Jeremiah 2:8-26
8The 1priestsH3548 did not sayH559, ‘WhereH346 is the LordH3068?’ And those who handleH8610 the lawH8451 2did not knowH3045 Me; The 3rulersH7462 also transgressedH6586 against Me, And the 4prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 by BaalH1168 And walkedH1980 afterH310 5things that did not profitH3276.
9“ThereforeH3651 I will yetH5750 6contendH7378 with you,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And with your sons’H1121 sonsH1121 I will contendH7378.10For 7crossH5674 to the coastlandsH339 of 8KittimH3794 and seeH7200, And sendH7971 to 9KedarH6938 and observeH995 closelyH3966 And seeH7200 ifH2005 there has beenH1961 such a thing as thisH2088!11Has a nationH1471 changedH4171 godsH430 When 10they were not godsH430? But My peopleH5971 have 11changedH4171 their gloryH3519 For that which does not profitH3276.12Be appalledH8074, 12O heavensH8064, at thisH2088, And shudderH8175, be veryH3966 desolateH2717,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.13“For My peopleH5971 have committedH6213 twoH8147 evilsH7451: They have forsakenH5800 Me, The 13fountainH4726 of livingH2416 watersH4325, To hewH2672 for themselves 14cisternsH877, BrokenH7665 cisternsH877 That canH3201 holdH3557 noH3808 waterH4325.
14“Is IsraelH3478 15a slaveH5650? OrH518 is he a homebornH3211H1004 servant? WhyH4069 has he becomeH1961 a preyH957?15The youngH3715 16lionsH3715 have roaredH7580 at him, They have 17roaredH5414H6963 loudlyH5414H6963. And they have 18madeH7896 his landH776 a wasteH8047; His citiesH5892 have been destroyedH5327, withoutH1097 inhabitantH3427.16AlsoH1571 the 19menH1121 of 20MemphisH5297 and TahpanhesH8471 Have 21shavedH7462 the 22crownH6936 of your headH6936.17Have you not 23doneH6213 thisH2088 to yourself By your forsakingH5800 the LordH3068 your GodH430 WhenH6256 He 24ledH1980 you in the wayH1870?18But nowH6258 whatH4100 are you doing 25on the roadH1870 to EgyptH4714, To drinkH8354 the watersH4325 of the 2627NileH7883? Or whatH4100 are you doing on the roadH1870 to AssyriaH804, To drinkH8354 the watersH4325 of the 28EuphratesH5104?1929Your own wickednessH7463 will correctH3256 you, And your 30apostasiesH4878 will reproveH3198 you; KnowH3045 therefore and seeH7200 that it is evilH7451 and 31bitterH4751 For you to forsakeH5800 the LordH3068 your GodH430, And 32the dreadH6345 of Me is not in you,” declaresH5002 the LordH136 33GodH3068 of hostsH6635.
20“For longH5769 agoH5769 3435I brokeH7665 your yokeH5923 And toreH5423 offH5423 your bondsH4147; But you saidH559, ‘I will not serveH5647!’ For on everyH3605 36highH1364 hillH1389 And underH8478 everyH3605 greenH7488 treeH6086 You have lainH6808 downH6808 as a harlotH2181.21Yet I 37plantedH5193 you a choiceH8321 vineH8321, A completelyH3605 faithfulH571 seedH2233. HowH349 then have you turnedH2015 yourself before Me Into the 38degenerateH5493 shoots of a foreignH5237 vineH1612?22AlthoughH3588H518 you 39washH3526 yourself with lyeH5427 And 40useH7235 muchH7235 soapH1287, The 41stainH3799 of your iniquityH5771 is beforeH6440 Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH136 42GodH3068.23“43HowH349 can you sayH559, ‘I am not defiledH2930, I have not goneH1980 afterH310 the 44BaalsH1168’? LookH7200 at your wayH1870 in the 45valleyH1516! KnowH3045 whatH4100 you have doneH6213! You are a swiftH7031 youngH1072 camelH1072 46entanglingH8308 her waysH1870,24A 47wildH6501 donkeyH6501 accustomedH3928 to the wildernessH4057, That sniffsH7602 the windH7307 in her passionH185H5315. In the time of her 48heatH8385 whoH4310 can turnH7725 her awayH7725? AllH3605 who seekH1245 her will not becomeH3286 wearyH3286; In her monthH2320 they will findH4672 her.25KeepH4513 your feetH7272 from being unshodH3182 And your throatH1627 from thirstH6773; But you saidH559, ‘49It is 50hopelessH2976! NoH3808! For I have 51lovedH157 strangersH2114, And afterH310 them I will walkH1980.’
26“As the 52thiefH1590 is shamedH954 whenH3588 he is discoveredH4672, SoH3651 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 is shamedH954; They, their kingsH4428, their princesH8269 And their priestsH3548 and their prophetsH5030,
