1Then it cameH1961aboutH1961afterwardאַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵ֗ן'a.cha.rei- KhenH310 H3651thatDavidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַל֩vai.yish.'AlH7592of the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֤ה׀ba.Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, “Shall I goהַאֶעֱלֶ֗הha.'e.'e.LehH5927upH5927to oneבְּאַחַת֙be.'a.ChatH259of the citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063?”And the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Goעֲלֵ֑ה'a.LehH5927upH5927.”So Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whereאָ֥נָה'A.nahH575shall I goאֶעֱלֶ֖ה'e.'e.LehH5927upH5927?”And He saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “To Hebronחֶבְרֹֽנָה׃chev.Ro.nahH2275.”

2So Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732wentH5927upH5927thereשָׁם֙shamH8033, andhis twoשְׁתֵּ֣יshe.TeiH8147wivesנָשָׁ֑יוna.ShavH802alsoוְגַ֖םve.GamH1571,Ahinoamאֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙'a.chi.No.'amH293the JezreelitessH3159and Abigailוַאֲבִיגַ֕יִלva.'a.vi.Ga.yilH26thewidowאֵ֖שֶׁת'E.shetH802of Nabalנָבָ֥לna.ValH5037the Carmeliteהַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי׃Ha.kar.me.LiH3761.

3AndDavidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732broughtH5927upH5927his menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834werewith him, eachH376with his householdוּבֵית֑וֹu.vei.ToH1004;and they settledוַיֵּשְׁב֖וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427in the citiesבְּעָרֵ֥יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Hebronחֶבְרֽוֹן׃chev.RonH2275.

4Then the menH376of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935,and thereשָׁ֧םshamH8033theyanointedוַיִּמְשְׁחוּ־vai.yim.she.chu-H4886Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063.And they toldוַיַּגִּ֤דוּvai.ya.Gi.duH5046Davidלְדָוִד֙le.da.VidH1732,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “It wasthe menH376of Jabesh-gileadיָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֔דya.Veish gil.'AdH3003 H1568whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834buriedקָבְר֖וּka.ve.RuH6912Saulשָׁאֽוּל׃ סsha.'UlH7586.”

5So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to the menH376of Jabesh-gileadיָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑דya.Veish gil.'AdH3003 H1568,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “May you be blessedבְּרֻכִ֤יםbe.ru.KhimH1288of the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068becauseאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834you haveshownעֲשִׂיתֶ֜ם'a.si.TemH6213thisהַזֶּ֗הha.ZehH2088kindnessהַחֶ֣סֶדha.Che.sedH2617to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586your lordאֲדֹֽנֵיכֶם֙'a.do.nei.KhemH113,and have buriedוַֽתִּקְבְּר֖וּva.tik.be.RuH6912him.

6And nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258may the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068showיַֽעַשׂ־ya.'as-H6213kindnessחֶ֣סֶדChe.sedH2617and truthוֶאֱמֶ֑תve.'e.MetH571to you; and I alsoוְגַ֣םve.GamH1571willshowאֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה'e.'e.SehH6213thisH2088goodnessH2899to you, becauseאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have doneעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם'a.si.TemH6213thisH2088thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697.

7Nowוְעַתָּ֣ה׀ve.'a.TahH6258then, let your handsיְדֵיכֶ֗םye.dei.KhemH3027be strongתֶּחֱזַ֣קְנָהte.che.Zak.nahH2388and bevaliantלִבְנֵי־ חַ֔יִלliv.nei- Cha.yilH1121 H2428,sinceכִּי־ki-H3588Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586your lordאֲדֹנֵיכֶ֣ם'a.do.nei.KhemH113is deadמֵ֖תmetH4191,and alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Judahיְהוּדָ֛הye.hu.DahH3063has anointedמָשְׁח֧וּma.she.ChuH4886me kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ פ'a.lei.HemH5921them.”

8ButAbnerוְאַבְנֵ֣רve.'av.NerH74the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵ֔רNerH5369,commanderשַׂר־sar-H8269of Saul’sלְשָׁא֑וּלle.sha.'UlH7586armyצָבָ֖אtza.Va'H6635,had takenלָקַ֗חla.KachH3947Ish-boshethH378the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586and broughtH5674him overH5674toMahanaimמַחֲנָֽיִם׃ma.cha.Na.yimH4266.

