Deborah and Barak
1After EhudH164 diedH4191, the IsraelitesH1121H3478 againH3254 didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068. 2So the LORDH3068 sold themH4376 into the handH3027 of JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667, whoH834 reignedH4427 in HazorH2674. The commanderH8269 of his forcesH6635 was SiseraH5516, whoH1931 livedH3427 in Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471. 3Then the IsraelitesH1121H3478 cried outH6817 toH413 the LORDH3068, becauseH3588 Jabin had nineH8672 hundredH3967 chariotsH7393 of ironH1270, and heH1931 had harshlyH2394 oppressedH3905 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 for twentyH6242 yearsH8141.
4Now DeborahH1683, a prophetessH802H5031, the wifeH802 of LappidothH3941, was judgingH8199 IsraelH3478 at thatH1931 timeH6256H1931. 5And sheH1931 would sitH3427 underH8478 the PalmH8560 of DeborahH1683 betweenH996 RamahH7414H996 and BethelH1008 in the hill countryH2022 of EphraimH669, where the IsraelitesH1121H3478 would go upH5927 to herH413 for judgmentH4941.
6She summonedH7971H7121 BarakH1301 sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 from KedeshH6943 in NaphtaliH5321 and saidH559 to himH413, “Surely the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, is commanding youH6680: ‘GoH1980 and marchH4900 to MountH2022 TaborH8396, takingH3947 with youH5973 tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 of NaphtaliH1121H5321 and ZebulunH1121H2074. 7And I will draw outH4900 SiseraH5516 the commanderH8269 of Jabin’sH2985 armyH6635, his chariotsH7393, and his troopsH1995 toH413 the RiverH5158 KishonH7028, and I will deliver himH5414 into your handH3027.’”
8BarakH1301 saidH559 to herH413, “IfH518 you will goH1980 with meH5973, I will goH1980; but ifH518 you will notH3808 goH1980 with meH5973, I will notH3808 goH1980.”
9“I will certainly goH1980 with youH5973,” Deborah repliedH559, “butH657H3588 the roadH1870 youH859 are takingH1980 will bring youH1961 noH3808 honorH8597, becauseH3588 the LORDH3068 will be sellingH4376 SiseraH5516 into the handH3027 of a womanH802.” So DeborahH1683 got upH6965 and wentH1980 withH5973 BarakH1301 to KedeshH6943, 10where heH1301 summonedH2199 ZebulunH2074 and NaphtaliH5321. TenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 followedH5927 himH7272, and DeborahH1683 also wentH5927 with himH5973.
11Now HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017 had moved awayH6504 from the KenitesH7014, the descendantsH1121 of HobabH2246 the father-in-lawH28591 of MosesH4872, and had pitchedH5186 his tentH168 byH5704 the great treeH436 of ZaanannimH6815, whichH834 was nearH854 KedeshH6943.
12When SiseraH5516 was toldH5046 thatH3588 BarakH1301 sonH1121 of AbinoamH42 had gone upH5927 MountH2022 TaborH8396, 13he summonedH2199 allH3605 nineH8672 hundredH3967 of his ironH1270 chariotsH7393 and allH3605 the menH5971 with himH854, from Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471 toH413 the RiverH5158 KishonH7028.
14Then DeborahH1683 saidH559 toH413 BarakH1301, “AriseH6965, forH3588 thisH2088 is the dayH3117 thatH834 the LORDH3068 has deliveredH5414 SiseraH5516 into your handH3027. Has notH3808 the LORDH3068 goneH3318 before youH6440?”
So BarakH1301 came downH3381 from MountH2022 TaborH8396 with tenH6235 thousandH505 menH376 following himH310. 15And in front ofH6440 him the LORDH3068 routedH2000 with the swordH6310H2719 SiseraH5516, allH3605 his charioteersH7393, and allH3605 his armyH4264. SiseraH5516 abandonedH3381H5921 his chariotH4818 and fledH5127 on footH7272.
16Then BarakH1301 pursuedH7291H310 the chariotsH7393H310 and armyH4264 as far asH5704 Harosheth-hagoyimH2800H1471, and the wholeH3605 armyH4264 of SiseraH5516H6310 fellH5307 by the swordH2719; notH3808 a singleH259 man was leftH7604H5704.
Jael Kills Sisera
17Meanwhile, SiseraH5516 had fledH5127 on footH7272 toH413 the tentH168 of JaelH3278, the wifeH802 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017, becauseH3588 there was peaceH7965 betweenH996 JabinH2985 kingH4428 of HazorH2674 andH996 the houseH1004 of HeberH2268 the KeniteH7017. 18JaelH3278H7122 went out to greetH3318 SiseraH5516 and saidH559 to himH413, “Come inH5493, my lordH113. Come inH5493 with meH413. Do notH408 be afraidH3372.” So he enteredH5493H413 her tentH168, and she covered himH3680 with a blanketH8063.
19Sisera saidH559 to herH413, “PleaseH4994 give me a littleH4592 waterH4325 to drinkH8248, forH3588 I am thirstyH6770.” So she openedH6605 a containerH4997 of milkH2461, gave him a drinkH8248, and covered him againH3680.
20“StandH5975 at the entranceH6607 to the tentH168,” he saidH559, “andH1961 ifH518 anyoneH376 comesH935 and asks youH7592, ‘Is thereH3426 a manH376H559 hereH6311?’ sayH559, ‘NoH369.’”
21But as heH1931 lay sleepingH7290 from exhaustionH5888, Heber’sH2268 wifeH802 JaelH3278 tookH3947 a tentH168 pegH3489, grabbedH7760 a hammerH4718H3027, and wentH935 silentlyH3814 to SiseraH413. She droveH8628 the pegH3489 through his templeH7541 and into the groundH776, and he diedH4191.
When BarakH1301 arrived in pursuit ofH7291 SiseraH5516, JaelH3278 went outH3318 to greet himH7122 and saidH559 to him, “ComeH1980, and I will show youH7200 the manH376 youH859 are seekingH1245.” So he went inH935 with herH413, and thereH2009 layH5307 SiseraH5516 deadH4191, with a tent pegH3489 through his templeH7541.
23On thatH1931 dayH3117 GodH430 subduedH3665 JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667 beforeH6440 the IsraelitesH1121H3478. 24And the handH3027 of the IsraelitesH1121H3478 grew strongerH1980 and strongerH7186 againstH5921 JabinH2985 kingH4428 of CanaanH3667 untilH5704 they destroyedH3772 himH2985H4428H3667.
