1ThenJerubbaalיְרֻבַּ֜עַלye.ru.Ba.'alH3378(that is, Gideonגִדְע֗וֹןgid.'onH1439)and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were with him gotH7925upH7925earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨םvai.yash.KemH7925,and campedוַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּvai.ya.cha.NuH2583besideעַל־'al-H5921the springH5871of HarodH2730;and the campוּמַחֲנֵ֤הu.ma.cha.NehH4264of Midianמִדְיָן֙mid.YanH4080was on the northH6828sideH6828ofthem by the hillמִגִּבְעַ֥תmi.giv.'AtH1389ofMorehהַמּוֹרֶ֖הha.mo.RehH4176in the valleyבָּעֵֽמֶק׃ba.'E.mekH6010.

2And the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gideonגִּדְע֔וֹןgid.'onH1439, “The peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834are with you are tooH4480manyרַ֗בRavH7227for Me to handבְּיָדָ֑םbe.ya.DamH5414 H3027Midianמִדְיָ֖ןmid.YanH4080overH5414to them,otherwiseפֶּן־pen-H6435Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478wouldbecomeH6286boastfulH6286,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘My ownpowerיָדִ֖יya.DiH3027has savedהוֹשִׁ֥יעָהho.Shi.'ahH3467me.’

3Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258therefore comeנָ֜אna'H4994,proclaimקְרָ֨אke.Ra'H7121in the hearingבְּאָזְנֵ֤יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241of the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Whoeverמִֽי־mi-H4310isH3372afraidH3372and worriedוְחָרֵ֔דve.cha.RedH2730,is to returnיָשֹׁ֥בya.ShoH7725and leaveוְיִצְפֹּ֖ר מִן־ve.yitz.Por min-H6852 H4480Mountמֵהַ֣רme.HarH2022Gileadהַגִּלְעָ֑דha.gil.'AdH1568.’”So twenty-twoעֶשְׂרִ֤ים וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙'es.Rim u.she.Na.yimH6242 H8147thousandאֶ֔לֶף'E.lefH505from the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971returnedוַיָּ֣שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725,but tenוַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶתva.'a.Se.retH6235thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505remainedנִשְׁאָֽרוּ׃ סnish.'A.ruH7604.

4Then the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gideonגִּדְע֗וֹןgid.'onH1439, “The peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971are stillעוֹד֮'OdH5750too manyרָב֒ravH7227;bringהוֹרֵ֤דho.RedH3381them downH3381to the waterהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325and I will testוְאֶצְרְפֶ֥נּוּve.'etz.re.Fe.nuH6884them for you thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033.So it shall be that he of whomאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834I sayאֹמַ֨ר'o.MarH559to you, ‘ThisH2088oneזֶ֣ה׀zehH2088shall goיֵלֵ֣ךְye.LekhH1980with you,’ he shall goיֵלֵ֣ךְye.LekhH1980with you; but everyoneוְכֹ֨לve.KholH3605of whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I sayאֹמַ֜ר'o.MarH559to you, ‘ThisH2088oneזֶ֚הzehH2088shall not goיֵלֵ֣ךְye.LekhH1980with you,’ he shall not goיֵלֵֽךְ׃ye.LekhH1980.”

5So he broughtH3381the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971downוַיּ֥וֹרֶדvai.Yo.redH3381to the waterהַמָּ֑יִם סha.Ma.yimH4325.Then the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gideonגִּדְע֗וֹןgid.'onH1439, “You shall putתַּצִּ֤יגta.TzigH3322everyoneכֹּ֣לkolH3605whoH834lapsיָלֹק֩ya.LokH3952the waterהַמַּ֜יִםha.Ma.yimH4325with his tongueבִּלְשׁוֹנ֨וֹbil.sho.NoH3956as a dogהַכֶּ֗לֶבha.Ke.levH3611lapsיָלֹ֣קya.LokH3952in oneH905groupH905,and everyoneוְכֹ֛לve.KholH3605whoH834kneelsבִּרְכָּ֖יוbir.KavH1290 H3766downיִכְרַ֥עyikh.Ra'H3766to drinkלִשְׁתּֽוֹת׃lish.TotH8354in another.”

