2that they gatheredוַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֣וּvai.yit.ka.be.TzuH6908themselves togetherH3164withoneאֶחָֽד׃ פ'e.ChadH259accordפֶּ֖הpehH6310to fightלְהִלָּחֵ֥םle.hi.la.ChemH3898with Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and with Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

3When the inhabitantsוְיֹשְׁבֵ֨יve.yo.she.VeiH3427ofGibeonגִבְע֜וֹןgiv.'onH1391heardשָׁמְע֗וּsha.me.'UH8085whatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091had doneעָשָׂ֧ה'a.SahH6213to Jerichoלִֽירִיח֖וֹli.ri.ChoH3405and to Aiוְלָעָֽי׃ve.la.'AiH5857,

5and worn-outבָּל֤וֹתba.LotH1087and patchedוּמְטֻלָּאוֹת֙u.me.tu.la.'OtH2921sandalsוּנְעָל֨וֹתu.ne.'a.LotH5275on their feetבְּרַגְלֵיהֶ֔םbe.rag.lei.HemH7272,and worn-outבָּל֖וֹתba.LotH1087clothesוּשְׂלָמ֥וֹתu.se.la.MotH8008on themselves; and allוְכֹל֙ve.KholH3605the breadלֶ֣חֶםLe.chemH3899of their provisionצֵידָ֔םtzei.DamH6718was dryיָבֵ֖שׁya.VeshH3001andhad becomeהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961crumbledנִקֻּדִֽים׃ni.ku.DimH5350.

6They wentוַיֵּלְכ֧וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091to thecampהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖הha.ma.cha.NehH4264at Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֑לha.gil.GalH1537and saidוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him and to the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “We have comeבָּ֔אנוּBa.nuH935from a farרְחוֹקָה֙re.cho.KahH7350countryמֵאֶ֤רֶץme.'E.retzH776;nowוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, makeכִּרְתוּ־kir.tu-H3772a covenantבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with us.”

7The menאִֽישׁ־'ish-H376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.yo.me.ruH559to theHivitesהַחִוִּ֑יha.chi.ViH2340, “Perhapsאוּלַ֗י'u.LaiH194you are livingיוֹשֵׁ֔בyo.ShevH3427withinH7130our landH7130;howוְאֵ֖יךְve.'EikhH349then shall we makeאֶֽכְרָת'ekh.rot-H3772a covenantבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with you?”

8But they saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “We are your servantsעֲבָדֶ֣יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650.”Then Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Whoמִ֥יmiH4310are you and whereוּמֵאַ֥יִןu.me.'A.yinH370do you comeתָּבֹֽאוּ׃ta.Vo.'uH935from?”

9They saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him, “Your servantsעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650have comeבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935froma veryמְאֹד֙me.'OdH3966farרְחוֹקָ֤הre.cho.KahH7350countryמֵאֶ֨רֶץme.'E.retzH776because of thefameלְשֵׁ֖םle.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430; forwe have heardשָׁמַ֣עְנוּsha.Ma'.nuH8085the reportשָׁמְע֔וֹsha.me.'OH8089of Him and allכָּל־kol-H3605that He didעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213in Egyptבְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃be.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,

10and allכָּל־kol-H3605that He didעָשָׂ֗ה'a.SahH6213to the twoלִשְׁנֵי֙lish.NeiH8147kingsמַלְכֵ֣יmal.KheiH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567whoH834were beyondבְּעֵ֣בֶרbe.'E.verH5676the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֑ןhai.yar.DenH3383,to Sihonלְסִיחוֹן֙le.si.chOnH5511kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Heshbonחֶשְׁבּ֔וֹןchesh.BonH2809and to Ogוּלְע֥וֹגu.le.'ogH5747kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Bashanהַבָּשָׁ֖ןha.ba.ShanH1316whoH834was at Ashtarothבְּעַשְׁתָּרֽוֹת׃be.'ash.ta.RotH6252.

11So our eldersזְֽקֵינֵינוּ֩ze.kei.nei.NuH2205and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֨יyo.she.VeiH3427of our countryאַרְצֵ֜נוּ'ar.Tze.nuH776spokeוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to us, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘Takeקְח֨וּke.ChuH3947provisionsצֵידָה֙tzei.DahH6720in your handבְיֶדְכֶ֤םve.yed.KhemH3027for the journeyלַדֶּ֔רֶךְla.De.rekhH1870,and goוּלְכ֖וּu.le.KhuH1980to meetלִקְרָאתָ֑םlik.ra.TamH7122them and sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֤םva.'a.mar.TemH559to them, “We are your servantsעַבְדֵיכֶ֣ם'av.dei.KhemH5650;nowוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258then, makeכִּרְתוּ־kir.tu-H3772a covenantבְרִֽית׃ve.RitH1285with us.”’

