1Now the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to MosesH4872 afterH310 1the deathH4194 of the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of AaronH175, when they had approachedH7126 the presenceH6440 of the LordH3068 and diedH4191. 2The LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872:

“TellH1696 your brotherH251 AaronH175 that he shall not enterH935 2at anyH3605 timeH6256 into the holyH6944 place insideH4480H1004 the veilH6532, beforeH413H6440 the 3mercyH3727 seatH3727 whichH834 is on the arkH727, orH3808 he will dieH4191; for 4I will appearH7200 in the cloudH6051 overH5921 the 5mercyH3727 seatH3727. 3AaronH175 shall enterH935 the holyH6944 place with thisH2088: with a 6bullH6499H1121H1241 for a 7sinH2403 offeringH2403 and a ramH352 for a burntH5930 offeringH5930. 4He shall putH3847 on the 8holyH6944 linenH906 tunicH3801, and the linenH906 undergarmentsH4370 shall be nextH5921 to his 9bodyH1320, and he shall be girdedH2296 with the linenH906 sashH73 and attiredH6801 with the linenH906 turbanH4701 (theseH1992 are holyH6944 garmentsH899). Then he shall 10batheH7364 his 11bodyH1320 in waterH4325 and putH3847 them on. 5He shall takeH3947 from the congregationH5712 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 12twoH8147 maleH8163 goatsH5795 for a sinH2403 offeringH2403 and oneH259 ramH352 for a burntH5930 offeringH5930. 6Then 13AaronH175 shall offerH7126 the bullH6499 for the sinH2403 offeringH2403 whichH834 is for himself, that he may makeH3722 atonementH3722 for himself and for his householdH1004. 7He shall takeH3947 the twoH8147 goatsH8163 and presentH5975 them beforeH6440 the LordH3068 at the doorwayH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150. 8AaronH175 shall castH5414 lotsH1486 for the twoH8147 goatsH8163, oneH259 lotH1486 for the LordH3068 and the otherH259 lotH1486 for the 14scapegoatH5799. 9Then AaronH175 shall offerH7126 the goatH5795 on whichH834 the lotH1486 for the LordH3068 fellH5927, and makeH6213 it a sinH2403 offeringH2403. 10But the goatH5795 on whichH834 the lotH1486 for the 15scapegoatH5799 fellH5927 shall be presentedH5975 aliveH2416 beforeH6440 the LordH3068, to makeH3722 16atonementH3722 upon it, to sendH7971 it into the wildernessH4057 as the 17scapegoatH5799.

11“Then AaronH175 shall offerH7126 the bullH6499 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 18whichH834 is for himself and makeH3722 atonementH3722 for himself and 19for his householdH1004, and he shall slaughterH7819 the bullH6499 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 whichH834 is for himself. 12He shall takeH3947 a 20firepanH4289 fullH4393 of coalsH1513 of fireH784 from upon the altarH4196 beforeH4480H6440 the LordH3068 and 21two handfulsH4393H2651 of finelyH1851 groundH1851 22sweetH5561 incenseH7004, and bringH935 it insideH4480H1004 the veilH6532. 13He shall putH5414 the incenseH7004 on the fireH784 beforeH6440 the LordH3068, that the cloudH6051 of incenseH7004 may coverH3680 the 2324mercyH3727 seatH3727 that is on the ark of the testimonyH5715, 25otherwiseH3808 he will dieH4191. 14Moreover, 26he shall takeH3947 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 of the bullH6499 and sprinkleH5137 it 27with his fingerH676 on the 28mercyH3727 seatH3727 on the eastH6924 side; also in frontH6440 of the 29mercyH3727 seatH3727 he shall sprinkleH5137 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 with his fingerH676 sevenH7651 timesH6471.

15“Then he shall slaughterH7819 the goatH5795 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 30whichH834 is for the peopleH5971, and bringH935 its bloodH1818 insideH413H4480H1004 the veilH6532 and doH6213 with its bloodH1818 as he didH6213 with the bloodH1818 of the bullH6499, and sprinkleH5137 it on the 31mercyH3727 seatH3727 and in frontH6440 of the 32mercyH3727 seatH3727. 1633He shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the holyH6944 place, becauseH4480 of the impuritiesH2932 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 and becauseH4480 of their transgressionsH6588 in regard to allH3605 their sinsH2403; and thusH3651 he shall doH6213 for the tentH168 of meetingH4150 which abidesH7931 with them in the midstH8432 of their impuritiesH2932. 17When he goesH935 in to makeH3722 atonementH3722 in the holyH6944 place, noH3808 oneH120 shall be in the tentH168 of meetingH4150 untilH5704 he comesH3318 out, that he may makeH3722 atonementH3722 for himself and for his householdH1004 and for allH3605 the assemblyH6951 of IsraelH3478. 18Then he shall goH3318 out to the altarH4196 that is beforeH6440 the LordH3068 and makeH3722 atonementH3722 for it, and shall takeH3947 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 of the bullH6499 and of the bloodH1818 of the goatH5795 and 34putH5414 it on the hornsH7161 of the altarH4196 on allH5439 sidesH5439. 1935With his fingerH676 he shall sprinkleH5137 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 on it sevenH7651 timesH6471 and cleanseH2891 it, and from the impuritiesH2932 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 consecrateH6942 it.

