2That they gatheredוַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֣וּvai.yit.ka.be.TzuH6908themselves togetherיַחְדָּ֔וyach.DavH3162,to fightלְהִלָּחֵ֥םle.hi.la.ChemH3898with Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and with Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,with oneאֶחָֽד׃ פ'e.ChadH259accordפֶּ֖הpehH6310.

3And when the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵ֨יve.yo.she.VeiH3427of Gibeonגִבְע֜וֹןgiv.'onH1391heardשָׁמְע֗וּsha.me.'UH8085what Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091had doneעָשָׂ֧ה'a.SahH6213unto Jerichoלִֽירִיח֖וֹli.ri.ChoH3405and to Aiוְלָעָֽי׃ve.la.'AiH5857,

4They did workוַיַּעֲשׂ֤וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213wililyבְּעָרְמָ֔הbe.'a.re.MahH6195,and wentH3212and made as if they had been ambassadorsוַיִּצְטַיָּ֑רוּvai.yitz.tai.Ya.ruH6737,and tookוַיִּקְח֞וּvai.yik.ChuH3947oldבָּלִים֙ba.LimH1087sacksשַׂקִּ֤יםsa.KimH8242upon their donkeysלַחֲמ֣וֹרֵיהֶ֔םla.cha.Mo.rei.HemH2543,and wineיַ֙יִן֙ya.yinH3196skinsוְנֹאד֥וֹתve.no.DotH4997,oldבָּלִ֔יםba.LimH1087,and rentוּמְבֻקָּעִ֖יםu.me.vu.ka.'ImH1234,and bound upוּמְצֹרָרִֽים׃u.me.tzo.ra.RimH6887;

6And they wentH3212to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091unto the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖הha.ma.cha.NehH4264at Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֑לha.gil.GalH1537,and saidוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto him, and to the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,We be comeבָּ֔אנוּBa.nuH935from a farרְחוֹקָה֙re.cho.KahH7350countryמֵאֶ֤רֶץme.'E.retzH776:now therefore makeכִּרְתוּ־kir.tu-H3772ye a leagueבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with us.

7And the menאִֽישׁ־'ish-H376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.yo.me.ruH559unto the Hivitesהַחִוִּ֑יha.chi.ViH2340,Peradventureאוּלַ֗י'u.LaiH194ye dwellיוֹשֵׁ֔בyo.ShevH3427amongבְּקִרְבִּי֙be.kir.BiH7130us; and how shall we makeאֶֽכְרָת'ekh.rot-H3772a leagueבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with you?

8And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, We arethy servantsעֲבָדֶ֣יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650.And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto them, Who areye? and from whenceוּמֵאַ֥יִןu.me.'A.yinH370comeתָּבֹֽאוּ׃ta.Vo.'uH935ye?

11Wherefore our eldersזְֽקֵינֵינוּ֩ze.kei.nei.NuH2205and all the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֨יyo.she.VeiH3427of our countryאַרְצֵ֜נוּ'ar.Tze.nuH776spakeוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to us, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559,Takeקְח֨וּke.ChuH3947victualsצֵידָה֙tzei.DahH6720with youבְיֶדְכֶ֤םve.yed.KhemH3027for the journeyלַדֶּ֔רֶךְla.De.rekhH1870,and goH3212to meetH7125them, and sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֤םva.'a.mar.TemH559unto them, We areyour servantsעַבְדֵיכֶ֣ם'av.dei.KhemH5650:therefore now makeכִּרְתוּ־kir.tu-H3772ye a leagueבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with us.

