1Nowthe angelמַלְאַךְ־mal.'akh-H4397of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068cameH5927upH5927from Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֖לha.gil.GalH1537toBochimהַבֹּכִ֑ים פha.bo.KhimH1066.And he saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559, “I broughtH5927you upH5927out of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֗יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714and ledוָאָבִ֤יאva.'a.Vi'H935you into the landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834I have swornנִשְׁבַּ֙עְתִּי֙nish.Ba'.tiH7650to your fathersלַאֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔םla.'a.Vo.tei.KhemH1;and I saidוָאֹמַ֕רva.'o.MarH559, ‘I will neverלֹֽא־ לְעוֹלָֽם׃lo'- le.'o.LamH3808 H5769breakאָפֵ֧ר'a.FerH6565My covenantבְּרִיתִ֛יbe.ri.TiH1285with you,

2and as for you,you shall not makeתִכְרְת֤וּtikh.re.TuH3772a covenantבְרִית֙ve.RitH1285with the inhabitantsלְיֽוֹשְׁבֵי֙le.yo.she.VeiH3427of thisH2088landהָאָ֣רֶץha.'A.retzH776;you shall tearH5422downH5422their altarsמִזְבְּחוֹתֵיהֶ֖םmiz.be.cho.tei.HemH4196.’ But you have notobeyedשְׁמַעְתֶּ֥ם בְּקֹלִ֖יshe.ma'.Tem be.ko.LiH8085 H6963Me; whatמַה־mah-H4100is thisH2088thing thatyou have doneעֲשִׂיתֶֽם׃'a.si.TemH6213?

3Therefore I alsoוְגַ֣םve.GamH1571saidאָמַ֔רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559, ‘I will not driveאֲגָרֵ֥שׁ'a.ga.ReshH1644them outH1644from you; but they willbecomeH1961like thornsin your sidesלְצִדִּ֔יםle.tzi.DimH6654,and their godsוֵאלֹ֣הֵיהֶ֔םve.Lo.hei.HemH430will be a snareלְמוֹקֵֽשׁ׃le.mo.KeshH4170to you.’”

4Now when the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068spokeכְּדַבֵּ֞רke.da.BerH1696theseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֣יםha.de.va.RimH1697to allכָּל־kol-H3605the sonsבְּנֵ֖יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971raisedוַיִּשְׂא֥וּvai.yis.'UH5375their voicesקוֹלָ֖םko.LamH6963and weptוַיִּבְכּֽוּ׃vai.yiv.KuH1058.

5So they namedוַֽיִּקְרְא֛וּ שֵֽׁם־vai.yik.re.'U shem-H7121 H8034that placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH4725Bochimבֹּכִ֑יםbo.KhimH1066;and thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033they sacrificedוַיִּזְבְּחוּ־vai.yiz.be.chu-H2076to the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃ פla.Yah.wehH3068.

6When Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091had dismissedוַיְשַׁלַּ֥חvay.sha.LachH7971the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971,the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478wentוַיֵּלְכ֧וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980,eachאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376one to his inheritanceלְנַחֲלָת֖וֹle.na.cha.la.ToH5159,to takeלָרֶ֥שֶׁתla.Re.shetH3423possessionH3423of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

7The peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971servedוַיַּעַבְד֤וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068allכֹּ֖לkolH3605the daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,and allוְכֹ֣ל׀ve.KholH3605the daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֗יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834survivedהֶאֱרִ֤יכוּ יָמִים֙ אַחֲרֵ֣יhe.'e.Ri.khu ya.Mim 'a.cha.ReiH748 H3117 H310Joshuaיְהוֹשׁ֔וּעַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834had seenרָא֗וּra.'UH7200allכָּל־kol-H3605the greatהַגָּד֔וֹלha.ga.DolH1419workמַעֲשֵׂ֤הma.'a.SehH4639of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had doneעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213for Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

8Then Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091the sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנ֖וּןnunH5126,the servantעֶ֣בֶד'E.vedH5650of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,diedוַיָּ֛מָתvai.Ya.motH4191at the ageבֶּן־ שָׁנִֽים׃ben- sha.NimH1121 H8141of 110מֵאָ֥ה וָעֶ֖שֶׂרme.'Ah va.'E.serH3967 H6235.

9And they buriedוַיִּקְבְּר֤וּvai.yik.be.RuH6912him in the territoryבִּגְב֣וּלbig.VulH1366ofhis inheritanceנַחֲלָת֔וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159in Timnath-heresH8556,in the hillH2022countryH2022of Ephraimאֶפְרָ֑יִם'ef.Ra.yimH669,northמִצְּפ֖וֹןmi.tze.FonH6828of MountH2022Gaashגָּֽעַשׁ׃Ga.'ashH1608.

10Allכָּל־kol-H3605that generationהַדּ֣וֹרha.DorH1755alsoוְגַם֙ve.GamH1571were gatheredנֶאֶסְפ֖וּne.'es.FuH622to their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֑יו'a.vo.TavH1;and anotherאַחֵ֜ר'a.CherH312generationדּ֨וֹרDorH1755roseH6965upH6965afterאַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834did not knowיָֽדְעוּ֙ya.de.'UH3045the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,nor evenוְגַם֙ve.GamH1571the workהַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֔הha.ma.'a.SehH4639whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had doneעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213for Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סle.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

11Then the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478didוַיַּעֲשׂ֧וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213evilהָרַ֖עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֣יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068andservedוַיַּעַבְד֖וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647theBaalsהַבְּעָלִֽים׃ha.be.'a.LimH1168,

12andthey abandonedוַיַּעַזְב֞וּvai.ya.'az.VuH5800the Lordיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֗ם'a.vo.TamH1,who had broughtH3318them outH3318of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַיִם֒mitz.ra.YimH4714,and they followedוַיֵּלְכ֞וּ אַחֲרֵ֣י׀vai.ye.le.Khu 'a.cha.ReiH1980 H310otherאֲחֵרִ֗ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430from the godsמֵאֱלֹהֵ֤יme.'e.lo.HeiH430of the peoplesהָֽעַמִּים֙ha.'a.MimH5971whoאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834were aroundסְבִיב֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔םse.vi.Vo.tei.HemH5439them, and bowedH2331downH2331to them; so they provokedH3707the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068toH3707angerוַיַּכְעִ֖סוּvai.yakh.'I.suH3707.