6Now the numberמִסְפַּ֞רmis.ParH4557of those who lappedהַֽמֲלַקְקִ֤יםha.ma.la.KimH3952,putting their handבְּיָדָם֙be.ya.DamH3027to their mouthפִּיהֶ֔םpi.HemH6310,was threeשְׁלֹ֥שׁshe.LoshH7969hundredמֵא֖וֹתme.'otH3967menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376;but allוְכֹל֙ve.KholH3605the restיֶ֣תֶרYe.terH3499of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971kneeledבִּרְכֵיהֶ֖םbir.khei.HemH3766 H1290downכָּרְע֥וּka.re.'UH3766to drinkלִשְׁתּ֥וֹתlish.TotH8354waterמָֽיִם׃ סMa.yimH4325.

7And the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Gideonגִּדְע֗וֹןgid.'onH1439, “I will saveאוֹשִׁ֣יעַ'o.Shi.a'H3467youwith the threeבִּשְׁלֹשׁ֩bish.LoshH7969hundredמֵא֨וֹתme.'otH3967menH376who lappedהַֽמֲלַקְקִים֙ha.ma.la.KimH3952,and will handבְּיָדֶ֑ךָbe.ya.De.khaH5414 H3027the Midianitesמִדְיָ֖ןmid.YanH4080overH5414to you; so have allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the otherpeopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971goיֵלְכ֖וּye.le.KhuH1980,eachH376manH376to hishomeלִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃lim.ko.MoH4725.”

8Sothe three hundred men tookוַיִּקְח֣וּvai.yik.ChuH3947the people’sהָעָ֨םha.'AmH5971provisionsצֵדָה֩tze.DahH6720and their trumpetsשׁוֹפְרֹֽתֵיהֶ֗םshof.ro.tei.HemH7782in their handsבְּיָדָ֜םbe.ya.DamH3027. AndGideon dismissedשִׁלַּח֙shi.LachH7971allכָּל־kol-H3605the othermenאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478,eachאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376to his tentלְאֹֽהָלָ֔יוle.'o.ha.LavH168,but retainedהֶֽחֱזִ֑יקhe.che.ZikH2388the threeוּבִשְׁלֹשׁ־u.vish.losh-H7969hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967menהָאִ֖ישׁha.'IshH376;and the campוּמַחֲנֵ֣הu.ma.cha.NehH4264of Midianמִדְיָ֔ןmid.YanH4080was belowמִתַּ֥חַתmi.Ta.chatH4480 H8478him in the valleyבָּעֵֽמֶק׃ פba.'E.mekH6010.

9Now on the sameהַה֔וּאha.Hu'H1931nightבַּלַּ֣יְלָהba.Lay.lahH3915it cameH1961aboutH1961that the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Ariseק֖וּםkumH6965,goרֵ֣דredH3381downH3381against the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הba.ma.cha.NehH4264,for I have handedבְּיָדֶֽךָ׃be.ya.De.khaH5414 H3027it overH5414to you.

10But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you are afraidH3372to goלָרֶ֑דֶתla.Re.detH3381downH3381,goרֵ֥דredH3381with Purahוּפֻרָ֥הu.fu.RahH6513your servantנַעַרְךָ֖na.'ar.KhaH5288downH3381to the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ha.ma.cha.NehH4264,

11so that you will hearוְשָֽׁמַעְתָּ֙ve.sha.ma'.TaH8085whatמַה־mah-H4100they sayיְדַבֵּ֔רוּye.da.Be.ruH1696; andafterwardוְאַחַר֙ve.'a.CharH310you will haveH2388the courageיָדֶ֔יךָya.Dei.khaH3027 H2388to goוְיָרַדְתָּ֖ve.ya.rad.TaH3381downH3381against the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הba.ma.cha.NehH4264.”So he wentH3381downוַיֵּ֤רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381with Purahוּפֻרָ֣הu.fu.RahH6513his servantנַעֲר֔וֹna.'a.RoH5288to theoutpostsקְצֵ֥הke.TzehH7097of the armyהַחֲמֻשִׁ֖יםha.cha.mu.ShimH2571that was in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ba.ma.cha.NehH4264.

