Conflicts to Come
1“In the 1firstH259 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the MedeH4075, 2I aroseH5975 to be 3an encouragementH2388 and a protectionH4581 for him. 2And nowH6258 I will tellH5046 you the 4truthH571. BeholdH2009, threeH7969 moreH5750 kingsH4428 are going to ariseH5975 5in PersiaH6539. Then a fourthH7243 will gainH6238 farH1419 moreH1419 richesH6239 thanH4480 allH3605 of them; as soon as he becomes strongH2393 through his richesH6239, 6he will arouseH5782 the wholeH3605 empire against the realmH4438 of 78GreeceH3120. 3And a 9mightyH1368 kingH4428 will ariseH5975, and he will ruleH4910 with greatH7227 authorityH4474 and 10doH6213 as he pleasesH7522. 4But as soon as he has arisenH5975, his kingdomH4438 will be brokenH7665 up and parceledH2673 out 11toward the 12fourH702 13pointsH7307 of the compassH8064, though not to his own descendantsH319, norH3808 according to his authorityH4915 whichH834 he wieldedH4910, for his sovereigntyH4438 will be 14uprootedH5428 and given to othersH312 besidesH4480H905 15them.
5“Then the 16kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 will growH2388 strongH2388, 17along with one of his princesH8269 18who will gainH2388 ascendancyH2388 overH5921 him and obtainH4910 dominionH4910; his domainH4475 will be a greatH7227 dominionH4475 indeed. 6AfterH7093 some yearsH8141 they will formH2266 an allianceH2266, and the daughterH1323 of the kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 will comeH935 to the 19kingH4428 of the NorthH6828 to carryH6213 out 20a peacefulH4339 arrangementH4339. But she will not retainH6113 her 21positionH2220 of powerH3581, norH3808 will he remainH5975 with his 22powerH2220, but she will be givenH5414 up, along with those who broughtH935 her in and the one who siredH3205 her as well as he who supportedH2388 her in those timesH6256. 7But one of the 23descendantsH5342 of her lineH8328 will ariseH5975 in his placeH3653, and he will comeH935 againstH413 their armyH2428 and enterH935 the 24fortressH4581 of the kingH4428 of the NorthH6828, and he will dealH6213 with them and displayH2388 great strengthH2388. 8AlsoH1571 their 25godsH430 with their 26metalH5257 imagesH5257 and their preciousH2532 vesselsH3627 of silverH3701 and goldH2091 he will takeH935 into captivityH7628 to EgyptH4714, and he on his partH1931 will 27refrainH5975 from attacking the kingH4428 of the NorthH6828 for some yearsH8141. 9Then 28the latter will enterH935 the realmH4438 of the kingH4428 of the SouthH5045, but will returnH7725 to his own landH127.
10“His sonsH1121 will 29mobilizeH1624 and assembleH622 a multitudeH1995 of greatH7227 forcesH2428; and one of them will keepH935 on comingH935 and 30overflowH7857 and passH5674 throughH5674, that he may 31againH7725 wageH1624 warH1624 up to his very fortressH4581. 11The 32kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 will be enragedH4843 and goH3318 forthH3318 and fightH3898 33with the kingH4428 of the NorthH6828. Then the latter will raiseH5975 a greatH7227 multitudeH1995, but that multitudeH1995 will be givenH5414 into 34the handH3027 of the former. 12When the multitudeH1995 is carriedH5375 away, his heartH3824 will be liftedH7311 up, and he will cause tensH7239 of thousandsH7239 to fallH5307; yet he will not prevailH5810. 13For the kingH4428 of the NorthH6828 will againH7725 raiseH5975 a greaterH7227 multitudeH1995 thanH4480 the formerH7223, and 35afterH7093 an 36intervalH7093H6256 of someH6256 yearsH8141 he will 37pressH935 on with a greatH1419 armyH2428 and muchH7227 equipmentH7399.