12This our breadלַחְמֵ֗נוּlach.Me.nuH3899we took hotחָ֞םchamH2525forour provisionהִצְטַיַּ֤דְנוּhitz.tai.Yad.nuH6679out of our housesמִבָּ֣תֵּ֔ינוּmi.Ba.Tei.nuH1004on the dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117we came forthצֵאתֵ֖נוּtze.Te.nuH3318to goH3212unto you; but now, behold, it is dryיָבֵ֔שׁya.VeshH3001,and it is mouldyנִקֻּדִֽים׃ni.ku.DimH5350:

13And these skinsנֹאד֤וֹתno.DotH4997of wineהַיַּ֙יִן֙hai.Ya.yinH3196,which we filledמִלֵּ֣אנוּmi.Le.nuH4390, werenewחֲדָשִׁ֔יםcha.da.ShimH2319;and, behold, they be rentהִתְבַּקָּ֑עוּhit.ba.Ka.'uH1234:and these our garmentsשַׂלְמוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙sal.mo.Tei.nuH8008and our shoesוּנְעָלֵ֔ינוּu.ne.'a.Lei.nuH5275are become oldבָּל֕וּba.LuH1086by reason of the veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966longמֵרֹ֥בme.RoH7230journeyהַדֶּ֖רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870.

14And the menהָֽאֲנָשִׁ֖יםha.'a.na.ShimH582tookוַיִּקְח֥וּvai.yik.ChuH3947of their victualsמִצֵּידָ֑םmi.tzei.DamH6718,and askedשָׁאָֽלוּ׃sha.'A.luH7592not counselat the mouthפִּ֥יpiH6310of Yhwhיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068.

15And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091madeוַיַּ֨עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213peaceשָׁל֔וֹםsha.LomH7965with them, and madeוַיִּכְרֹ֥תvai.yikh.RotH3772a leagueבְּרִ֖יתbe.RitH1285with them, to let them liveלְחַיּוֹתָ֑םle.chai.yo.TamH2421:and the princesנְשִׂיאֵ֖יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָעֵדָֽה׃ha.'e.DahH5712swareוַיִּשָּׁבְע֣וּvai.yi.sha.ve.'UH7650unto them.

16And it came to pass at the endמִקְצֵה֙mik.TzehH7097of threeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֔יםya.MimH3117afterאַחֲרֵ֕י'a.cha.ReiH310they had madeכָּרְת֥וּka.re.TuH3772a leagueבְּרִ֑יתbe.RitH1285with them, that they heardוַֽיִּשְׁמְע֗וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085that they weretheir neighboursקְרֹבִ֥יםke.ro.VimH7138, and thatthey dweltיֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427amongוּבְקִרְבּ֖וֹu.ve.kir.BoH7130them.

18And the childrenבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478smoteהִכּוּם֙hi.KumH5221them not, because the princesנְשִׂיאֵ֣יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָֽעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712had swornנִשְׁבְּע֤וּnish.be.'UH7650unto them by Yhwhבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.And all the congregationהָעֵדָ֖הha.'e.DahH5712murmuredוַיִּלֹּ֥נוּvai.yi.Lo.nuH3885against the princesהַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ha.ne.si.'ImH5387.

19But all the princesהַנְּשִׂיאִים֙ha.ne.si.'ImH5387saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto all the congregationהָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712,We have swornנִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650unto them by Yhwhבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478:now therefore we mayנוּכַ֖לnu.KhalH3201not touchלִנְגֹּ֥עַlin.Go.a'H5060them.

20This we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֥הna.'a.SehH6213to them; we will even let them liveוְהַחֲיֵ֣הve.ha.cha.YehH2421,lest wrathקֶ֔צֶףKe.tzefH7110be upon us, because of the oathהַשְּׁבוּעָ֖הha.she.vu.'AhH7621which we swareנִשְׁבַּ֥עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650unto them.

22And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121for them, and he spakeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696unto them, sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559,Wherefore have ye beguiledרִמִּיתֶ֨םri.mi.TemH7411us, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, We areveryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966farרְחוֹקִ֨יםre.cho.KimH7350from you; when ye dwellיֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427amongבְּקִרְבֵּ֥נוּbe.kir.Be.nuH7130us?