20“When he finishesH3615 atoningH3722 for the holyH6944 place and the tentH168 of meetingH4150 and the altarH4196, he shall offerH7126 the liveH2416 goatH5795. 21Then AaronH175 shall layH5564 bothH8147 of his handsH3027 on the headH7218 of the liveH2416 goatH5795, and 36confessH3034 overH5921 it allH3605 the iniquitiesH5771 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 and allH3605 their transgressionsH6588 37in regard to allH3605 their sinsH2403; and he shall layH5414 them on the headH7218 of the goatH5795 and sendH7971 it awayH7971 into the wildernessH4057 by the handH3027 of a manH376 who stands in readinessH6261. 22The goatH5795 shall bearH5375 on itself allH3605 their iniquitiesH5771 to a solitaryH1509 landH776; and he shall releaseH7971 the goatH8163 in the wildernessH4057.

23“Then AaronH175 shall comeH935 into the tentH168 of meetingH4150 and takeH6584 offH6584 38the linenH906 garmentsH899 whichH834 he putH3847 on when he wentH935 into the holyH6944 place, and shall leaveH5117 them thereH8033. 2439He shall batheH7364 his 40bodyH1320 with waterH4325 in a holyH6918 placeH4725 and putH3847 on 41his clothesH899, and comeH3318 forthH3318 and offerH6213 his burntH5930 offeringH5930 and the burntH5930 offeringH5930 of the peopleH5971 and makeH3722 atonementH3722 for himself and for the peopleH5971. 25Then he shall offerH6999 up in smokeH6999 the fatH2459 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 on the altarH4196. 26The one who releasedH7971 the goatH8163 as the 42scapegoatH5799 43shall washH3526 his clothesH899 and batheH7364 his 44bodyH1320 with waterH4325; then afterwardH310H3651 he shall comeH935 into the campH4264. 27But the bullH6499 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 and the goatH8163 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403, 45whoseH834 bloodH1818 was broughtH935 in to makeH3722 atonementH3722 in the holyH6944 place, shall be takenH3318 outsideH413H4480H2351 the campH4264, and they shall burnH8313 their hidesH5785, their fleshH1320, and their refuseH6569 in the fireH784. 28Then the 46one who burnsH8313 them shall washH3526 his clothesH899 and batheH7364 his bodyH1320 with waterH4325, then afterwardH310H3651 he shall comeH935 into the campH4264.

An Annual Atonement

29“This shall be a permanentH5769 statuteH2708 for you: 47in the seventhH7637 monthH2320, on the tenthH6218 day of the monthH2320, you shall humbleH6031 your soulsH5315 and not 48doH6213 anyH3605 workH4399, whether the nativeH249, or the alienH1616 who sojournsH1481 amongH8432 you; 30for it is on thisH2088 dayH3117 that 49atonementH3722 shall be madeH3722 for you to 50cleanseH2891 you; you will be cleanH2891 from allH3605 your sinsH2403 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 31It is to be a sabbathH7676 of solemnH7677 restH7677 for you, that you may 51humbleH6031 your soulsH5315; it is a permanentH5769 statuteH2708. 32So the priestH3548 whoH834 is anointedH4886 and 52ordainedH4390H3027 to serveH3547 as priestH3547 in his father’sH1 placeH8478 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722: he shall thus putH3847 on 53the linenH906 garmentsH899, the holyH6944 garmentsH899, 33and makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the holyH6944 sanctuaryH4720, and he shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the tentH168 of meetingH4150 and for the altarH4196. He shall also makeH3722 atonementH3722 for 54the priestsH3548 and for allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the assemblyH6951. 34Now you shall haveH1961 thisH2088 as a 55permanentH5769 statuteH2708, to 56makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 for allH3605 their sinsH2403 onceH259 every yearH8141.” And justH3512 as the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 MosesH4872, so he didH6213.
