2And theleadersפִּנּ֣וֹתpi.NotH6438of allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971,allכֹּ֚לkolH3605the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֣יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,tookH3320their standH3320in the assemblyבִּקְהַ֖לbik.HalH6951of the peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,fourאַרְבַּ֨ע'ar.Ba'H702hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967thousandאֶ֛לֶף'E.lefH505footרַגְלִ֖יrag.LiH7273soldiersאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376who drewשֹׁ֥לֵֽףSho.lefH8025the swordחָֽרֶב׃ פCha.revH2719.

3(Now the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֔ןvin.ya.MinH1144heardוַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙vai.yish.me.'UH8085that the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478had goneH5927upH5927to Mizpahהַמִּצְפָּ֑הha.mitz.PahH4709.)And the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Tellדַּבְּר֕וּda.be.RuH1696us,howH351did thisH2088wickednessH7463takeH1961placeH1961?”

4So the Leviteהַלֵּוִ֗יha.le.ViH3881,the husbandH376of the womanהָאִשָּׁ֥הha.'i.ShahH802who was murderedהַנִּרְצָחָ֖הha.nir.tza.ChahH7523,answeredוַיַּ֜עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “I cameבָּ֛אתִיBa.tiH935with my concubineוּפִֽילַגְשִׁ֖יu.fi.lag.ShiH6370to spendלָלֽוּן׃la.LunH3885theH3885nightH3885at Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֙תָה֙ha.giv.'A.tahH1390whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834belongs to Benjaminלְבִנְיָמִ֔ןle.vin.ya.MinH1144.

5But thecitizensבַּעֲלֵ֣יba.'a.LeiH1167of Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֔הha.giv.'AhH1390roseH6965upH6965againstעָלַי֙'a.LaiH5921me and surroundedוַיָּסֹ֧בּוּvai.ya.So.buH5437the houseהַבַּ֖יִתha.Ba.yitH1004at nightלָ֑יְלָהLa.ye.lahH3915,threateningעָלַ֛י'a.LaiH5921me. They intendedדִּמּ֣וּdi.MuH1819to killלַהֲרֹ֔גla.ha.RogH2026me; instead, theyrapedעִנּ֖וּ'i.NuH6031my concubineפִּילַגְשִׁ֥יpi.lag.ShiH6370so that she diedוַתָּמֹֽת׃va.ta.MotH4191.

6And ItookH270holdוָֽאֹחֵ֤זva.'o.ChezH270of my concubineבְּפִֽילַגְשִׁי֙be.fi.lag.ShiH6370and cutוָֽאֲנַתְּחֶ֔הָva.'a.na.te.Che.haH5408her inH5408piecesH5408,and sentוָֽאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔הָva.'a.sha.le.Che.haH7971her throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the landשְׂדֵ֖הse.DehH7704of Israel’sיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478inheritanceנַחֲלַ֣תna.cha.LatH5159; forthey have committedעָשׂ֛וּ'a.SuH6213an outrageousH2154sinH2154and vileH5039actH5039in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

7Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,allכֻלְּכֶ֖םkhu.le.KhemH3605you sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,giveהָב֥וּha.VuH3051yourresponseדָּבָ֥רda.VarH1697and adviceוְעֵצָ֖הve.'e.TzahH6098hereהֲלֹֽם׃ha.LomH1988.”

8Then allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971roseH6965upH6965as oneאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259personכְּאִ֥ישׁke.'IshH376,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Not oneאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of us will goנֵלֵךְ֙ne.leKhH1980to his tentלְאָהֳל֔וֹle.'o.ho.LoH168,norH3808will anyאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of us goנָס֖וּרna.SurH5493homeלְבֵיתֽוֹ׃le.vei.ToH1004.

9But nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258thisזֶ֣הzehH2088is the thingהַדָּבָ֔רha.da.VarH1697whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֖הna.'a.SehH6213to Gibeahלַגִּבְעָ֑הla.giv.'AhH1390; we will go upagainstעָלֶ֖יהָ'a.Lei.haH5921it by lotבְּגוֹרָֽל׃be.go.RalH1486.

10And we will takeוְלָקַ֣חְנוּve.la.Kach.nuH3947tenעֲשָׂרָה֩'a.sa.RahH6235menH376out of a hundredלַמֵּאָ֜הla.me.'AhH3967throughoutלְכֹ֣ל׀le.KholH3605the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֣יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and a hundredוּמֵאָ֤הu.me.'AhH3967out of a thousandלָאֶ֙לֶף֙la.'E.lefH505,and a thousandוְאֶ֣לֶףve.'E.lefH505out of tenH6235thousandH505tosupplyלָקַ֥חַתla.Ka.chatH3947provisionsצֵדָ֖הtze.DahH6720for the peopleלָעָ֑םla.'AmH5971,so that when they comeלְבוֹאָם֙le.vo.'AmH935toGibeahH1390of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֔ןbin.ya.MinH1144, they maypunishלַעֲשׂ֗וֹתla.'a.SotH6213themfor allכְּכָל־ke.khol-H3605the vileH5039sinH5039that they have committedעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”

11So allכָּל־kol-H3605the menאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478were gatheredוַיֵּֽאָסֵ֞ףvai.ye.'a.SefH622againstאֶל־'el-H413the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,unitedחֲבֵרִֽים׃ פcha.ve.RimH2270as oneאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259manכְּאִ֥ישׁke.'IshH376.

12Then the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֤יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַֽיִּשְׁלְח֞וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971menH376through the entireבְּכָל־be.kholH3605tribeשִׁבְטֵ֥יshiv.TeiH7626of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֖ןvin.ya.MinH1144,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Whatמָ֚הmahH4100is thisH2088wickednessH7463that has takenH1961placeH1961among you?

13Nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258then, turnH5414overH5414the menH376, theworthlessבְלִיַּ֜עַלve.li.Ya.'alH1100menבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834are in Gibeahבַּגִּבְעָה֙ba.giv.'AhH1390,so that we may putוּנְמִיתֵ֔םu.ne.mi.TemH4191them toH4191deathH4191andremoveוּנְבַעֲרָ֥הu.ne.va.'a.RahH1197thiswickednessH7463from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”But the sonsאָבוּ֙בְּנֵ֣י'a.Vu'a.Vu//be.neibe.neiH1121of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֔ןbin.ya.MinH1144wouldאָבוּ֙בְּנֵ֣י'a.Vu'a.Vu//be.neibe.neiH14not listenלִשְׁמֹ֕עַlish.Mo.a'H8085to the voiceבְּק֖וֹלbe.KolH6963of their brothersאֲחֵיהֶ֥ם'a.chei.HemH251,the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

14Instead, the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֛ןvin.ya.MinH1144gatheredוַיֵּאָסְפ֧וּvai.ye.'a.se.FuH622from the citiesהֶעָרִ֖יםhe.'a.RimH5892to Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֑תָהha.giv.'A.tahH1390,to goלָצֵ֥אתla.TzetH3318outH3318to battleלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421againstעִם־'im-H5973the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

18Now the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478setH6965outH6965,wentH5927upH5927to BethelH1008, andinquiredוַיִּשְׁאֲל֣וּvai.yish.'a.LuH7592of Godבֵאלֹהִים֒ve.lo.HimH430and saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Whoמִ֚יmiH4310shall goH5927upH5927firstבַתְּחִלָּ֔הva.te.chi.LahH8462for us to battleלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421againstעִם־'im-H5973the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֑ןvin.ya.MinH1144?”Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Judahיְהוּדָ֥הye.hu.DahH3063shall go upfirstבַתְּחִלָּֽה׃va.te.chi.LahH8462.”
