2Previouslyאֶתְמ֣וֹל שִׁלְשׁ֗וֹם'et.Mol shil.ShomH1571 H865 H8032,when Saulשָׁא֥וּלsha.'UlH7586was kingמֶ֙לֶךְ֙Me.lekhH4428overעָלֵ֔ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921us,you were the one who ledהַמּוֹצִ֥יאha.mo.tzi'H3318Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478out and in. 5At Hebronבְּחֶבְרוֹן֙be.chev.rOnH2275he reignedמָלַ֣ךְma.LakhH4427overעַל־'al-H5921Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063for sevenשֶׁ֥בַעShe.va'H7651yearsשָׁנִ֖יםsha.NimH8141and sixוְשִׁשָּׁ֣הve.shi.ShahH8337monthsחֳדָשִׁ֑יםcho.da.ShimH2320,and in Jerusalemוּבִירוּשָׁלִַ֣םu.vi.ru.sha.LimH3389he reignedמָלַ֗ךְma.LakhH4427for thirty-threeשְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים וְשָׁלֹשׁ֙she.lo.Shim ve.sha.LoshH7970 H7969yearsשָׁנָ֔הsha.NahH8141overעַ֥ל'alH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and Judahוִיהוּדָֽה׃vi.hu.DahH3063.

6Now the kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and his menH376wentוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980toJerusalemיְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םye.Ru.sha.LimH3389againstאֶל־'el-H413the Jebusitesהַיְבֻסִ֖יhay.vu.SiH2983,the inhabitantsיוֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776;and they saidH559toDavidלְדָוִ֤דle.da.VidH1732, “You shall not comeH935inH935hereהֵ֔נָּהHe.nahH2008, but eventhose who are blindהַעִוְרִ֤יםha.'iv.RimH5787and those who limpוְהַפִּסְחִים֙ve.ha.pis.ChimH6455will turnהֱסִֽירְךָ֗he.si.re.KhaH5493you awayH5493,”thinkingH559, “Davidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732cannotH3808enterH935hereהֵֽנָּה׃He.nahH2008.”

7Nevertheless, Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732capturedוַיִּלְכֹּ֣דvai.yil.KodH3920the strongholdמְצֻדַ֣תme.tzu.DatH4686of Zionצִיּ֑וֹןtzi.YonH6726, that is,the cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.

8And Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117, “Whoeverכָּל־kol-H3605strikesמַכֵּ֤הma.KehH5221the Jebusitesיְבֻסִי֙ye.vu.SiH2983is to reachוְיִגַּ֣עve.yi.Ga'H5060those who limpH6455and those who are blindH5787,who are hatedשְׂנֻאֵ֖יse.novH8130by David’sדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732soulנֶ֣פֶשׁNe.feshH5315,through the waterH6794tunnelH6794.”For thatH3651reasonH3651they sayיֹֽאמְר֔וּyo.me.RuH559, “PeopleH5787who are blindH5787and peopleH6455who limpH6455shall not comeיָב֖וֹאya.Vo'H935into the houseהַבָּֽיִת׃ha.Ba.yitH1004.”

9So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732livedוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the strongholdבַּמְּצֻדָ֔הba.me.tzu.DahH4686,and calledוַיִּקְרָא־vai.yik.ra'-H7121itthe cityעִ֣יר'irH5892of Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732.And Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732builtוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129allH5439aroundH5439from theMilloהַמִּלּ֖וֹאha.mi.Lo'H4407and inwardוָבָֽיְתָה׃va.Va.ye.tahH1004.

10Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732becameוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980greaterהָל֣וֹךְha.LokhH1980and greaterH1419,for the Lordוַיהוָ֛הva.Yah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of armiesצְבָא֖וֹתtze.va.'otH6635was with him.

11Then Hiramחִירָ֨םchi.RamH2438kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Tyreצֹ֥רtzorH6865sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397to Davidדָּוִד֒da.VidH1732with cedarאֲרָזִ֔ים'a.ra.ZimH730treesוַעֲצֵ֣יva.'a.TzeiH6086,carpentersוְחָרָשֵׁ֣י עֵ֔ץve.cha.ra.Shei 'EtzH2796 H6086, andstonemasonsוְחָֽרָשֵׁ֖י אֶ֣בֶןve.cha.ra.Shei 'E.venH2796 H68; andthey builtוַיִּבְנֽוּ־vai.yiv.nu-H1129a houseבַ֖יִתVa.yitH1004for Davidלְדָוִֽד׃le.da.VidH1732.

12And Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732realizedוַיֵּ֣דַעvai.Ye.da'H3045that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068had appointedהֱכִינ֧וֹhe.khi.NoH3559him as kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and that He had exaltedנִשֵּׂ֣אni.Se'H5375his kingdomמַמְלַכְתּ֔וֹmam.lakh.ToH4467for the sakeבַּעֲב֖וּרba.'a.VurH5668of His peopleעַמּ֥וֹa.MoH5971Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סYis.ra.'ElH3478.

13MeanwhileDavidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947moreע֜וֹדodH5750concubinesפִּֽלַגְשִׁ֤יםpi.lag.ShimH6370and wivesוְנָשִׁים֙ve.na.ShimH802from Jerusalemמִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םmi.Ru.sha.LimH3389,afterאַחֲרֵ֖י'a.cha.ReiH310he cameבֹּא֣וֹbo.'OH935from Hebronמֵחֶבְר֑וֹןme.chev.RonH2275;and moreע֛וֹדodH5750sonsבָּנִ֥יםba.NimH1121and daughtersוּבָנֽוֹת׃u.va.NotH1323were bornוַיִּוָּ֥לְדּוּvai.yi.Val.duH3205to Davidלְדָוִ֖דle.da.VidH1732.

14Nowtheseוְאֵ֗לֶּהve.'E.lehH428are the namesשְׁמ֛וֹתshe.MotH8034of those who were bornהַיִּלֹּדִ֥יםhai.yi.lo.DimH3209to him in Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑םbi.ru.sha.LimH3389:Shammuaשַׁמּ֣וּעַsha.Mu.a'H8051,Shobabוְשׁוֹבָ֔בve.sho.VavH7727,Nathanוְנָתָ֖ןve.na.TanH5416,Solomonוּשְׁלֹמֹֽה׃u.she.lo.MohH8010,

17Now when the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085that they had anointedמָשְׁח֨וּma.she.ChuH4886Davidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732kingלְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙le.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,allכָל־khol-H3605the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםpe.lish.TimH6430wentH5927upH5927to seekלְבַקֵּ֣שׁle.va.KeshH1245outH1245Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732;and when Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085about it,he wentH3381downוַיֵּ֖רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381to thestrongholdהַמְּצוּדָֽה׃ha.me.tzu.DahH4686.

18Now the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430cameבָּ֑אוּBa.'uH935and overranוַיִּנָּטְשׁ֖וּvai.yi.na.te.ShuH5203the Valleyבְּעֵ֥מֶקbe.'E.mekH6010of Rephaimרְפָאִֽים׃re.fa.'ImH7497.

19SoDavidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֨לvai.yish.'AlH7592of the Lordבַּֽיהוָה֙ba.Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Shall I goהַאֶֽעֱלֶה֙ha.'e.'e.LehH5927upH5927againstH413the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430?Will You handבְּיָדִ֑יbe.ya.DiH5414 H3027them overH5414to me?” Andthe Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732, “Goעֲלֵ֔ה'a.LehH5927upH5927,for I will certainlyH5414handבְּיָדֶֽךָ׃be.ya.De.khaH5414 H3027the Philistinesהַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםha.pe.lish.TimH6430overH5414to you.”

20Then DavidH1732cameוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935toBaal-perazimH1188anddefeatedוַיַּכֵּ֣םvai.ya.KemH5221them thereשָׁ֣םshamH8033;and he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “The Lordיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068has brokenH6555throughH6555my enemiesH340beforeלְפָנַ֖יle.fa.NaiH6440me like the breakthroughכְּפֶ֣רֶץke.Fe.retzH6556of watersמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325.”Thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֗ן'al- KenH5921 H3651he namedקָרָ֛א שֵֽׁם־ka.Ra' shem-H7121 H8034that placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH4725Baal-perazimH1188.

21And the Philistinesabandonedוַיַּעַזְבוּ־vai.ya.'az.vu-H5800their idolsעֲצַבֵּיהֶ֑ם'a.tza.bei.HemH6091thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033, soDavidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732and his menH376carriedוַיִּשָּׂאֵ֥םvai.yi.sa.'EmH5375them away.

22Nowthe Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםpe.lish.TimH6430cameH5927upH5927onceע֛וֹדodH3254 H5750againH3254and overranוַיִּנָּֽטְשׁ֖וּvai.yi.na.te.ShuH5203the Valleyבְּעֵ֥מֶקbe.'E.mekH6010of Rephaimרְפָאִֽים׃re.fa.'ImH7497.

23SoDavidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֤לvai.yish.'AlH7592of the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֔הba.Yah.wehH3068,but He saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You shall not goתַעֲלֶ֑הta.'a.LehH5927directlyupH5927;circleH5437aroundH5437behindאַ֣חֲרֵיהֶ֔ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them and comeוּבָ֥אתָu.Va.taH935at them in frontמִמּ֥וּלmi.MulH4136of the baka-shrubsבְּכָאִֽים׃be.kha.'ImH1057.

24And it shall be, whenyou hearכְּֽשָׁמְעֲךָ֞ke.sha.me.'a.khaH8085the soundק֧וֹלKolH6963of marchingצְעָדָ֛הtze.'a.DahH6807in the topsבְּרָאשֵׁ֥יbe.ra.SheiH7218of the baka-shrubsהַבְּכָאִ֖יםha.be.kha.'ImH1057,thenאָ֣ז'azH227you shallactH2782promptlyH2782,for thenאָ֗ז'AzH227the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068will have goneH3318outH3318beforeלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you to strikeלְהַכּ֖וֹתle.ha.KotH5221the armyבְּמַחֲנֵ֥הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃fe.lish.TimH6430.”