9And he madeH4427him kingוַיַּמְלִכֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yam.li.Khe.huH4427overאֶל־'el-H413Gileadהַגִּלְעָ֔דha.gil.'AdH1568,overוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413theAshuritesהָאֲשׁוּרִ֖יha.'a.shu.RiH805,overוְאֶֽל־ve.'el-H413Jezreelיִזְרְעֶ֑אלyiz.re.'ElH3157,overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921Ephraimאֶפְרַ֙יִם֙'ef.Ra.yimH669,and overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֔ןbin.ya.MinH1144,even overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921allכֻּלֹּֽה׃ פku.LohH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

10Ish-boshethH378,Saul’sשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,was fortyאַרְבָּעִ֨ים'ar.ba.'ImH705yearsשָׁנָ֜הsha.NahH8141oldבֶּן־ben-H1121when he becameH4427kingH4427overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and he wasH4427kingH4427for twoוּשְׁתַּ֥יִםu.she.Ta.yimH8147yearsשָׁנִ֖יםsha.NimH8141.The houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,howeverאַ֚ךְ'akhH389,followedהָי֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥יha.Yu 'a.cha.ReiH1961 H310Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

12Now Abnerאַבְנֵ֣ר'av.NerH74the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵ֔רNerH5369,wentוַיֵּצֵא֙vai.ye.Tze'H3318from Mahanaimמִֽמַּחֲנַ֖יִםmi.ma.cha.Na.yimH4266toGibeonגִּבְעֽוֹנָה׃giv.'o.nahH1391with the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֖יve.'av.DeiH5650of Ish-boshethH378the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586.

13AndJoabוְיוֹאָ֨בve.yo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֜הtze.ru.YahH6870and the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֤יve.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732wentH3318outH3318and metוַֽיִּפְגְּשׁ֛וּםvai.yif.ge.ShumH6298them by the poolבְּרֵכַ֥תbe.re.KhatH1295of Gibeonגִּבְע֖וֹןgiv.'onH1391;and they satH3427downוַיֵּ֨שְׁב֜וּvai.Ye.she.VuH3427, Abner’s menon the oneH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָה֙ha.be.re.KhahH1295andJoab’s men on the otherH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָ֖הha.be.re.KhahH1295.

14Then Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097, “Nowנָא֙na'H4994have the youngהַנְּעָרִ֔יםha.ne.'a.RimH5288menH5288ariseיָק֤וּמוּya.Ku.muH6965andholdH7832aH7832martialH7832skillsH7832matchH7832in our presenceלְפָנֵ֑ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440.”And Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Have them ariseיָקֻֽמוּ׃ya.Ku.muH6965!”

15So they gotH6965upH6965and wentH5674overH5674by countבְמִסְפָּ֑רve.mis.ParH4557,twelveשְׁנֵ֧ים עָשָׂ֣רshe.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240for Benjaminלְבִנְיָמִ֗ןle.vin.ya.MinH1144and Ish-boshethH378the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586,and twelveוּשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖רu.she.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240from the servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

16And eachH376oneH376of them seizedוַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּvai.ya.cha.Zi.kuH2388hisopponentרֵעֵ֗הוּre.'E.huH7453by the headבְּרֹ֣אשׁbe.RoshH7218and thrusthis swordוְחַרְבּוֹ֙ve.char.BoH2719in hisopponent’sרֵעֵ֔הוּre.'E.huH7453sideבְּצַ֣דbe.TzadH6654;so they fellH5307downH5307togetherH3164.Therefore that placeלַמָּק֣וֹםla.ma.KomH4725was calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121Helkath-hazzurimH2521,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is in Gibeonבְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃be.giv.'onH1391.

17That dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117the battleהַמִּלְחָמָ֛הha.mil.cha.MahH4421was veryמְאֹ֖דme.'OdH3966severeקָשָׁ֥הka.ShahH7186, andAbnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74and the menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478were defeatedוַיִּנָּ֤גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062by the servantsעַבְדֵ֥י'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

18Nowthe threeשְׁלֹשָׁה֙she.lo.ShahH7969sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֔הtze.ru.YahH6870were thereשָׁ֗םShamH8033,Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097,Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֖יva.'a.vi.ShaiH52,and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵ֑לva.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214;and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵל֙va.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214was asswift-footedקַ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֔יוkal be.rag.LavH7031 H7272as oneכְּאַחַ֥דke.'a.ChadH259of the gazellesהַצְּבָיִ֖םha.tze.va.YimH6643that is in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ba.sa.DehH7704.
