Ahaz Reigns over Judah

1In the seventeenthH7651H6240 yearH8141 of PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, 1AhazH271 the sonH1121 of JothamH3147, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, becameH4427 kingH4427. 22AhazH271 was twentyH6242 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 for sixteenH8337H6240 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and he did not doH6213 whatH3477 wasH3477 rightH3477 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 his GodH430, as his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had done. 3But he walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, 3and he evenH1571 made his sonH1121 passH5674 through the fireH784, 4in accordance with the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 whomH834 the LordH3068 had 5drivenH3423 outH3423 beforeH6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 4And he 6sacrificedH2076 and burnedH6999 incenseH6999 on the highH1116 placesH1116, on the hillsH1389, and underH8478 everyH3605 greenH7488 treeH6086.

5ThenH227 7RezinH7526 the kingH4428 of AramH758 and PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, wentH5927 upH5927 to JerusalemH3389 for warH4421; and they besiegedH6696H5921 AhazH271, 8but 9wereH3201 not capableH3201 of fightingH3898 him. 6At that timeH6256 RezinH7526 kingH4428 of AramH758 restoredH7725 10ElathH365 to AramH758, and droveH5394 the JudeansH3064 awayH5394 from 11ElathH359; and the 12ArameansH130 cameH935 to ElathH365 and have livedH3427 thereH8033 to thisH2088 dayH3117.

Ahaz Seeks Help of Assyria

713So AhazH271 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to 14Tiglath-pileserH8407 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, sayingH559, “I am your servantH5650 and your sonH1121; comeH5927 upH5927 and saveH3467 me from the 15handH3709 of the kingH4428 of AramH758, and from the 16handH3709 of the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, who are risingH6965 upH6965 againstH5921 me.” 8And 17AhazH271 tookH3947 the silverH3701 and goldH2091 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 and in the treasuriesH214 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and sentH7971 a giftH7810 to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. 918So the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 listenedH8085 to him; and the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 wentH5927 upH5927 againstH413 DamascusH1834 and 19capturedH8610 it, and ledH1540 the people of it intoH1540 exileH1540 to 20KirH7024, and putH4191 RezinH7526 toH4191 deathH4191.

10Now KingH4428 AhazH271 wentH1980 to DamascusH1834 to meetH7122 21Tiglath-pileserH8407 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and he sawH7200 the altarH4196 whichH834 was at DamascusH1834; and KingH4428 AhazH271 sentH7971 to 22UrijahH223 the priestH3548 the 23patternH1823 of the altarH4196 and its modelH8403, according to allH3605 its workmanshipH4639. 11So UrijahH223 the priestH3548 builtH1129 an altarH4196; according to everythingH3605 that KingH4428 AhazH271 had sentH7971 from DamascusH1834, inH3651 thatH3651 wayH3651 UrijahH223 the priestH3548 madeH6213 it, 24beforeH5704 the comingH935 of KingH4428 AhazH271 from DamascusH1834. 12And when the kingH4428 cameH935 from DamascusH1834, the kingH4428 sawH7200 the altarH4196; then 25the kingH4428 approachedH7126 the altarH4196 and 26wentH5927 upH5927 to it, 13and 27burnedH6999 his burntH5930 offeringH5930 and his mealH4503 offeringH4503, and pouredH5258 outH5258 his 28drinkH5262 offeringH5262 and sprinkledH2236 the bloodH1818 of his peaceH8002 offeringsH8002 on the altarH4196. 14And 29the bronzeH5178 altarH4196, whichH834 was beforeH6440 the LordH3068, 30he broughtH7126 from the frontH6440 of the houseH1004, from betweenH996 31his altarH4196 and the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and he putH5414 it on the northH6828 sideH3409 of his altarH4196. 15Then KingH4428 AhazH271 commandedH6680 UrijahH223 the priestH3548, sayingH559, “Upon the greatH1419 altarH4196 32burnH6999 33the morningH1242 burntH5930 offeringH5930, the eveningH6153 mealH4503 offeringH4503, the king’sH4428 burntH5930 offeringH5930 and his mealH4503 offeringH4503, with the burntH5930 offeringH5930 of allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776, their mealH4503 offeringH4503, and their 34drinkH5262 offeringsH5262; and sprinkleH2236 on it allH3605 the bloodH1818 of the burntH5930 offeringH5930 and allH3605 the bloodH1818 of the sacrificeH2077. But 35the bronzeH5178 altarH4196 shall be for me, for makingH1239 inquiriesH1239.” 16So UrijahH223 the priestH3548 actedH6213 in accordance with everythingH3605 that KingH4428 AhazH271 commandedH6680.

17Then KingH4428 AhazH271 36cutH7112 offH7112 the bordersH4526 of the standsH4350, and removedH5493 the washH3595 basinH3595 from them; he also 37tookH3381 downH3381 the 38SeaH3220 from the bronzeH5178 oxenH1241 whichH834 were underH8478 it and putH5414 it on a pavementH4837 of stoneH68. 18And the coveredH4146 wayH4146 for the SabbathH7676 whichH834 they had builtH1129 in the houseH1004, and the outerH2435 entryH3996 of the kingH4428, he removedH5437 from the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 becauseH4480H6440 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804.
