Exodus 1:7-20
7But the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 1were fruitfulH6509 and 2increasedH8317 greatlyH8317, and multipliedH7235, and becameH6105 exceedinglyH3966 3mightyH6105, so that the landH776 was filledH4390 with them.
8Now a newH2319 4kingH4428 aroseH6965 overH5921 EgyptH4714, whoH834 did not knowH3045 JosephH3130. 95He saidH559 to his peopleH5971, “BeholdH2009, the peopleH5971 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 are 6moreH7227 and mightierH6099 thanH4480 we. 10ComeH3051, let us 7dealH2449 wiselyH2449 with them, orH6435 elseH6435 they will multiplyH7235 and 8in the eventH1961H3588H7122 of warH4421, they will alsoH1571 joinH3254 themselves to those whoH834 hateH8130 us, and fightH3898 against us and 9departH5927 from the landH776.” 11So they appointedH7760 10taskmastersH8269H4522 overH5921 them to afflictH6031 them with 1112hardH5450 laborH5450. And they builtH1129 for PharaohH6547 13storageH4543 citiesH5892, PithomH6619 and 14RaamsesH7486. 12But the moreH3512 they afflictedH6031 them, 15the moreH3651 they multipliedH7235 and the moreH3651 they 16spreadH6555 out, so that they were in dreadH6973 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 13The EgyptiansH4714 compelled the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 17to laborH5647 rigorouslyH6531; 14and they madeH4843 18their livesH2425 bitterH4843 with hardH7186 laborH5656 in mortarH2563 and bricksH3843 and at allH3605 kinds of laborH5656 in the fieldH7704, allH3605 their laborsH5656 whichH834 they rigorouslyH6531 19imposedH5647 on them.
15Then the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 spokeH559 to the HebrewH5680 midwivesH3205, oneH259 of whomH834 20was namedH8034 ShiphrahH8236 and the otherH8145 21was namedH8034 PuahH6326; 16and he saidH559, “When you are helping the HebrewH5680 womenH5680 to giveH3205 birthH3205 and seeH7200 them upon the birthstoolH70, 22ifH518 it is a sonH1121, then you shall putH4191 him to deathH4191; but ifH518 it is a daughterH1323, then she shall liveH2421.” 17But the midwivesH3205 2324fearedH3372 GodH430, and 25did not doH6213 as the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 had 26commandedH1696 them, but let the boysH3206 liveH2421. 18So the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 calledH7121 for the midwivesH3205 and saidH559 to them, “WhyH4069 have you doneH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697, and let the boysH3206 liveH2421?” 19The midwivesH3205 saidH559 to PharaohH6547, “BecauseH3588 the HebrewH5680 womenH5680 are not as the EgyptianH4713 womenH802; for they are vigorousH2422 and giveH3205 birthH3205 beforeH2962 the midwifeH3205 27canH935 getH935 to them.” 20So 28GodH430 was goodH3190 to the midwivesH3205, and 29the peopleH5971 multipliedH7235, and becameH6105 veryH3966 30mightyH6105.