12Now the Midianitesוּמִדְיָ֨ןu.mid.YanH4080,the Amalekitesוַעֲמָלֵ֤קva.'a.ma.LekH6002,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605thepeopleבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of the eastקֶ֙דֶם֙ke.demH6924were lyingנֹפְלִ֣יםno.fe.LimH5307in the valleyבָּעֵ֔מֶקba.'E.mekH6010as numerousלָרֹ֑בla.RoH7230as locustsכָּאַרְבֶּ֖הka.'ar.BehH697;and their camelsוְלִגְמַלֵּיהֶם֙ve.lig.ma.lei.HemH1581were withoutאֵ֣ין'einH369numberמִסְפָּ֔רmis.ParH4557,as numerousלָרֹֽב׃la.RoH7230as the sandכַּח֛וֹלka.CholH2344on the seashoreשְׂפַ֥ת הַיָּ֖םse.Fat hai.YamH3220 H8193.

13When Gideonגִדְע֔וֹןgid.'onH1439cameוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935,beholdH2009,a manאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376was relatingמְסַפֵּ֥רme.sa.PerH5608a dreamחֲל֑וֹםcha.LomH2472to his friendלְרֵעֵ֖הוּle.re.'E.huH7453.And he saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “BeholdH2009, Ihadחָלַ֗מְתִּיcha.Lam.tiH2492a dreamחֲל֣וֹםcha.LomH2472;a loafצְלִ֜ילtze.lolH6742of barleyשְׂעֹרִים֙se.'o.RimH8184breadלֶ֤חֶםLe.chemH3899was tumblingמִתְהַפֵּךְ֙mit.ha.peKhH2015into the campבְּמַחֲנֵ֣הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of Midianמִדְיָ֔ןmid.YanH4080,and it cameוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935to the tentהָ֠אֹהֶלHa.'o.helH168and struckוַיַּכֵּ֧הוּvai.ya.Ke.huH5221it so that it fellוַיִּפֹּ֛לvai.yi.PolH5307,and turnedוַיַּהַפְכֵ֥הוּvai.ya.haf.Khe.huH2015itupsideH4605downH4605so that the tentהָאֹֽהֶל׃ha.'O.helH168collapsedוְנָפַ֥לve.na.FalH5307.”

14And his friendרֵעֵ֤הוּre.'E.huH7453repliedוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “ThisH2088is nothingאֵ֣ין'einH369otherH1115 H518thanH1115 H518the swordחֶ֛רֶבChe.revH2719of Gideonגִּדְע֥וֹןgid.'onH1439the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of JoashH3060,a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430hashandedבְּיָד֔וֹbe.ya.DoH5414 H3027overH5414to him Midianמִדְיָ֖ןmid.YanH4080and allכָּל־kol-H3605the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ פHa.ma.cha.NehH4264.”

15When Gideonגִּדְע֜וֹןgid.'onH1439heardכִשְׁמֹ֨עַkhish.Mo.a'H8085the accountמִסְפַּ֧רmis.ParH4557of the dreamהַחֲל֛וֹםha.cha.LomH2472and its interpretationשִׁבְר֖וֹshiv.RoH7667,he bowedH2331inH2331worshipH2331.Then he returnedוַיָּ֙שָׁב֙vai.Ya.shovH7725to the campמַחֲנֵ֣הma.cha.NehH4264of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Ariseק֔וּמוּKu.muH6965,for the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068has handedבְּיֶדְכֶ֖םbe.yed.KhemH5414 H3027overH5414to you the campמַחֲנֵ֥הma.cha.NehH4264of Midianמִדְיָֽן׃mid.YanH4080!”

16And he dividedוַיַּ֛חַץvai.Ya.chatzH2673the threeשְׁלֹשׁ־she.losh-H7969hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967menהָאִ֖ישׁha.'IshH376into threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֣הshe.lo.ShahH7969unitsרָאשִׁ֑יםra.ShimH7218,and he putוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414trumpetsשׁוֹפָר֤וֹתsho.fa.RotH7782and emptyרֵקִ֔יםre.KimH7386pitchersוְכַדִּ֣יםve.kha.DimH3537into the handsבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of allכֻּלָּם֙ku.LamH3605of them, with torchesוְלַפִּדִ֖יםve.la.pi.DimH3940insideבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the pitchersהַכַּדִּֽים׃ha.ka.DimH3537.

17Then he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Lookתִרְא֖וּtir.'UH7200at me and doתַּעֲשׂ֑וּta.'a.SuH6213likewiseH3651.And beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,when I comeבָא֙va'H935to the outskirtsבִּקְצֵ֣הbik.TzehH7097of the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,doאֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה'e.'e.SehH6213as I doתַּעֲשֽׂוּן׃ta.'a.SunH6213.

