2So Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732wentH5927upH5927thereשָׁם֙shamH8033, andhis twoשְׁתֵּ֣יshe.TeiH8147wivesנָשָׁ֑יוna.ShavH802alsoוְגַ֖םve.GamH1571,Ahinoamאֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙'a.chi.No.'amH293the JezreelitessH3159and Abigailוַאֲבִיגַ֕יִלva.'a.vi.Ga.yilH26thewidowאֵ֖שֶׁת'E.shetH802of Nabalנָבָ֥לna.ValH5037the Carmeliteהַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי׃Ha.kar.me.LiH3761.

5So Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to the menH376of Jabesh-gileadיָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑דya.Veish gil.'AdH3003H1568,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “May you be blessedבְּרֻכִ֤יםbe.ru.KhimH1288of the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068becauseאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834you haveshownעֲשִׂיתֶ֜ם'a.si.TemH6213thisהַזֶּ֗הha.ZehH2088kindnessהַחֶ֣סֶדha.Che.sedH2617to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586your lordאֲדֹֽנֵיכֶם֙'a.do.nei.KhemH113,and have buriedוַֽתִּקְבְּר֖וּva.tik.be.RuH6912him.
6And nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258may the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068showיַֽעַשׂ־ya.'as-H6213kindnessחֶ֣סֶדChe.sedH2617and truthוֶאֱמֶ֑תve.'e.MetH571to you; and I alsoוְגַ֣םve.GamH1571willshowאֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה'e.'e.SehH6213thisH2088goodnessH2899to you, becauseאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have doneעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם'a.si.TemH6213thisH2088thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697.

9And he madeH4427him kingוַיַּמְלִכֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yam.li.Khe.huH4427overאֶל־'el-H413Gileadהַגִּלְעָ֔דha.gil.'AdH1568,overוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413theAshuritesהָאֲשׁוּרִ֖יha.'a.shu.RiH805,overוְאֶֽל־ve.'el-H413Jezreelיִזְרְעֶ֑אלyiz.re.'ElH3157,overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921Ephraimאֶפְרַ֙יִם֙'ef.Ra.yimH669,and overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֔ןbin.ya.MinH1144,even overוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921allכֻּלֹּֽה׃ פku.LohH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

13AndJoabוְיוֹאָ֨בve.yo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֜הtze.ru.YahH6870and the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֤יve.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732wentH3318outH3318and metוַֽיִּפְגְּשׁ֛וּםvai.yif.ge.ShumH6298them by the poolבְּרֵכַ֥תbe.re.KhatH1295of Gibeonגִּבְע֖וֹןgiv.'onH1391;and they satH3427downוַיֵּ֨שְׁב֜וּvai.Ye.she.VuH3427, Abner’s menon the oneH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָה֙ha.be.re.KhahH1295andJoab’s men on the otherH2088sideH2088of the poolהַבְּרֵכָ֖הha.be.re.KhahH1295.
14Then Abnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097, “Nowנָא֙na'H4994have the youngהַנְּעָרִ֔יםha.ne.'a.RimH5288menH5288ariseיָק֤וּמוּya.Ku.muH6965andholdH7832aH7832martialH7832skillsH7832matchH7832in our presenceלְפָנֵ֑ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440.”And Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Have them ariseיָקֻֽמוּ׃ya.Ku.muH6965!”
15So they gotH6965upH6965and wentH5674overH5674by countבְמִסְפָּ֑רve.mis.ParH4557,twelveשְׁנֵ֧ים עָשָׂ֣רshe.Neim 'a.SarH8147H6240for Benjaminלְבִנְיָמִ֗ןle.vin.ya.MinH1144and Ish-boshethH378the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586,and twelveוּשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖רu.she.Neim 'a.SarH8147H6240from the servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.
16And eachH376oneH376of them seizedוַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּvai.ya.cha.Zi.kuH2388hisopponentרֵעֵ֗הוּre.'E.huH7453by the headבְּרֹ֣אשׁbe.RoshH7218and thrusthis swordוְחַרְבּוֹ֙ve.char.BoH2719in hisopponent’sרֵעֵ֔הוּre.'E.huH7453sideבְּצַ֣דbe.TzadH6654;so they fellH5307downH5307togetherH3164.Therefore that placeלַמָּק֣וֹםla.ma.KomH4725was calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121Helkath-hazzurimH2521,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is in Gibeonבְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃be.giv.'onH1391.
