Obadiah 1:2-14
Behold, I have madeH5414 thee smallH6996 among the nationsH1471; thou art greatly despisedH959.
The prideH2087 of thy heartH3820 hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the cleftsH2288 of the rockH5553, whose habitation is highH4791; — he that saith in his heartH3820, Who shall bringH3381 me downH3381 to the groundH776?
Though thou exalt thyself as the eagleH5404, and though thou setH7760 thy nestH7064 among the starsH3556, thence will I bringH3381 thee downH3381, saith Jehovah.
If thievesH1590 had comeH935 to thee, if robbers by nightH3915, (howH349 art thou cut off!) would they not have stolenH1589 [till] they had had enough? If grape-gatherers had comeH935 to thee, would they not have leftH7604 some gleaningsH5955?
HowH349 is EsauH6215 searchedH2664! his hidden things sought out!
All the menH376 of thy confederacy have pushed thee to the borderH1366; the menH376 that were at peaceH7965 with thee have deceived thee, they have prevailedH3201 against thee; [they that eat] thy breadH3899 have laid a snare under thee. There is no understandingH8394 in him.
Shall I not in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah, destroyH6 the wiseH2450 men out of EdomH123, and understandingH8394 out of the mount of EsauH6215?
And thy mightyH1368 menH376, O TemanH8487, shall be dismayedH2865, to the end that every oneH376 may be cutH3772 off from the mount of EsauH6215 by slaughter.
Because of violenceH2555 against thy brotherH251 JacobH3290, shameH955 shall coverH3680 thee, and thou shalt be cutH3772 off for everH5769.
In the dayH3117 that thou stoodest on the other side, in the dayH3117 that strangersH2114 carried away captiveH7617 his substance, and foreigners entered into his gatesH8179, and castH3032 lotsH1486 upon JerusalemH3389, even thou wast as oneH259 of them.
But thou shouldest not have lookedH7200 on the dayH3117 of thy brotherH251 in the dayH3117 of his disaster; neither shouldest thou have rejoicedH8055 over the children of JudahH3063 in the dayH3117 of their destruction; nor have opened wide thy mouthH6310 in the dayH3117 of distressH6869.
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gateH8179 of my peopleH5971 in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343, nor have lookedH7200, even thou, on their affliction in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343, neither shouldest thou have laid [hands] on their substance in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343;
and thou shouldest not have stoodH5975 on the crossway, to cutH3772 off those of his that did escapeH6412, nor have deliveredH5462 up those remaining of him in the dayH3117 of distressH6869.