12Thisזֶ֣ה׀zehH2088our breadלַחְמֵ֗נוּlach.Me.nuH3899waswarmחָ֞םchamH2525whenwe tookH6719it for our provisionsH6719out of our housesמִבָּ֣תֵּ֔ינוּmi.Ba.Tei.nuH1004on the dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117that we leftצֵאתֵ֖נוּtze.Te.nuH3318to comeלָלֶ֣כֶתla.Le.khetH1980to you; but nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258beholdהִנֵּ֣הhi.NehH2009,it is dryיָבֵ֔שׁya.VeshH3001and has becomeוְהָיָ֖הve.ha.YahH1961crumbledנִקֻּדִֽים׃ni.ku.DimH5350.

13Theseוְאֵ֨לֶּהve.'E.lehH428wineskinsנֹאד֤וֹתno.DotH4997whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834we filledמִלֵּ֣אנוּmi.Le.nuH4390were newחֲדָשִׁ֔יםcha.da.ShimH2319,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֖הve.hi.NehH2009,they are tornהִתְבַּקָּ֑עוּhit.ba.Ka.'uH1234;and theseוְאֵ֤לֶּהve.'E.lehH428our clothesשַׂלְמוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙sal.mo.Tei.nuH8008and our sandalsוּנְעָלֵ֔ינוּu.ne.'a.Lei.nuH5275are wornבָּל֕וּba.LuH1086out becauseH4480of the veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966longH7231journeyהַדֶּ֖רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870.”

14So the menH376of Israeltookוַיִּקְח֥וּvai.yik.ChuH3947someH4480of their provisionsמִצֵּידָ֑םmi.tzei.DamH6718, anddid not askשָׁאָֽלוּ׃sha.'A.luH7592for thecounselפִּ֥יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068.

15Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091madeוַיַּ֨עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213peaceשָׁל֔וֹםsha.LomH7965with them and madeוַיִּכְרֹ֥תvai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantבְּרִ֖יתbe.RitH1285with them, to let them liveלְחַיּוֹתָ֑םle.chai.yo.TamH2421;and the leadersנְשִׂיאֵ֖יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָעֵדָֽה׃ha.'e.DahH5712sworeוַיִּשָּׁבְע֣וּvai.yi.sha.ve.'UH7650an oath to them.

16It cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961about at the endמִקְצֵה֙mik.TzehH7097of threeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֔יםya.MimH3117afterאַחֲרֵ֕י'a.cha.ReiH310they had madeכָּרְת֥וּka.re.TuH3772a covenantבְּרִ֑יתbe.RitH1285with them, that they heardוַֽיִּשְׁמְע֗וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085that they were neighborsקְרֹבִ֥יםke.ro.VimH7138and that they were livingיֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427withinH7130their landH7130.

17Then the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478setוַיִּסְע֣וּvai.yis.'UH5265out and cameוַיָּבֹ֛אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to their citiesעָרֵיהֶ֖ם'a.rei.HemH5892on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑יha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117.Now their citiesוְעָרֵיהֶם֙ve.'a.rei.HemH5892wereGibeonגִּבְע֣וֹןgiv.'onH1391and Chephirahוְהַכְּפִירָ֔הve.ha.ke.fi.RahH3716and Beerothוּבְאֵר֖וֹתu.ve.'e.RotH881and Kiriath-jearimH7157.

18The sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478did not strikeהִכּוּם֙hi.KumH5221them becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the leadersנְשִׂיאֵ֣יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָֽעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712had swornנִשְׁבְּע֤וּnish.be.'UH7650to them by the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.And the wholeכָל־khol-H3605congregationהָעֵדָ֖הha.'e.DahH5712grumbledוַיִּלֹּ֥נוּvai.yi.Lo.nuH3885againstעַל־'al-H5921the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ha.ne.si.'ImH5387.