14“Now in thoseH1992 timesH6256 manyH7227 will riseH5975 up againstH5921 the kingH4428 of the SouthH5045; the violentH6530 onesH1121H6530 among your peopleH5971 will also liftH5375 themselves up in order to fulfillH5975 the visionH2377, but they will 38fallH3782 downH3782. 15Then the kingH4428 of the NorthH6828 will comeH935, castH8210 up a 39siegeH5550 rampH5550 and captureH3920 a well-fortifiedH4013 cityH5892; and the forcesH2220 of the SouthH5045 will not standH5975 their ground, not even 40their choicestH4005 troopsH5971, for thereH369 will be noH369 strengthH3581 to makeH5975 a standH5975. 16But he who comesH935 againstH413 him will 41doH6213 as he pleasesH7522, and 42noH369 oneH369 will be able to withstandH6440H5975 him; he will also stayH5975 for a time in the 4344BeautifulH6643 LandH776, with destructionH3617 in his handH3027. 17He will 45setH7760 his faceH6440 to comeH935 with the powerH8633 of his wholeH3605 kingdomH4438, 46bringing with him 47a proposalH3477 of peaceH3477 which he will putH6213 into effectH6213; he will also giveH5414 him the daughterH1323 of womenH802 to ruinH7843 it. But she will not takeH5975 a standH5975 for him or be 48on his side. 18Then he will turnH7725 his faceH6440 to the 49coastlandsH339 and captureH3920 manyH7227. But a commanderH7101 will putH7673 a stopH7673 to his scornH2781 against him; moreoverH1115, he will 50repayH7725 him for his scornH2781. 19So he will turnH7725 his faceH6440 toward the fortressesH4581 of his own landH776, but he will 51stumbleH3782 and fallH5307 and be 52foundH4672 noH3808 more.
20“Then in his placeH3653 one will ariseH5975 who will 53sendH5674 an 54oppressorH5065 throughH5674 the 55JewelH1925 of his kingdomH4438; yet within a fewH259 daysH3117 he will be shatteredH7665, though not in angerH639 norH3808 in battleH4421. 21In his placeH3653 a despicableH959 person will ariseH5975, on whom the honorH1935 of kingshipH4438 has not been conferredH5414, but he will comeH935 in a timeH7962 of tranquilityH7962 and 56seizeH2388 the kingdomH4438 by intrigueH2519. 22The overflowingH7858 57forcesH2220 will be floodedH7857 awayH7857 beforeH4480H6440 him and shatteredH7665, and alsoH1571 the princeH5057 of the covenantH1285. 23AfterH4480 an allianceH2266 is madeH2266 with him he will practiceH6213 deceptionH4820, and he will goH5927 up and gainH6105 powerH6105 with a smallH4592 force of peopleH1471. 2458In a timeH7962 of tranquilityH7962 he will enterH935 the 59richestH4924 parts of the 60realmH4082, and he will accomplishH6213 whatH834 his fathersH1 neverH3808 didH6213, norH3808 his 61ancestorsH1; he will distributeH967 plunderH961, bootyH7998 and possessionsH7399 among them, and he will deviseH2803 his schemesH4284 againstH5921 strongholdsH4013, but only for a timeH6256. 25He will stirH5782 up his strengthH3581 and 62courageH3824 againstH5921 the 63kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 with a largeH1419 armyH2428; so the kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 will mobilizeH1624 an extremelyH5704H3966 largeH1419 and mightyH6099 armyH2428 for warH4421; but he will not standH5975, for schemesH4284 will be devisedH2803 againstH5921 him. 26Those who eatH398 his choiceH6598 foodH6598 will 64destroyH7665 him, and his armyH2428 will 6566overflowH7857, but manyH7227 will fallH5307 downH5307 slainH2491. 27As for bothH8147 kingsH4428, their heartsH3824 will be intent on 67evilH7489, and they will 68speakH1696 liesH3577 to each other at the sameH259 tableH7979; but it will not succeedH6743, for the 69endH7093 is stillH5750 to come at the appointedH4150 timeH4150. 28Then he will returnH7725 to his landH776 with muchH1419 70plunderH7399; but his heartH3824 will be set againstH5921 the holyH6944 covenantH1285, and he will takeH6213 actionH6213 and then returnH7725 to his own landH776.
