Leviticus 14

Law of Cleansing a Leper

1Then the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to MosesH4872, sayingH559, 2“ThisH2088 shall be the lawH8451 of the leperH6879 in the dayH3117 of his cleansingH2893. 1Now he shall be broughtH935 to the priestH3548, 3and the priestH3548 shall goH3318 2out to the outsideH4480H2351 of the campH4264. Thus the priestH3548 shall lookH7200, and ifH2009 the 3infectionH5061 of leprosyH6883 has been healedH7495 in the leperH6879, 4then the priestH3548 shall giveH6680 ordersH6680 to takeH3947 twoH8147 liveH2416 cleanH2889 birdsH6833 and 4cedarH730 woodH6086 and a 5scarletH8144 stringH8439 and hyssopH231 for the one who is to be cleansedH2891. 5The priestH3548 shall also giveH6680 ordersH6680 to slayH7819 the oneH259 birdH6833 in an earthenwareH2789 vesselH3627 overH5921 6runningH2416 waterH4325. 6As for the liveH2416 birdH6833, he shall takeH3947 it together with 7the cedarH730 woodH6086 and the 8scarletH8144 stringH8439 and the 9hyssopH231, and shall dipH2881 them and the liveH2416 birdH6833 in the bloodH1818 of the birdH6833 that was slainH7819 overH5921 the 10runningH2416 waterH4325. 711He shall then sprinkleH5137 sevenH7651 timesH6471 the one who is to be cleansedH2891 from the leprosyH6883 and shall pronounceH2891 him cleanH2891, and shall let the liveH2416 birdH6833 goH7971 freeH7971 overH5921 the openH6440 fieldH7704. 812The one to be cleansedH2891 shall then washH3526 his clothesH899 and shaveH1548 offH1548 allH3605 his hairH8181 and batheH7364 in waterH4325 and 13be cleanH2891. Now afterwardH310, he may enterH935 the campH4264, but he 14shall stayH3427 outsideH4480H2351 his tentH168 for sevenH7651 daysH3117. 9It will be on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 that he shall shaveH1548 offH1548 allH3605 his hairH8181: he shall shaveH1548 his headH7218 and his beardH2206 and his eyebrowsH5869H1354, even allH3605 his hairH8181. He shall then washH3526 his clothesH899 and batheH7364 his 15bodyH1320 in waterH4325 and 16be cleanH2891.

10“Now on the eighthH8066 dayH3117 he is to takeH3947 twoH8147 maleH3532 lambsH3532 withoutH8549 defectH8549, and a yearlingH8141 eweH3535 lambH3535 withoutH8549 defectH8549, and three-tenthsH7969H6241 of an 17ephah of fineH5560 flourH5560 mixedH1101 with oilH8081 for a grain offeringH4503, and oneH259 1819logH3849 of oilH8081; 11and the priestH3548 who pronouncesH2891 him cleanH2891 shall presentH5975 the manH376 to be cleansedH2891 and the 20aforesaid beforeH6440 the LordH3068 at the doorwayH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150. 12Then the priestH3548 shall takeH3947 the oneH259 maleH3532 lambH3532 and bringH7126 it for a 21guiltH817 offeringH817, with the 2223logH3849 of oilH8081, and presentH5130 them as a 24waveH8573 offeringH8573 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 13Next he shall slaughterH7819 the maleH3532 lambH3532 in 25the placeH4725 whereH834 they slaughterH7819 the sinH2403 offeringH2403 and the burntH5930 offeringH5930, at the placeH4725 of the sanctuaryH6944--for the guiltH817 offeringH817, 26like the sinH2403 offeringH2403, belongs to the priestH3548; it is mostH6944 holyH6944. 14The priestH3548 shall then takeH3947 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 of the 27guiltH817 offeringH817, and the priestH3548 shall putH5414 it on 28the lobeH8571 of the rightH3233 earH241 of the one to be cleansedH2891, and on the thumbH931 of his rightH3233 handH3027 and on the bigH931 toeH931 of his rightH3233 footH7272. 15The priestH3548 shall also takeH3947 someH4480 of the 2930logH3849 of oilH8081, and pourH3332 it into his leftH8042 palmH3709; 16the priestH3548 shall then dipH2881 his right-handH3233 fingerH676 into the oilH8081 that is in his leftH8042 palmH3709, and with his fingerH676 sprinkleH5137 someH4480 of the oilH8081 sevenH7651 timesH6471 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 17Of the remainingH3499 oilH8081 whichH834 is in his palmH3709, the priestH3548 shall putH5414 some on the rightH3233 earH241 lobeH8571 of the one to be cleansedH2891, and on the thumbH931 of his rightH3233 handH3027, and on the bigH931 toeH931 of his rightH3233 footH7272, on the bloodH1818 of the guiltH817 offeringH817; 18while the restH3498 of the oilH8081 that is in the priest’sH3548 palmH3709, he shall putH5414 on the headH7218 of the one to be cleansedH2891. So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 31atonementH3722 on his behalfH5921 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 19The priestH3548 shall next offerH6213 the 32sinH2403 offeringH2403 and makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the one to be cleansedH2891 from his uncleannessH2932. Then afterwardH310, he shall slaughterH7819 the burntH5930 offeringH5930. 20The priestH3548 shall offerH5927 up the burntH5930 offeringH5930 and the grain offeringH4503 on the altarH4196. Thus the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for him, and 33he will be cleanH2891.