19But allכָל־khol-H3605the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִים֙ha.ne.si.'ImH5387saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationהָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712, “We have swornנִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650to them by the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258we cannotלֹ֥א נוּכַ֖לlo' nu.KhalH3201 H3808touchלִנְגֹּ֥עַlin.Go.a'H5060them.

20ThisH2088we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֥הna.'a.SehH6213to them, even let them liveוְהַחֲיֵ֣הve.ha.cha.YehH2421,soוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808that wrathקֶ֔צֶףKe.tzefH7110will not be upon us for the oathהַשְּׁבוּעָ֖הha.she.vu.'AhH7621whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834we sworeנִשְׁבַּ֥עְנוּnish.Ba'.nuH7650to them.”

21The leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִ֖יםha.ne.si.'ImH5387saidוַיֹּאמְר֧וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to them, “Let them liveיִֽחְי֑וּyich.YuH2421.”So they becameוַ֠יִּֽהְיוּVai.yih.yuH1961hewersH2404of woodH2404and drawersוְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־ve.sho.'a.vei-H7579of waterמַ֙יִם֙ma.yimH4325for the wholeלְכָל־le.kholH3605congregationהָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712,justH3512as the leadersהַנְּשִׂיאִֽים׃ha.ne.si.'ImH5387had spokenדִּבְּר֥וּdi.be.RuH1696to them.

22Then Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121for them and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to them, sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Whyלָמָּה֩la.MahH4100have you deceivedרִמִּיתֶ֨םri.mi.TemH7411us, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘We are veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966farרְחוֹקִ֨יםre.cho.KimH7350from you,’when you are livingיֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427withinH7130our landH7130?

23Nowוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, you arecursedאֲרוּרִ֣ים'a.ru.RimH779, andyou shall neverוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808ceaseיִכָּרֵ֨תyi.ka.RetH3772being slavesעֶ֗בֶד'E.vedH5650,both hewersH2404of woodH2404and drawersוְשֹֽׁאֲבֵי־ve.sho.'a.vei-H7579of waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325for the houseלְבֵ֥יתle.VeitH1004of my Godאֱלֹהָֽי׃'e.lo.HaiH430.”

24So they answeredוַיַּעֲנ֨וּvai.ya.'a.NuH6030Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and saidוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “Becauseכִּי֩kiH3588it was certainlyהֻגֵּ֨דhu.GedH5046toldהֻגַּ֤דhu.GadH5046your servantsלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙la.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650that the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430had commandedצִוָּ֜הtzi.VahH6680His servantעַבְדּ֔וֹav.DoH5650Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872to giveלָתֵ֤תla.TetH5414you allכָּל־kol-H3605the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,and to destroyוּלְהַשְׁמִ֛ידu.le.hash.MidH8045allכָּל־kol-H3605the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776beforeמִפְּנֵיכֶ֑םmi.pe.nei.KhemH4480 H6440you; therefore we fearedוַנִּירָ֨אva.ni.Ra'H3372greatlyמְאֹ֤דme.'OdH3966for our livesלְנַפְשֹׁתֵ֙ינוּ֙le.naf.sho.Tei.nuH5315becauseמִפְּנֵיכֶ֔םmi.pe.nei.KhemH4480 H6440of you, and have doneוַֽנַּעֲשֵׂ֖הva.na.'a.SehH6213thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697.

25Nowוְעַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH6258beholdH2009,we are in your handsבְיָדֶ֑ךָve.ya.De.khaH3027;doלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213as it seems goodכַּטּ֨וֹבka.TovH2896and rightוְכַיָּשָׁ֧רve.khai.ya.SharH3477in your sightבְּעֵינֶ֛יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869to doעֲשֵֽׂה׃'a.SehH6213to us.”

26Thusכֵּ֑ןKenH3651he didוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213to them, and deliveredוַיַּצֵּ֥לvai.ya.TzelH5337them from the handsמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and they did not killהֲרָגֽוּם׃ha.ra.GumH2026them.

27But Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091madeוַיִּתְּנֵ֨םvai.yi.te.NemH5414them that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117hewersH2404of woodH2404and drawersוְשֹׁ֥אֲבֵיve.Sho.'a.veiH7579of waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325for the congregationלָֽעֵדָ֑הla.'e.DahH5712and for the altarוּלְמִזְבַּ֤חu.le.miz.BachH4196of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,to thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117,in the placeהַמָּק֖וֹםha.ma.KomH4725whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He would chooseיִבְחָֽר׃ פyiv.CharH977.