29“At the appointedH4150 timeH4150 he will returnH7725 and comeH935 into the SouthH5045, but 71this lastH314 timeH314 it will not turnH1961 out the way it did beforeH7223. 30For shipsH6716 of 7273KittimH3794 will comeH935 against him; therefore he will be disheartenedH3512 and will returnH7725 and becomeH2194 enragedH2194 at the holyH6944 covenantH1285 and takeH6213 actionH6213; so he will comeH7725 backH7725 and showH995 regardH995 for those who forsakeH5800 the holyH6944 covenantH1285. 31ForcesH2220 from him will ariseH5975, 74desecrateH2490 the sanctuaryH4720 fortressH4581, and doH5493 awayH5493 with the regularH8548 sacrificeH8548. And they will setH5414 up the 75abominationH8251 76of desolationH8074. 32By 77smoothH2514 words he will 78turnH2610 to godlessnessH2610 those who actH7561 wickedlyH7561 toward the covenantH1285, but the peopleH5971 who knowH3045 their GodH430 will displayH2388 79strengthH2388 and takeH6213 actionH6213. 338081Those who haveH7919 insightH7919 among the peopleH5971 will giveH995 understandingH995 to the manyH7227; yet they will 82fallH3782 by swordH2719 and by flameH3852, by captivityH7628 and by plunderH961 for many daysH3117. 34Now when they fallH3782 they will be grantedH5826 a littleH4592 helpH5828, and manyH7227 will 83joinH3867 with them in 84hypocrisyH2519. 35SomeH4480 of 85those who haveH7919 insightH7919 will fallH3782, in order to 86refineH6884, 87purgeH1305 and makeH3835 them 8889pureH3835 untilH5704 the 90endH7093 timeH6256; becauseH3588 it is stillH5750 to come at the appointedH4150 timeH4150.
36“Then the kingH4428 will 91doH6213 as he pleasesH7522, and he will exaltH7311 and 92magnifyH1431 himself aboveH5921 everyH3605 godH410 and will 93speakH1696 94monstrousH6381 thingsH6381 againstH5921 the 95GodH410 of godsH410; and he will prosperH6743 untilH5704 the 96indignationH2195 is finishedH3615, for that which is 97decreedH2782 will be doneH6213. 37He will showH995 noH3808 regardH995 for the 98godsH430 of his fathersH1 or for the desireH2532 of womenH802, norH3808 will he showH995 regardH995 for anyH3605 other godH433; for he will magnifyH1431 himself aboveH5921 them allH3605. 38But 99insteadH5921H3653 he will honorH3513 a godH433 of fortressesH4581, a godH433 whomH834 his fathersH1 did not knowH3045; he will honorH3513 him with goldH2091, silverH3701, costlyH3368 stonesH68 and treasuresH2536. 39He will takeH6213 actionH6213 against the strongestH4581 of fortressesH4581 with the help of a foreignH5236 godH433; he will giveH7235 greatH7235 honorH3519 to 100those whoH834 acknowledgeH5234 him and will cause them to ruleH4910 over the manyH7227, and will parcelH2505 out landH127 for a priceH4242.
40“At the 101endH7093 timeH6256 the 102kingH4428 of the SouthH5045 will collideH5055 with him, and the 103kingH4428 of the NorthH6828 will 104stormH8175 againstH5921 him with chariotsH7393, with horsemenH6571 and with manyH7227 shipsH591; and he will enterH935 countriesH776, 105overflowH7857 them and passH5674 throughH5674. 41He will also enterH935 the 106107BeautifulH6643 LandH776, and manyH7227 countries will fallH3782; but theseH428 will be rescuedH4422 out of his handH3027: EdomH112, 108MoabH4124 and the foremostH7225 of the sonsH1121 of 109AmmonH5983. 42Then he will stretchH7971 out his handH3027 against other countriesH776, and the landH776 of EgyptH4714 will not escapeH6413. 43But he will 110gainH4910 controlH4910 over the hiddenH4362 treasuresH4362 of goldH2091 and silverH3701 and over allH3605 the preciousH2536 thingsH2536 of EgyptH4714; and 111LibyansH3864 and 112EthiopiansH3569 will follow at his 113heelsH4703. 44But rumorsH8052 from the EastH4217 and from the NorthH6828 will disturbH926 him, and he will goH3318 forthH3318 with greatH1419 wrathH2534 to destroyH8045 and 114annihilateH2763 manyH7227. 45He will pitchH5193 the tentsH168 of his royalH643 pavilionH643 betweenH996 the seasH3220 and the beautifulH6643 115HolyH6944 MountainH2022; yet he will comeH935 to his endH7093, and noH369 oneH369 will helpH5826 him.
