1Now Shephatiahשְׁפַטְיָ֣הshe.fat.YahH8203the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Mattanמַתָּ֗ןma.TanH4977,and Gedaliahוּגְדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙u.ge.dal.Ya.huH1436the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Pashhurפַּשְׁח֔וּרpash.ChurH6583,and JucalH3081thesonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Shelemiahשֶׁ֣לֶמְיָ֔הוּshe.lem.Ya.huH8018, andPashhurוּפַשְׁח֖וּרu.fash.ChurH6583the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Malchijahמַלְכִּיָּ֑הmal.ki.YahH4441heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֞עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the wordsהַדְּבָרִ֔יםha.de.va.RimH1697that Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֛הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414was speakingמְדַבֵּ֥רme.da.BerH1696to allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃ סle.MorH559,

2“Thusכֹּה֮kohH3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָה֒Yah.wehH3068, ‘He whostaysהַיֹּשֵׁב֙hai.yo.ShevH3427in thisH2088cityבָּעִ֣ירba.'IrH5892will dieיָמ֕וּתya.MutH4191by theswordבַּחֶ֖רֶבba.Che.revH2719and by famineבָּרָעָ֣בba.ra.'AvH7458and by pestilenceוּבַדָּ֑בֶרu.va.Da.verH1698,but he who goesוְהַיֹּצֵ֤אve.hai.yo.Tze'H3318out to the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ha.kas.DimH3778will liveH2421and haveוְהָיְתָה־ve.ha.ye.tah-H1961his ownlifeנַפְשׁ֛וֹnaf.ShoH5315as bootyלְשָׁלָ֖לle.sha.LalH7998and stayH2421aliveH2421.’

3Thusכֹּ֖הkohH3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, ‘ThisH2088cityהָעִ֣ירha.'IrH5892will certainlyהִנָּתֹ֨ןhi.na.TonH5414begivenתִּנָּתֵ֜ןti.na.TenH5414into the handבְּיַ֛דbe.YadH3027of the armyחֵ֥ילcheilH2428of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶ֖לba.VelH894and he will captureוּלְכָדָֽהּ׃u.le.kha.DahH3920it.’”

4Then theofficialsהַשָּׂרִ֜יםha.sa.RimH8269saidוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, “Nowנָא֮na'H4994let thisH2088manהָאִ֣ישׁha.'IshH376be putי֣וּמַתYu.matH4191to deathH4191,inasmuchעַל־ כֵּ֡ן'al- kenH3588 H5921 H3651as he isdiscouragingמְרַפֵּ֡אme.ra.Pe'H7503 H3027the menהָאִ֣ישׁha.'IshH376of warהַמִּלְחָמָ֜הha.mil.cha.MahH4421who are leftהַֽנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים׀ha.nish.'a.RimH7604in thisH2088cityבָּעִ֣ירba.'IrH5892andallכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971,by speakingלְדַבֵּ֣רle.da.BerH1696suchהָאֵ֑לֶּהha.'E.lehH428wordsכַּדְּבָרִ֖יםka.de.va.RimH1697to them; for thisH2088manH376is not seekingדֹרֵ֧שׁdo.ReshH1875the well-beingלְשָׁל֛וֹםle.sha.LomH7965of thisH2088peopleלָעָ֥םla.'AmH5971but ratherאִם־'im-H3588 H518their harmH7463.”

5So Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֔הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009, he is in yourhandsבְּיֶדְכֶ֑םbe.yed.KhemH3027;for the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428canיוּכַ֥לyu.KhalH3201donothingאֵ֣ין דָּבָֽר׃'ein da.VarH369 H1697against you.”

6Then they tookוַיִּקְח֣וּvai.yik.ChuH3947Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֗הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414and castוַיַּשְׁלִ֨כוּvai.yash.Li.khuH7993him into thecisternהַבּ֣וֹר׀ha.BorH953ofMalchijahמַלְכִּיָּ֣הוּmal.ki.Ya.huH4441the king’sהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sonבֶן־ven-H1121,whichאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834was in the courtבַּחֲצַ֣רba.cha.TzarH2691of the guardhouseהַמַּטָּרָ֔הha.ma.ta.RahH4307;and they letH7971Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414downH7971with ropesבַּחֲבָלִ֑יםba.cha.va.LimH2256.Now in the cisternוּבַבּ֤וֹרu.va.BorH953thereH369was noH369waterמַ֙יִם֙ma.yimH4325but onlyאִם־'im-H518mudטִ֔יטTitH2916,and Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414sankוַיִּטְבַּ֥עvai.yit.Ba'H2883into the mudבַּטִּֽיט׃ סba.TitH2916.