18When I and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834are with me blowוְתָקַעְתִּי֙ve.ta.ka'.TiH8628the trumpetבַּשּׁוֹפָ֔רba.sho.FarH7782,then you alsoגַּם־gam-H1571blowוּתְקַעְתֶּ֨םu.te.ka'.TemH8628the trumpetsבַּשּׁוֹפָר֜וֹתba.sho.fa.RotH7782aroundסְבִיבוֹת֙se.vi.VotH5439the entireכָּל־kol-H3605campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264and sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖םva.'a.mar.TemH559, ‘For the Lordלַיהוָ֥הla.Yah.wehH3068and for Gideonוּלְגִדְעֽוֹן׃ פu.le.gid.'onH1439!’”

19So Gideonגִ֠דְעוֹןGid.'onH1439and the hundredוּמֵאָה־u.me.'ah-H3967menאִ֨ישׁ'ishH376whoH834were with him cameוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935to the outskirtsבִּקְצֵ֣הbik.TzehH7097of the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗הha.ma.cha.NehH4264at the beginningרֹ֚אשׁroshH7218of the middleהַתִּֽיכוֹנָ֔הha.ti.kho.NahH8484nightH821watchהָאַשְׁמֹ֣רֶתha.'ash.Mo.retH821,whenH389they had justH389postedH6965the watchהַשֹּֽׁמְרִ֑יםha.sho.me.RimH8104;and they blewוַֽיִּתְקְעוּ֙vai.yit.ke.'UH8628the trumpetsבַּשּׁ֣וֹפָר֔וֹתba.Sho.fa.RotH7782and smashedוְנָפ֥וֹץve.na.FotzH5310the pitchersהַכַּדִּ֖יםha.ka.DimH3537that were in their handsבְּיָדָֽם׃be.ya.DamH3027.

20When the threeשְׁלֹ֨שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969unitsהָרָאשִׁ֥יםha.ra.ShimH7218blewוַֽ֠יִּתְקְעוּVai.yit.ke.'uH8628the trumpetsבַּשּֽׁוֹפָרוֹת֮ba.sho.fa.rOtH7782and brokeוַיִּשְׁבְּר֣וּvai.yish.be.RuH7665the pitchersהַכַּדִּים֒ha.ka.DimH3537,they heldוַיַּחֲזִ֤יקוּvai.ya.cha.Zi.kuH2388the torchesבַּלַּפִּדִ֔יםba.la.pi.DimH3940in their leftשְׂמאוֹלָם֙se.m.'o.LamH8040handsבְיַד־ve.yad-H3027and the trumpetsהַשּׁוֹפָר֖וֹתha.sho.fa.RotH7782in their rightיְמִינָ֔םye.mi.NamH3225handsוּבְיַ֨ד־u.ve.Yad-H3027for blowingלִתְק֑וֹעַlit.Ko.a'H8628,and shoutedוַֽיִּקְרְא֔וּvai.yik.re.'UH7121, “A swordחֶ֥רֶבChe.revH2719for the Lordלַֽיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068and for Gideonוּלְגִדְעֽוֹן׃u.le.gid.'onH1439!”

21And eachאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376stoodוַיַּֽעַמְדוּ֙vai.ya.'am.DuH5975inH8478his placeתַּחְתָּ֔יוtach.TavH8478aroundסָבִ֖יבsa.VivH5439the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הla.ma.cha.NehH4264; andallכָּל־kol-H3605thearmyהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֛הha.ma.cha.NehH4264ranוַיָּ֧רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323,cryingH7321outH7321as they fledוַיָּנֽוּסוּ׃vai.ya.ni.suH5127.

23And the menאִֽישׁ־'ish-H376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478were summonedוַיִּצָּעֵ֧קvai.yi.tza.'EkH6817fromNaphtaliמִנַּפְתָּלִ֥יmi.naf.ta.LiH5321,Asherאָשֵׁ֖ר'a.SherH836,and allכָּל־kol-H3605Manassehמְנַשֶּׁ֑הme.na.ShehH4519,and they pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥יvai.yir.de.Fu 'a.cha.ReiH7291 H310Midianמִדְיָֽן׃mid.YanH4080.
