36And Saulשָׁא֡וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Let us go downנֵרְדָ֣הne.re.DahH3381afterאַחֲרֵי֩'a.cha.ReiH310the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֨ים׀fe.lish.TimH6430by nightלַ֜יְלָהLay.lahH3915and plunderוְֽנָבֹ֥זָהve.na.Vo.zahH962themuntilעַד־'ad-H5704dawnא֣וֹר הַבֹּ֗קֶר'or ha.Bo.kerH216 H1242,leavingנַשְׁאֵ֤רnash.'ErH7604noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808manאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376alive!” “Doעֲשֵׂ֑ה ס'a.SehH6213whatכָּל־kol-H3605seems goodהַטּ֥וֹבha.TovH2896to youבְּעֵינֶ֖יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,”the troops repliedוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559.But the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “We must consultנִקְרְבָ֥ה אֶל־nik.re.Vah 'el-H7126 H413Godהָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ha.'E.lo.HimH430hereהֲלֹ֖םha.LomH1988.”

37So Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֤לvai.yish.'AlH7592of Godבֵּֽאלֹהִ֔יםbe.lo.HimH430, “Shall I go downהַֽאֵרֵד֙ha.'e.RedH3381afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430?Will You give themהֲתִתְּנֵ֖םha.ti.te.NemH5414into the handבְּיַ֣דbe.YadH3027of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478?”But God did notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808answer himעָנָ֖הוּ'a.Na.huH6030thatהַהֽוּא׃ha.Hu'H1931dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117.

38Therefore Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Comeגֹּ֣שֽׁוּGo.shuH5066hereהֲלֹ֔םha.LomH1988,allכֹּ֖לkolH3605you leadersפִּנּ֣וֹתpi.NotH6438of the troopsהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971,and let us investigateוּדְע֣וּ וּרְא֔וּu.de.'U u.re.'UH3045 H7200howבַּמָּ֗הba.MahH4100thisהַזֹּ֖אתha.ZotH2063sinהַחַטָּ֥אתha.cha.TatH2403has occurredהָֽיְתָ֛הha.ye.TahH1961todayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117.

39As surely asכִּ֣יkiH3588the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068who savesהַמּוֹשִׁ֙יעַ֙ha.mo.Shi.a'H3467אֶת־'et-H853Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478livesחַי־chai-H2416,evenכִּ֧יkiH3588ifאִם־'im-H518it isיֶשְׁנ֛וֹyesh.NoH3426my sonבְּנִ֖י כִּ֣יbe.Ni kiH1121 H3588Jonathanבְּיוֹנָתָ֥ןbe.yo.na.TanH3129,he must dieH4191!”But not oneוְאֵ֥יןve.'EinH369of the troopsהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971saidעֹנֵ֖הוּ'o.Ne.huH6030a wordמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605.

40Then Saul saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “Youאַתֶּם֙'a.TemH859standתִּֽהְיוּ֙tih.YuH1961on oneאֶחָ֔ד'e.ChadH259sideלְעֵ֣בֶרle.'E.verH5676,and Iוַֽאֲנִי֙va.'a.NiH589and my sonבְּנִ֔יbe.NiH1121Jonathanוְיוֹנָתָ֣ןve.yo.na.TanH3129will standנִהְיֶ֖הnih.YehH1961on the otherאֶחָ֑ד'e.ChadH259sideלְעֵ֣בֶרle.'E.verH5676.” “Doעֲשֵֽׂה׃ ס'a.SehH6213what seems goodהַטּ֥וֹבha.TovH2896to youבְּעֵינֶ֖יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,”the troopsהָעָם֙ אֶל־ שָׁא֔וּלha.'Am 'el- sha.'UlH5971 H413 H7586repliedוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559.

41So Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the LORDH3068,the GodH430of IsraelH3478, “Why have You not answered Your servant this day? If the fault is with me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim, but if the fault is with the men of Israel,respondH3051with Thummimתָמִ֑יםta.MimH8549.”And JonathanH3129and Saulוְשָׁא֖וּלve.sha.'UlH7586were selectedוַיִּלָּכֵ֧דvai.yi.la.KhedH3920,but the peopleH5971were cleared of the chargeיָצָֽאוּ׃ya.Tza.'uH3318.

42Then Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Castהַפִּ֕ילוּha.Pi.luH5307the lotbetween meבֵּינִ֕יbei.NiH996andוּבֵ֖יןu.VeinH996my sonבְּנִ֑יbe.NiH1121Jonathanיוֹנָתָ֣ןyo.na.TanH3129.”And Jonathanיוֹנָתָֽן׃yo.na.TanH3129was selectedוַיִּלָּכֵ֖דvai.yi.la.KhedH3920.

43“Tellהַגִּ֥ידָהha.Gi.dahH5046mewhatמֶ֣הmehH4100you have doneעָשִׂ֑יתָה'a.Si.tahH6213,”Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586commandedוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־vai.Yo.mer 'el-H559 H413himי֣וֹנָתָ֔ןyo.na.TanH3129.So Jonathanיוֹנָתָ֗ן וַיֹּאמֶר֩yo.na.Tan vai.yo.MerH3129 H559toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046him, “I only tastedH2938a littleמְעַ֥טme.'AtH4592honeyדְּבַ֖שׁde.VashH1706with the endבִּקְצֵ֨הbik.TzehH7097of the staffהַמַּטֶּ֧הha.ma.TehH4294thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834wasin my handבְּיָדִ֛יbe.ya.DiH3027.And nowהִנְנִ֥יhi.NiH2005I must dieאָמֽוּת׃'a.MutH4191?”

44And Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586declaredוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “May Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430punish meכֹּֽה־ יַעֲשֶׂ֥הkoh- ya.'a.SehH3541 H6213,and ever soוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541severelyיוֹסִ֑ףyo.SifH3254,if you, Jonathanיוֹנָתָֽן׃yo.na.TanH3129,do notכִּֽי־ki-H3588surely dieH4191!”

45But the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586, “Must Jonathanהֲֽיוֹנָתָ֤ן׀hayo.na.TanH3129dieיָמוּת֙ya.MutH4191—he whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834accomplishedעָ֠שָׂה'A.sahH6213suchהַזֹּאת֮ha.zoTH2063a greatהַגְּדוֹלָ֣הha.ge.do.LahH1419deliveranceהַיְשׁוּעָ֨הhay.shu.'AhH3444for Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל֒be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478?Neverחָלִ֗ילָהcha.Li.lahH2486!As surely as the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416,notאִם־'im-H518a hairמִשַּׂעֲרַ֤תmi.sa.'a.RatH8185of his headרֹאשׁוֹ֙ro.ShoH7218will fallיִפֹּ֞לyi.PolH5307to the groundאַ֔רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588withעִם־'im-H5973God’s helpאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430he has accomplished thisעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213todayהַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑הhai.Yom ha.ZehH3117 H2088.”So the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971אֶת־'et-H853rescuedוַיִּפְדּ֥וּvai.yif.DuH6299Jonathanיוֹנָתָ֖ןyo.na.TanH3129,and he did notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808dieמֵֽת׃ סMetH4191.

46Then Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586gave upוַיַּ֣עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927his pursuitמֵאַחֲרֵ֖יme.'a.cha.ReiH310of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430,and the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430returnedהָלְכ֥וּha.le.KhuH1980to their own landלִמְקוֹמָֽם׃lim.ko.MamH4725.