7ButEbed-melechH5663the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֜יha.ku.ShiH3569, aeunuchסָרִ֗יסsa.RisH5631,while he was in the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004,heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֡עvai.yish.Ma'H8085that they had putנָתְנ֥וּna.te.NuH5414Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414into the cisternהַבּ֑וֹרha.BorH953.Now the kingוְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428was sittingיוֹשֵׁ֖בyo.ShevH3427in theGateבְּשַׁ֥עַרbe.Sha.'arH8179of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִֽן׃bin.ya.MinH1144;

8and Ebed-melechH5663wentוַיֵּצֵ֥אvai.ye.Tze'H3318out from the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428palaceמִבֵּ֣יתmi.BeitH1004and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

9“My lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,theseהָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ha.'E.lehH428menH376have actedH7489wickedlyH7489in allכָּל־kol-H3605that they have doneעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213to Jeremiahלְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּle.yir.me.Ya.huH3414the prophetהַנָּבִ֔יאha.na.Vi'H5030whomH834they have castהִשְׁלִ֖יכוּhish.Li.khuH7993into the cisternהַבּ֑וֹרha.BorH953; and hewill dieוַיָּ֤מָתvai.Ya.motH4191rightH8478whereH8478he is becauseמִפְּנֵ֣יmi.pe.NeiH4480 H6440of the famineהָֽרָעָ֔בha.ra.'AvH7458,for thereH369isnoH369moreע֖וֹדodH5750breadהַלֶּ֛חֶםha.Le.chemH3899in the cityבָּעִֽיר׃ba.'IrH5892.”

10Then the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428commandedוַיְצַוֶּ֣הvay.tza.VehH6680Ebed-melechH5663the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֖יha.ku.ShiH3569,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Takeקַ֣חkachH3947thirtyשְׁלֹשִׁ֣יםshe.lo.ShimH7970menH376from hereמִזֶּה֙mi.ZehH2088under your authorityבְּיָדְךָ֤be.ya.de.KhaH3027and bringוְֽהַעֲלִ֜יתָve.ha.'a.Li.taH5927up Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֧הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414the prophetהַנָּבִ֛יאha.na.Vi'H5030from the cisternהַבּ֖וֹרha.BorH953beforeבְּטֶ֥רֶםbe.Te.remH2962he diesיָמֽוּת׃ya.MutH4191.”

11So Ebed-melechH5663tookוַיִּקַּ֣ח׀vai.yi.KachH3947the menH376under hisauthorityבְּיָד֗וֹbe.ya.DoH3027and wentוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935into the king’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבֵית־veit-H1004to a placebeneathתַּ֣חַתTa.chatH8478the storeroomהָאוֹצָ֔רha.'o.TzarH214and tookוַיִּקַּ֤חvai.yi.KachH3947from thereמִשָּׁם֙mi.ShamH8033worn-outבְּלוֹיֵ֣be.lo.YeH1094clothesסְחָב֔וֹתse.cha.VotH5499and worn-outוּבְלוֹיֵ֖u.ve.lo.YeH1094ragsמְלָחִ֑יםme.la.ChimH4418and letH7971them downH7971by ropesבַּחֲבָלִֽים׃ba.cha.va.LimH2256into the cisternהַבּ֖וֹרha.BorH953to Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֛הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414.

12Then Ebed-melechH5663the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֜יha.ku.ShiH3569saidוַיֹּ֡אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֗הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414, “Nowנָ֠אna'H4994putשִׂ֣יםsimH7760these worn-outבְּלוֹאֵ֨יbe.lo.'EiH1094clothesהַסְּחָב֤וֹתha.se.cha.VotH5499and ragsוְהַמְּלָחִים֙ve.ha.me.la.ChimH4418underתַּ֚חַתTa.chatH8478your armpitsאַצִּל֣וֹת יָדֶ֔יךָ'a.tzi.Lot ya.Dei.khaH679 H3027underמִתַּ֖חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478the ropesלַחֲבָלִ֑יםla.cha.va.LimH2256”;and Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֖הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414didוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּֽן׃KenH3651.

13So they pulledוַיִּמְשְׁכ֤וּvai.yim.she.KhuH4900Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙yir.me.Ya.huH3414up with the ropesבַּֽחֲבָלִ֔יםba.cha.va.LimH2256and liftedוַיַּעֲל֥וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927him out of the cisternהַבּ֑וֹרha.BorH953,and Jeremiahיִרְמְיָ֔הוּyir.me.Ya.huH3414stayedוַיֵּ֣שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in thecourtבַּחֲצַ֖רba.cha.TzarH2691of the guardhouseהַמַּטָּרָֽה׃ סha.ma.ta.RahH4307.
