Nebuchadnezzar Besieges Jerusalem

11Now in the ninthH8671 yearH8141 of his reignH4427, on the tenthH6218 day of the tenthH6224 monthH2320, 2NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935, he and allH3605 his armyH2428, againstH5921 JerusalemH3389, campedH2583 againstH5921 it and 3builtH1129 a siegeH1785 wallH1785 allH5439 aroundH5439 4it. 2So the cityH5892 was under siegeH4692 untilH5704 the eleventhH6249H6240 yearH8141 of KingH4428 ZedekiahH6667. 3On the ninthH8672 day of the fourth monthH2320 5the famineH7458 was so severeH2388 in the cityH5892 that there was noH3808 foodH3899 for the peopleH5971 of the landH776. 46Then the cityH5892 was brokenH1234 into, and allH3605 the menH376 of warH4421 fled by nightH3915 by wayH1870 of the gateH8179 betweenH996 the two wallsH2346 besideH5921 7the king’sH4428 gardenH1588, though the ChaldeansH3778 were allH5439 aroundH5439 the cityH5892. And 8they wentH1980 by wayH1870 of the ArabahH6160. 5But the armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 pursuedH7291 the kingH4428 and overtookH5381 him in the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405 and allH3605 his armyH2428 was scatteredH6327 from him. 6Then 9they capturedH8610 the kingH4428 and 10broughtH5927 him to the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 at 11RiblahH7247, and 12he passedH1696 sentenceH1696 on him. 713They slaughteredH7819 the sonsH1121 of ZedekiahH6667 before his eyesH5869, then 14putH5786 out the eyesH5869 of ZedekiahH6667 and boundH631 him with bronzeH5178 fettersH5178 and broughtH935 him to BabylonH894.

Jerusalem Burned and Plundered

815Now on the seventhH7651 day of the 16fifthH2549 monthH2320, whichH1931 was the nineteenthH8672H6240 yearH8141 of KingH4428 NebuchadnezzarH5019, kingH4428 of BabylonH894, NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the guardH2876, a servantH5650 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, cameH935 to JerusalemH3389. 917He burnedH8313 the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, 18the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and allH3605 the housesH1004 of JerusalemH3389; even everyH3605 greatH1419 houseH1004 he burnedH8313 with fireH784. 10So allH3605 the armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 whoH834 were with the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 19brokeH5422 downH5422 the wallsH2346 aroundH5439 JerusalemH3389. 11Then 20the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 who were leftH7604 in the cityH5892 and the desertersH5307 whoH834 had desertedH5307 to the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and the restH3499 of the peopleH5971, NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 carriedH1540 awayH1540 into exileH1540. 12But the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 leftH7604 someH4480 of 21the poorestH1803 of the landH776 to be vinedressersH3755 and plowmenH3009.

1322Now the bronzeH5178 pillarsH5982 whichH834 were in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and the standsH4350 and 23the bronzeH5178 seaH3220 whichH834 were in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, the ChaldeansH3778 brokeH7665 in piecesH7665 and carriedH5375 the 24bronzeH5178 to BabylonH894. 1425They tookH3947 away the potsH5518, the shovelsH3257, the snuffersH4212, the spoonsH3709, and allH3605 the bronzeH5178 vesselsH3627 whichH834 were usedH8334 in temple serviceH8334. 15The captainH7227 of the guardH2876 also tookH3947 away the firepansH4289 and the basinsH4219, whatH834 was fineH3701 goldH2091 and whatH834 was fineH3701 silverH3701. 16The twoH8147 pillarsH5982, the oneH259 seaH3220, and the standsH4350 whichH834 SolomonH8010 had madeH6213 for the houseH1004 of the LordH3068--26the bronzeH5178 of allH3605 theseH428 vesselsH3627 was beyondH3808 weightH4948. 1727The heightH6967 of the oneH259 pillarH5982 was eighteenH8083H6240 28cubitsH520, and a bronzeH5178 capitalH3805 was on it; the heightH6967 of the capitalH3805 was threeH7969 29cubitsH520, with a networkH7639 and pomegranatesH7416 on the capitalH3805 allH5439 aroundH5439, allH3605 of bronzeH5178. And the secondH8145 pillarH5982 was like theseH428 with networkH7639.

18Then the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 tookH3947 30SeraiahH8304 the chiefH7218 priestH3548 and 31ZephaniahH6846 the secondH4932 priestH3548, with the threeH7969 32officersH8104 of the templeH5592. 19From the cityH5892 he tookH3947 oneH259 officialH5631 whoH834 was overseerH6496 of the menH376 of warH4421, and 33fiveH2568 34of the king’sH4428 advisersH582H7200 whoH834 were foundH4672 in the cityH5892; and the 35scribeH5613 of the captainH8269 of the armyH6635 who musteredH6633 the peopleH5971 of the landH776; and sixtyH8346 menH376 of the peopleH5971 of the landH776 who were foundH4672 in the cityH5892. 20NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 tookH3947 them and broughtH1980 them to the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 at 36RiblahH7247. 21Then the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 struckH5221 them down and putH4191 them to deathH4191 at RiblahH7247 in the landH776 of HamathH2574. 37So JudahH3063 was ledH1540 awayH1540 into exileH1540 from its landH127.

Gedaliah Made Governor

22Now as for the peopleH5971 who were leftH7604 in the landH776 of JudahH3063, whomH834 NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had leftH7604, he appointedH6485 38GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227 overH5921 them. 2339When allH3605 the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428, they and their menH376, heardH8085 that the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had appointedH6485 GedaliahH1436 governor, they cameH935 to GedaliahH1436 to 40MizpahH4709, namely, IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, and JohananH3076 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and SeraiahH8304 the sonH1121 of TanhumethH8576 the NetophathiteH5200, and JaazaniahH2970 the sonH1121 of the MaacathiteH4602, they and their menH376. 24GedaliahH1436 sworeH7650 to them and their menH376 and saidH559 to them, “Do not be afraidH3372 of the servantsH5650 of the ChaldeansH3778; liveH3427 in the landH776 and serveH5647 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and it will be wellH3190 with you.”

2541But it cameH1961 about in the seventhH7637 monthH2320, that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, the sonH1121 of ElishamaH476, of the royalH4410 42familyH2233, cameH935 43with tenH6235 menH376 and struckH5221 GedaliahH1436 down so that he diedH4191 along with the JewsH3064 and the ChaldeansH3778 whoH834 were with him at MizpahH4709. 2644Then allH3605 the peopleH5971, bothH4480 smallH6996 and greatH1419, and the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428 aroseH6965 and wentH935 to EgyptH4714; for they were afraidH3372 of the ChaldeansH3778.

2745Now it cameH1961 about in the thirty-seventhH7970H7651 yearH8141 of 46the exileH1546 of JehoiachinH3078 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the twelfthH8147H6240 monthH2320, on the twenty-seventhH6242H7651 day of the monthH2320, that Evil-merodachH192 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, in the yearH8141 that he becameH4427 kingH4427, 4748releasedH5375H7218 JehoiachinH3078 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 from prisonH1004H3608; 28and he 49spokeH1696 kindlyH2899 to him and setH5414 his throneH3678 aboveH4480H5921 the throneH3678 of the kingsH4428 whoH834 were with him in BabylonH894. 2950Jehoiachin changedH8132 his prisonH3608 clothesH899 and 5152hadH398 his mealsH3899 in 53the king’s presenceH6440 regularlyH8548 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH2425; 30and for his 54allowanceH737, a regularH8548 allowanceH737 was givenH5414 him by the kingH4428, a portionH1697 for eachH3117 dayH3117, allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH2425.
