Context of Job 14:17
15You will call, and I will answer You; You will long for the work of Your hands. 16For now You number my steps, You do not observe my sin. My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You wrap up my iniquity. 18“But the falling mountain crumbles away, And the rock moves from its place; 19Water wears away stones, Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth; So You destroy man’s hope.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17My transgression is sealed up - The verb rendered sealed up (חתם châtham ) means to seal, to close, to shut up; see the notes at Isaiah 8:16; compare the notes at Job 9:7. It was common with the ancients to use a seal where we use a lock. Money was counted and put into a bag, and a seal was attached to it. Hence, a seal might be put to a bag, as a sort of certificate of the amount, and to save the necessity of counting it again. In a bag - - בצרור…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-22Verses 16-22 Job's faith and hope spake, and grace appeared to revive; but depravity again prevailed. He represents God as carrying matters to extremity against him. The Lord must prevail against all who contend with him. But what a change awaits the…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1717. sealed up--(Job 9:7). Is shut up in eternal oblivion, that is, God thenceforth will think no more of my former sins.
