Deborah and Barak Deliver from Canaanites
1Then 1the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 againH3254 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, after EhudH164 diedH4191. 2And the LordH3068 soldH4376 them into the handH3027 of 2JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667, whoH834 reignedH4427 in HazorH2674; and the commanderH8269 of his armyH6635 was SiseraH5516, whoH834 livedH3427 in 3Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471. 3The sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 criedH6817 to the LordH3068; for he had nineH8672 hundredH3967 4ironH1270 chariotsH7393, and he oppressedH3905 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 severelyH2394 for twentyH6242 yearsH8141.
4Now DeborahH1683, a 5prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of LappidothH3941, was judgingH8199 IsraelH3478 at that timeH6256. 5She used to 6sitH3427 underH8478 the 7palmH8560 treeH8560 of DeborahH1683 betweenH996 RamahH7414 and BethelH1008 in the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669; and the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 cameH5927 up to her for judgmentH4941. 6Now she sentH7971 and summonedH7121 8BarakH1301 the sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 from Kedesh-naphtaliH6943H5321, and saidH559 to him, “9BeholdH3808, the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, has commandedH6680, ‘GoH1980 and marchH4900 to MountH2022 TaborH8396, and takeH3947 with you tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 from the sonsH1121 of NaphtaliH5321 and from the sonsH1121 of ZebulunH2074. 7I will drawH4900 out to you SiseraH5516, the commanderH8269 of Jabin’sH2985 armyH6635, with his chariotsH7393 and his 10manyH1995 troops to the riverH5158 KishonH7028, and 11I will giveH5414 him into your handH3027.’” 8Then BarakH1301 saidH559 to her, “IfH518 you will goH1980 with me, then I will goH1980; but ifH518 you will not goH1980 with me, I will not goH1980.” 9She saidH559, “I will surelyH1980 goH1980 with you; neverthelessH657H3588, the honorH8597 shall not be yours on the journeyH1870 that you are about to takeH1980, 12for the LordH3068 will sellH4376 SiseraH5516 into the handsH3027 of a womanH802.” Then DeborahH1683 aroseH6965 and wentH1980 with BarakH1301 to KedeshH6943. 10BarakH1301 calledH2199 13ZebulunH2074 and NaphtaliH5321 togetherH2199 to KedeshH6943, and tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 wentH5927 up 1415with him; DeborahH1683 also wentH5927 up with him.
11Now HeberH2268 16the KeniteH7017 had separatedH6504 himself from the KenitesH7014, from the sonsH1121 of HobabH2246 the father-in-lawH2860 of MosesH4872, and had pitchedH5186 his tentH168 as farH5704 away as the 17oakH436 in 18ZaanannimH6815, whichH834 is nearH854 KedeshH6943.
12Then they toldH5046 SiseraH5516 that BarakH1301 the sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 had goneH5927 up to MountH2022 TaborH8396. 13SiseraH5516 calledH2199 togetherH2199 allH3605 his chariotsH7393, 19nineH8672 hundredH3967 ironH1270 chariotsH7393, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 whoH834 were with him, from 20Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471 to the riverH5158 KishonH7028. 14DeborahH1683 saidH559 to BarakH1301, “AriseH6965! For thisH2088 is the dayH3117 in whichH834 the LordH3068 has givenH5414 SiseraH5516 into your handsH3027; 21beholdH3808, 22the LordH3068 has goneH3318 out beforeH6440 you.” So BarakH1301 wentH3381 downH3381 from MountH2022 TaborH8396 with tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 followingH310 him. 1523The LordH3068 24routedH2000 SiseraH5516 and allH3605 his chariotsH7393 and allH3605 his armyH4264 with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719 beforeH6440 BarakH1301; and SiseraH5516 alightedH3381 from his chariotH4818 and fledH5127 away on footH7272. 16But BarakH1301 pursuedH7291 the chariotsH7393 and the armyH4264 as farH5704 as Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471, and allH3605 the armyH4264 of SiseraH5516 fellH5307 by the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719; 25not evenH5704 oneH259 was leftH7604.
17Now SiseraH5516 fledH5127 away on footH7272 to the tentH168 of JaelH3278 the wifeH802 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017, for there was peaceH7965 betweenH996 JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of HazorH2674 and the houseH1004 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017. 18JaelH3278 wentH3318 out to meetH7122 SiseraH5516, and saidH559 to him, “TurnH5493 asideH5493, my masterH113, turnH5493 asideH5493 to me! Do not be afraidH3372.” And he turnedH5493 asideH5493 to her into the tentH168, and she coveredH3680 him with a 26rugH8063. 1927He saidH559 to her, “PleaseH4994 giveH8248 me a littleH4592 waterH4325 to drinkH8248, for I am thirstyH6770.” So she openedH6605 a 28bottleH4997 of milkH2461 and gaveH8248 him a drinkH8248; then she coveredH3680 him. 20He saidH559 to her, “StandH5975 in the doorwayH6607 of the tentH168, and it shall be ifH518 anyoneH376 comesH935 and inquiresH7592 of you, and saysH559, ‘Is thereH3426 anyoneH376 hereH6311?’ that you shall sayH559, ‘NoH369.’” 21But JaelH3278, Heber’sH2268 wifeH802, 29tookH3947 a tentH168 pegH3489 and 30seizedH7760 a hammerH4717 in her handH3027, and wentH935 secretlyH3909 to him and droveH8628 the pegH3489 into his templeH7541, and it wentH6795 throughH6795 into the groundH776; for he was soundH7290 asleepH7290 and exhaustedH5888. So he diedH4191. 22And beholdH2009, as BarakH1301 pursuedH7291 SiseraH5516, JaelH3278 cameH3318 out to meetH7122 him and saidH559 to him, “ComeH1980, and I will showH7200 you the manH376 whomH834 you are seekingH1245.” And he enteredH935 31with her, and beholdH2009 SiseraH5516 was lyingH5307 deadH4191 with the tentH3489 pegH3489 in his templeH7541.
23So 32GodH430 subduedH3665 on that dayH3117 JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of CanaanH3667 beforeH6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 24The handH3027 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 pressedH1980 heavierH1980 and heavierH7186 upon JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of CanaanH3667, untilH5704H834 they had 33destroyedH3772 JabinH2985 the kingH4428 of CanaanH3667.