17That dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117the battleהַמִּלְחָמָ֛הha.mil.cha.MahH4421was veryמְאֹ֖דme.'OdH3966severeקָשָׁ֥הka.ShahH7186, andAbnerאַבְנֵר֙'av.NerH74and the menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478were defeatedוַיִּנָּ֤גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062by the servantsעַבְדֵ֥י'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732.
18Nowthe threeשְׁלֹשָׁה֙she.lo.ShahH7969sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֔הtze.ru.YahH6870were thereשָׁ֗םShamH8033,Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097,Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֖יva.'a.vi.ShaiH52,and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵ֑לva.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214;and Asahelוַעֲשָׂהאֵל֙va.'a.sa.h.'ElH6214was asswift-footedקַ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֔יוkal be.rag.LavH7031H7272as oneכְּאַחַ֥דke.'a.ChadH259of the gazellesהַצְּבָיִ֖םha.tze.va.YimH6643that is in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ba.sa.DehH7704.
21So Abnerאַבְנֵ֗ר'av.NerH74saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Turnנְטֵ֤הne.TehH5186asideH5186for your own goodto your rightיְמִֽינְךָ֙ye.mi.ne.KhaH3225orא֣וֹ'oH176to your leftשְׂמֹאלֶ֔ךָse.mo.Le.khaH8040,and takeH270holdH270of oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259of the youngמֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔יםme.ha.ne.'a.RimH5288menH5288for yourself, and takeוְקַח־ve.kach-H3947for yourself his equipmentחֲלִצָת֑וֹcha.li.tza.ToH2488.”But Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214was unwillingוְלֹֽא־ אָבָ֣הve.lo'- 'a.VahH3808H14to turnלָס֖וּרla.SurH5493asideH5493from followingמֵאַחֲרָֽיו׃me.'a.cha.RavH310him.
22Then Abnerאַבְנֵ֗ר'av.NerH74repeatedוַיֹּ֧סֶף לֵאמֹר֙vai.Yo.sef le.MorH3254H559againע֣וֹדodH5750to Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֔ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214, “Turnס֥וּרsurH5493asideH5493for your own goodfrom followingמֵאַֽחֲרָ֑יme.'a.cha.RaiH310me. Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should I strikeאַכֶּ֙כָּה֙'ak.Ke.kahH5221you to the groundאַ֔רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776?Howוְאֵיךְ֙ve.'eiKhH349then could Ishowאֶשָּׂ֣א'e.Sa'H5375my faceפָנַ֔יfa.NaiH6440to your brotherאָחִֽיךָ׃'a.Chi.khaH251Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097?”
23However, he refusedוַיְמָאֵ֣ןvay.ma.'EnH3985to turnלָס֗וּרla.SurH5493asideH5493;so Abnerאַבְנֵר֩'av.NerH74struckוַיַּכֵּ֣הוּvai.ya.Ke.huH5221him in the bellyהַחֹ֗מֶשׁha.Cho.meshH2570with the buttH310endH310of the spearהַחֲנִ֜יתha.cha.NitH2595,so that the spearהַֽחֲנִית֙ha.cha.NitH2595cameH3318outH3318at his backH310.And he fellוַיִּפָּל־vai.yi.pol-H5307thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033and diedוַיָּ֣מָתvai.Ya.motH4191on the spotתַּחְתָּ֑יוta.cha.tovH8478.And it happenedוַיְהִ֡יvay.HiH1961that allכָּל־kol-H3605who cameהַבָּ֣אha.Ba'H935thereafterto the placeהַמָּקוֹם֩ha.ma.kOmH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֧ם'a.Sher- shamH834H8033Asahelעֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל'a.sa.h.'ElH6214had fallenנָ֨פַלNa.falH5307and diedוַיָּמֹ֖תvai.ya.MotH4191,stoodH5975stillוַֽיַּעֲמֹֽדוּ׃Vai.ya.'a.Mo.duH5975.
