Isaac Is Born
11Then the LordH3068 tookH6485 noteH6485 of SarahH8283 as He had saidH559, and the LordH3068 didH6213 for SarahH8283 as He had 2promisedH1696. 23So SarahH8283 conceivedH2029 and boreH3205 a sonH1121 to AbrahamH85 in his oldH2208 ageH2208, at 4the appointedH4150 timeH4150 of whichH834 GodH430 had spokenH1696 to him. 3AbrahamH85 namedH7121H8034 his sonH1121 who was bornH3205 to him, the son whomH834 SarahH8283 boreH3205 to him, 5IsaacH3327. 4Then AbrahamH85 circumcisedH4135 his sonH1121 IsaacH3327 when he was 6eightH8083 daysH3117 oldH1121, as GodH430 had commandedH6680 him. 5Now AbrahamH85 was 7a hundredH3967 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when his sonH1121 IsaacH3327 was bornH3205 to him. 6SarahH8283 saidH559, “GodH430 has madeH6213 8laughterH6712 for me; everyoneH3605 who hearsH8085 will laughH6711 9with me.” 7And she saidH559, “10WhoH4310 would have saidH559 to AbrahamH85 that SarahH8283 would nurseH3243 childrenH1121? YetH3588 I have givenH3205 birthH3205 to a sonH1121 in his oldH2208 ageH2208.”
8And the childH3206 grewH1431 and was weanedH1580, and AbrahamH85 heldH6213 a greatH1419 feastH4960 on the dayH3117 that IsaacH3327 was weanedH1580.
Sarah Turns against Hagar
9Now SarahH8283 sawH7200 11the sonH1121 of HagarH1904 the EgyptianH4713, whomH834 she had borneH3205 to AbrahamH85, 12mockingH6711 Isaac. 10Therefore she saidH559 to AbrahamH85, “13DriveH1644 outH1644 thisH2088 slaveH519 womanH519 and her sonH1121, for the sonH1121 of thisH2088 slaveH519 womanH519 shall not beH3423 anH3423 heirH3423 with my sonH1121 14IsaacH3327!” 1115The matterH1697 16distressedH7489 AbrahamH85 greatlyH3966 becauseH5921H182 of his sonH1121 Ishmael. 12But GodH430 saidH559 to AbrahamH85, “17Do not be distressedH7489 becauseH5921 of the boyH5288 and your slaveH519 womanH519; whateverH3605H834 SarahH8283 tellsH559 you, listenH8085 to her, for 18throughH4480 IsaacH3327 19your descendantsH2233 shall be namedH7121. 13And of 20the sonH1121 of the slaveH519 womanH519 I will makeH7760 a nationH1471 alsoH1571, becauseH3588 he is your 21descendantH2233.” 14So AbrahamH85 gotH7925 upH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 and tookH3947 breadH3899 and a 22skinH2573 of waterH4325, and gaveH5414 them to HagarH1904, puttingH7760 them on her shoulderH7926, and gave her the boyH3206, and sentH7971 her awayH7971. And she departedH1980 and wanderedH8582 aboutH8582 in the wildernessH4057 of BeershebaH884.
15When the waterH4325 in the skinH2573 was usedH3615 upH3615, she 23leftH7993 the boyH3206 underH8478 oneH259 of the bushesH7880. 16Then she wentH1980 and satH3427 downH3427 oppositeH4480H5048 him, about a bowshotH2909H7198 awayH7368, for she saidH559, “May I not 24seeH7200 the boyH3206 dieH4194!” And she satH3427 oppositeH4480H5048 him, and 25raisedH5375 her voiceH6963 and weptH1058. 17GodH430 26heardH8085 the boyH5288 cryingH6963; and the angelH4397 of GodH430 calledH7121 to HagarH1904 from heavenH8064 and saidH559 to her, “27WhatH4100 is the matter with you, HagarH1904? 28Do not fearH3372, for GodH430 has heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the boyH5288 whereH834H8033 he is. 18GetH6965 upH6965, liftH5375 upH5375 the boyH5288, and holdH2388 him by 29the handH3027, 30for I will makeH7760 a greatH1419 nationH1471 of him.” 19Then GodH430 31openedH6491 her eyesH5869, and she sawH7200 32a wellH875 of waterH4325; and she wentH1980 and filledH4390 the 33skinH2573 with waterH4325 and gaveH8248 the boyH5288 aH8248 drinkH8248.
20And 34GodH430 was with the boyH5288, and he grewH1431; and he livedH3427 in the wildernessH4057 and becameH1961 an archerH7235H7199. 2135He livedH3427 in the wildernessH4057 of ParanH6290, and his motherH517 tookH3947 a wifeH802 for him from the landH776 of EgyptH4714.
Covenant with Abimelech
22Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961 at that timeH6256 that 36AbimelechH40 and PhicolH6369, the commanderH8269 of his armyH6635, spokeH559 to AbrahamH85, sayingH559, “37GodH430 is with you in allH3605 that you doH6213; 23so nowH6258, 38swearH7650 to me hereH2008 by GodH430 that you will not dealH8266 falselyH8266 with me or with my offspringH5209 or with my descendantsH5220, but according to the kindnessH2617 that I have shownH6213 to you, you shall showH6213 to me and to the landH776 in whichH834 you have residedH1481.” 24AbrahamH85 saidH559, “I swearH7650 it.” 25But AbrahamH85 39complainedH3198 to AbimelechH40 becauseH5921H182 of the wellH875 of waterH4325 whichH834 the servantsH5650 of AbimelechH40 40had seizedH1497. 26And AbimelechH40 saidH559, “I do not knowH3045 whoH4310 has doneH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697; you did not tellH5046 me, norH1571H3808 did I hearH8085 of it 41untilH1115 todayH3117.”
27So AbrahamH85 tookH3947 sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 and gaveH5414 them to AbimelechH40, and 42the twoH8147 of them madeH3772 a covenantH1285. 28But AbrahamH85 setH5324 sevenH7651 eweH3535 lambsH3535 of the flockH6629 byH905 themselvesH905. 29Then AbimelechH40 saidH559 to AbrahamH85, “WhatH4100 do theseH428 sevenH7651 eweH3535 lambsH3535 mean, whichH834 you have setH5324 byH905 themselvesH905?” 30He saidH559, “You shall takeH3947 these sevenH7651 eweH3535 lambsH3535 from my handH3027 soH5668 thatH5668 it may be a 43witnessH5713 for me, that I dugH2658 thisH2088 wellH875.” 31ThereforeH5921H3651 he calledH7121 that placeH4725 4445BeershebaH884, becauseH3588 thereH8033 the twoH8147 of them tookH7650 anH7650 oathH7650. 32So they madeH3772 a covenantH1285 at BeershebaH884; and AbimelechH40 and PhicolH6369, the commanderH8269 of his armyH6635, gotH6965 upH6965 and returnedH7725 to the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430. 33Abraham plantedH5193 a tamariskH815 treeH815 at BeershebaH884, and thereH8033 46he calledH7121 on the nameH8034 of the LordH3068, the 47EverlastingH5769 GodH410. 34And AbrahamH85 residedH1481 48in the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 for manyH7227 daysH3117.