21“34But ifH518 he is poorH1800 and his 35meansH3027 are insufficientH5381, then he is to takeH3947 oneH259 maleH3532 lambH3532 for a 36guiltH817 offeringH817 as a waveH8573 offeringH8573 to makeH3722 atonementH3722 for him, and one-tenthH259 of an 37ephah of fineH5560 flourH5560 mixedH1101 with oilH8081 for a grain offeringH4503, and a 3839logH3849 of oilH8081, 22and twoH8147 turtledovesH8449 orH176 twoH8147 youngH1121 pigeonsH3123 whichH834 40are withinH5381 his meansH3027, 41the oneH259 shall be a 42sinH2403 offeringH2403 and the otherH259 a burntH5930 offeringH5930. 2343Then the eighthH8066 dayH3117 he shall bringH935 them for his cleansingH2893 to the priestH3548, at the doorwayH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150, beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 24The priestH3548 shall takeH3947 the lambH3532 of the guiltH817 offeringH817 and 44the 45logH3849 of oilH8081, and the priestH3548 shall offerH5130 them for a waveH8573 offeringH8573 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 25Next he shall slaughterH7819 the lambH3532 of the guiltH817 offeringH817; and the priestH3548 is to takeH3947 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 of the guiltH817 offeringH817 and putH5414 it on 46the lobeH8571 of the rightH3233 earH241 of the one to be cleansedH2891 and on the thumbH931 of his rightH3233 handH3027 and on the bigH931 toeH931 of his rightH3233 footH7272. 26The priestH3548 shall also pourH3332 someH4480 of the oilH8081 into his leftH8042 palmH3709; 27and with his right-handH3233 fingerH676 the priestH3548 shall sprinkleH5137 someH4480 of the oilH8081 that is in his leftH8042 palmH3709 sevenH7651 timesH6471 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 28The priestH3548 shall then putH5414 someH4480 of the oilH8081 that is in his palmH3709 on the lobeH8571 of the rightH3233 earH241 of the one to be cleansedH2891, and on the thumbH931 of his rightH3233 handH3027 and on the bigH931 toeH931 of his rightH3233 footH7272, on the placeH4725 of the bloodH1818 of the guiltH817 offeringH817. 29Moreover, the restH3498 of the oilH8081 that is in the priest’sH3548 palmH3709 he shall putH5414 on the headH7218 of the one to be cleansedH2891, to makeH3722 atonementH3722 on his behalfH5921 beforeH6440 the LordH3068. 30He shall then offerH6213 oneH259 of the turtledovesH8449 orH176 youngH1121 pigeonsH3123, 47whichH834 are withinH5381 his meansH3027. 31He shall offer whatH834 48he can affordH5381H3027, 49the oneH259 for a sinH2403 offeringH2403 and the otherH259 for a burntH5930 offeringH5930, togetherH5921 with the grain offeringH4503. So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 on behalfH5921 of the one to be cleansedH2891. 32ThisH2088 is the lawH8451 for him in whomH834 there is an infectionH5061 of leprosyH6883, whoseH834 50meansH3027 are limitedH5381 for his cleansingH2893.”

Cleansing a Leprous House

33The LordH3068 further spokeH1696 to MosesH4872 and to AaronH175, sayingH559:

34“51WhenH3588 you enterH935 the landH776 of CanaanH3667, whichH834 I giveH5414 you for a possessionH272, and I putH5414 a markH5061 of leprosyH6883 on a houseH1004 in the landH776 of your possessionH272, 35then the one whoH834 owns the houseH1004 shall comeH935 and tellH5046 the priestH3548, sayingH559, ‘Something like 52a markH5061 of leprosy has becomeH7200 visibleH7200 to me in the houseH1004.’ 36The priestH3548 shall then commandH6680 that they emptyH6437 the houseH1004 beforeH2962 the priestH3548 goesH935 in to lookH7200 at the markH5061, so that everythingH3605 in the houseH1004 need not becomeH2930 uncleanH2930; and afterwardH310H3651 the priestH3548 shall goH935 in to lookH7200 at the houseH1004. 37So he shall lookH7200 at the markH5061, and ifH2009 the markH5061 on the wallsH7023 of the houseH1004 has greenishH3422 orH176 reddishH125 depressionsH8258 and appearsH4758 deeperH8217 thanH4480 the 53surfaceH7023, 38then the priestH3548 shall comeH3318 out of the houseH1004, to the 54doorwayH6607, and 55quarantineH5462 the houseH1004 for sevenH7651 daysH3117. 39The priestH3548 shall returnH7725 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 and 56makeH7200 an inspectionH7200. IfH2009 the markH5061 has indeedH2009 spreadH6581 in the wallsH7023 of the houseH1004, 40then the priestH3548 shall orderH6680 them to tearH2502 out the stonesH68 with the markH5061 in them and throwH7993 them awayH7993 57at an uncleanH2931 placeH4725 outsideH4480H2351 the cityH5892. 41He shall have the houseH1004 scrapedH7106 allH5439 aroundH5439 58insideH4480H1004, and they shall dumpH8210 the plasterH6083 that they scrapeH7096 offH7096 at an uncleanH2931 placeH4725 outsideH4480H2351 the cityH5892. 42Then they shall takeH3947 otherH312 stonesH68 and replaceH8478H935 those stonesH68, and he shall takeH3947 otherH312 plasterH6083 and replasterH2902 the houseH1004.

43“IfH518, however, the markH5061 breaksH6524 out againH7725 in the houseH1004 afterH310 he has tornH2502 out the stonesH68 and scrapedH7096 the houseH1004, and afterH310 it has been replasteredH2902, 44then the priestH3548 shall comeH935 in and 59makeH7200 an inspectionH7200. IfH2009 he seesH2009 that the markH5061 has indeedH2009 spreadH6581 in the houseH1004, it is 60a malignantH3992 markH6883 in the houseH1004; it is uncleanH2931. 45He shall therefore tearH5422 downH5422 the houseH1004, its stonesH68, and its timbersH6086, and allH3605 the plasterH6083 of the houseH1004, and he shall takeH3318 them outsideH413H4480H2351 the cityH5892 to an 61uncleanH2931 placeH4725. 46Moreover, whoever goesH935 into the houseH1004 duringH3605 the timeH3117 that he has 62quarantinedH5462 it, becomesH2930 63uncleanH2930 untilH5704 eveningH6153. 47Likewise, whoever liesH7901 downH7901 in the houseH1004 shall washH3526 his clothesH899, and whoever eatsH398 in the houseH1004 shall washH3526 his clothesH899.

48“IfH518, on the other hand, the priestH3548 comesH935 in and 64makesH7200 an inspectionH7200 and the markH5061 has not indeedH2009 spreadH6581 in the houseH1004 afterH310 the houseH1004 has been replasteredH2902, then the priestH3548 shall pronounceH2891 the houseH1004 cleanH2891 becauseH3588 the markH5061 has 65not reappearedH7495. 49To cleanseH2398 the houseH1004 then, he shall takeH3947 66twoH8147 birdsH6833 and cedarH730 woodH6086 and a 67scarletH8144 stringH8439 and hyssopH231, 50and he shall slaughterH7819 the oneH259 birdH6833 in an earthenwareH2789 vesselH3627 overH5921 68runningH2416 waterH4325. 51Then he shall takeH3947 the cedarH730 woodH6086 and the 69hyssopH231 and the 70scarletH8144 stringH8439, with the liveH2416 birdH6833, and dipH2881 them in the bloodH1818 of the slainH7819 birdH6833 as well as in the 71runningH2416 waterH4325, and sprinkleH5137 the houseH1004 sevenH7651 timesH6471. 52He shall thus cleanseH2398 the houseH1004 with the bloodH1818 of the birdH6833 and with the 72runningH2416 waterH4325, along with the liveH2416 birdH6833 and with the cedarH730 woodH6086 and with the hyssopH231 and with the 73scarletH8144 stringH8439. 53However, he shall let the liveH2416 birdH6833 goH7971 freeH7971 outsideH413H4480H2351 the cityH5892 into the openH6440 fieldH7704. So he shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for the houseH1004, and it will be cleanH2891.”

54ThisH2088 is the lawH8451 for anyH3605 markH5061 of leprosyH6883--even for a 74scaleH5424, 55and for the 75leprousH6883 garmentH899 or houseH1004, 56and 76for a swellingH7613, and for a scabH5597, and for a brightH934 spotH934-- 57to teachH3384 77whenH3117 they are uncleanH2931 and 78whenH3117 they are cleanH2889. ThisH2088 is the lawH8451 of leprosyH6883.