24But Joabיוֹאָ֥בyo.'AvH3097and Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֖יva.'a.vi.ShaiH52pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֣יvai.yir.de.Fu 'a.cha.ReiH7291H310Abnerאַבְנֵ֑ר'av.NerH74,and when the sunוְהַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁve.ha.She.meshH8121was goingבָּ֔אָהBa.'ahH935down, they cameבָּ֚אוּBa.'uH935to the hillגִּבְעַ֣תgiv.'AtH1389of Ammahאַמָּ֔ה'a.MahH522,whichאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834is oppositeפְּנֵי־pe.nei-H6440Giahגִ֔יחַGi.achH1520by wayדֶּ֖רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of the wildernessמִדְבַּ֥רmid.BarH4057of Gibeonגִּבְעֽוֹן׃giv.'onH1391.
25And the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִן֙vin.ya.MinH1144gatheredוַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֤וּvai.yit.ka.be.TzuH6908together behindאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Abnerאַבְנֵ֔ר'av.NerH74and becameוַיִּהְי֖וּvai.yih.YuH1961oneH259troopלַאֲגֻדָּ֣הla.'a.gu.DahH92,and they stoodוַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּvai.Ya.'am.DuH5975on the topרֹאשׁ־rosh-H7218of a hillגִּבְעָ֖הgiv.'AhH1389.
26Then Abnerאַבְנֵ֜ר'av.NerH74calledוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Should the swordחֶ֔רֶבChe.revH2719devourתֹּ֣אכַלTo.khalH398foreverהֲלָנֶ֙צַח֙ha.la.Ne.tzachH5331?Do you not realizeיָדַ֔עְתָּהya.Da'.tahH3045that it will be bitterמָרָ֥הma.RahH4751in the endבָּאַחֲרוֹנָ֑הba.'a.cha.ro.NahH314?So howH4970longוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704H4970will yourefrainH3808from tellingתֹאמַ֣רto.MarH559the peopleלָעָ֔םla.'AmH5971to turnלָשׁ֖וּבla.ShuvH7725backH7725from pursuingמֵאַחֲרֵ֥יme.'a.cha.ReiH310their kinsmenאֲחֵיהֶֽם׃'a.chei.HemH251?”
27Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430livesחַ֚יchaiH2416,ifכִּ֥י לוּלֵ֖אki lu.Le'H3588H3884you had not spokenדִּבַּ֑רְתָּdi.Bar.taH1696,thenאָ֤ז'azH227the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971of Judahcertainlyכִּ֣יkiH3588would have withdrawnנַעֲלָ֣הna.'a.LahH5927in the morningמֵֽהַבֹּ֙קֶר֙me.ha.Bo.kerH1242,eachאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376from pursuingמֵאַחֲרֵ֥יme.'a.cha.ReiH310his brotherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251.”
28So Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097blewוַיִּתְקַ֤עvai.yit.Ka'H8628the trumpetבַּשּׁוֹפָ֔רba.sho.FarH7782,and allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971haltedוַיַּֽעַמְדוּ֙vai.ya.'am.DuH5975and noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֖וֹדodH5750pursuedיִרְדְּפ֥וּyir.de.FuH7291Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,norוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808did they continueיָסְפ֥וּya.se.FuH3254to fightלְהִלָּחֵֽם׃le.hi.la.ChemH3898anymoreע֖וֹדodH5750.

30Then Joabוְיוֹאָ֗בve.yo.'AvH3097returnedשָׁ֚בShavH7725from pursuingמֵאַחֲרֵ֣יme.'a.cha.ReiH310Abnerאַבְנֵ֔ר'av.NerH74;but he gatheredוַיִּקְבֹּ֖ץvai.yik.BotzH6908allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971together, andnineteenתִּשְׁעָֽה־ עָשָׂ֥רtish.'ah- 'a.SarH8672H6240of David’sדָוִ֛דda.VidH1732servantsמֵעַבְדֵ֥יme.'av.DeiH5650wereH6485missingH6485,besides AsahelH6214.
31However, the servantsוְעַבְדֵ֣יve.'av.DeiH5650of Davidדָוִ֗דda.VidH1732had struckH5221andH5221killedH5221manyof Benjaminמִבִּנְיָמִ֔ןmi.bin.ya.MinH1144and Abner’sאַבְנֵ֑ר'av.NerH74menאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376;360שְׁלֹשׁ־ מֵא֧וֹת וְשִׁשִּׁ֛יםshe.losh- me.'ot ve.shi.ShimH7969H3967H8346menH376were deadמֵֽתוּ׃Me.tuH4191.