13They abandonedוַיַּעַזְב֖וּvai.ya.'az.VuH5800the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068andservedוַיַּעַבְד֥וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647Baalלַבַּ֖עַלla.Ba.'alH1168and the Ashtarothוְלָעַשְׁתָּרֽוֹת׃ve.la.'ash.ta.RotH6252.

14Then the angerאַ֤ף'afH639of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,and He handedבְּיַד־be.yad-H5414 H3027them overH5414to plunderersשֹׁסִ֔יםsho.SimH8154,and they plunderedוַיָּשֹׁ֖סּוּvai.ya.Sho.suH8155them; andHe soldוַֽיִּמְכְּרֵ֞םvai.yim.ke.RemH4376them into the handsבְּיַ֤דbe.YadH3027of their enemiesH340aroundמִסָּבִ֔יבmi.sa.VivH5439them,so that they couldיָכְל֣וּya.khe.LuH3201noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֔וֹדodH5750standלַעֲמֹ֖דla.'a.ModH5975againstלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440their enemiesH340.

15Whereverבְּכֹ֣ל׀be.KholH3605 H834they wentיָצְא֗וּya.tze.'UH3318,the handיַד־yad-H3027of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was against them forevilH7463,as the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696andjustH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had swornנִשְׁבַּ֥עnish.Ba'H7650to them, so that they wereH6887severelyמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966distressedH6887.

16Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068raisedH6965upH6965judgesשֹֽׁפְטִ֑יםsho.fe.TimH8199who savedוַיּ֣וֹשִׁיע֔וּםvai.Yo.o.shi.'UmH3467them from the handsמִיַּ֖דmi.YadH3027of those who plunderedשֹׁסֵיהֶֽם׃sho.sei.HemH8154them.

17Yetוְגַ֤םve.GamH1571they did not listenשָׁמֵ֔עוּsha.Me.'uH8085to their judgesשֹֽׁפְטֵיהֶם֙sho.fe.tei.HemH8199, for theycommittedH2181infidelityH2181withאַֽחֲרֵי֙'a.cha.ReiH310otherאֲחֵרִ֔ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430and bowedH2331downH2331to them. They turnedH5493asideסָ֣רוּSa.ruH5493quicklyמַהֵ֗רma.HerH4118from the wayהַדֶּ֜רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870in whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֛ם'a.vo.TamH1had walkedהָלְכ֧וּha.le.KhuH1980in obeyingלִשְׁמֹ֥עַlish.Mo.a'H8085the commandmentsמִצְוֹת־mitz.vot-H4687of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068;they did not doעָ֥שׂוּ'A.suH6213the sameכֵֽן׃KhenH3651as their fathers.

18And whenH3588the Lordיְהוָ֥ה׀Yah.wehH3068raisedH6965upH6965judgesשֹֽׁפְטִים֒sho.fe.TimH8199for them,the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was with the judgeהַשֹּׁפֵ֔טha.sho.FetH8199and savedוְהֽוֹשִׁיעָם֙ve.ho.shi.'AmH3467them from the handמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027of their enemiesH340allכֹּ֖לkolH3605the daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of the judgeהַשּׁוֹפֵ֑טha.sho.FetH8199;for the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068wasmovedH5162toH5162pityH5162by their groaningמִנַּֽאֲקָתָ֔םmi.na.'a.ka.TamH5009becauseמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH4480 H6440of those who tormentedלֹחֲצֵיהֶ֖םlo.cha.tzei.HemH3905and oppressedוְדֹחֲקֵיהֶֽם׃ve.do.cha.kei.HemH1766them.

20So the angerאַ֥ף'afH639of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,and He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Becauseיַעַן֩ אֲשֶׁ֨רya.'An 'a.SherH3282 H834thisהַזֶּ֗הha.ZehH2088nationהַגּ֣וֹיha.GoyH1471has violatedעָבְר֜וּ'a.ve.RuH5674My covenantבְּרִיתִי֙be.ri.TiH1285whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I commandedצִוִּ֣יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680their fathersאֲבוֹתָ֔ם'a.vo.TamH1,and has not listenedשָׁמְע֖וּsha.me.'UH8085to My voiceלְקוֹלִֽי׃le.ko.LiH6963,

21I inH1571turnH1571will noלֹ֣אlo'H3808longerאוֹסִ֔יף'o.SifH3254driveH3423outH3423from them anyאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376of the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֛םha.go.YimH1471whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091leftעָזַ֥ב'a.ZavH5800when he diedוַיָּמֹֽת׃vai.ya.MotH4191,

23So the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068allowedH5117thoseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428nationsהַגּוֹיִ֣םha.go.YimH1471toH5117remainH5117,not drivingH3423them outH3423quicklyמַהֵ֑רma.HerH4118;and He did not handבְּיַד־be.yad-H5414 H3027them overH5414to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ פye.ho.Shu.a'H3091.
