētriG3384, “WhatτίtiG5101shall I askαἰτήσωμαι;aitēsōmaiG154for?” And she saidG3004, “The headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776of JohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491the Baptistβαπτίζοντος.baptizontosG907.”

25ImmediatelyG2117she cameG1525inG1525a hurryσπουδῆςspoudēsG4710to the kingβασιλέαbasileaG935and askedᾐτήσατοētēsatoG154,sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “I wantθέλωthelōG2309you to giveδῷςdōsG1325me at onceG1824the headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776of JohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491the Baptistβαπτιστοῦ.baptistouG910on a platterπίνακιpinakiG4094.”

26And although the kingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935was veryG4036sorryG4036,becauseδιὰdiaG1223of his oathsὅρκουςhorkousG3727andhis dinnerG345guestsG345,he was unwillingοὐκ ἠθέλησενouk ēthelēsenG3756 G2309to refuseἀθετῆσαιathetēsaiG114her.

27ImmediatelyG2117the kingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935sentἀποστείλαςaposteilasG649an executionerσπεκουλάτοραspekoulatoraG4688and commandedἐπέταξενepetaxenG2004himto bringἐνέγκαιenegkaiG5342backhis headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776.And he wentἀπελθὼνapelthōnG565and beheadedἀπεκεφάλισενapekephalisenG607him in the prisonφυλακῇphulakēaG5438,

28and broughtἤνεγκενēnegkenG5342his headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776on a platterπίνακιpinakiG4094,and gaveἔδωκενedōkenG1325it to the girlκορασίῳ,korasiōG2877;and the girlκοράσιονkorasionG2877gaveἔδωκενedōkenG1325it to her motherμητρὶmētriG3384.

29When his disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191about this,they cameἦλθονēlthonG2064and carriedG142awayG142his bodyπτῶμαptōmaG4430,and laidἔθηκανethēkanG5087it in a tombμνημείῳ.¶mnēmeiōG3419.
