Elijah Flees from Jezebel

1Now AhabH256 toldH5046 JezebelH348 allH3605 that ElijahH452 had doneH6213, and 12howH834 he had killedH2026 allH3605 the prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. 2Then JezebelH348 sentH7971 a messengerH4397 to ElijahH452, sayingH559, “3SoH3541 may the godsH430 doH6213 to me and evenH3541 moreH3254, ifH3588 I do not makeH7760 your 4lifeH5315 as the 5lifeH5315 of oneH259 of them by tomorrowH4279 about this timeH6256.” 3And he 6was afraidH3372 and aroseH6965 and ranH1980 for his 7lifeH5315 and cameH935 to 8BeershebaH884, whichH834 belongs to JudahH3063, and leftH5117 his servantH5288 thereH8033. 4But he himselfH1931 wentH1980 a day’sH3117 journeyH1870 into the wildernessH4057, and cameH935 and satH3427 downH3427 underH8478 a 9juniperH7574 treeH7574; and 10he requestedH7592 for himselfH5315 that he might dieH4191, and saidH559, “It is enoughH7227; nowH6258, O LordH3068, takeH3947 my 11lifeH5315, for I am not betterH2896 thanH4480 my fathersH1.” 5He layH7901 downH7901 and sleptH3462 underH8478 a 12juniperH7574 treeH7574; and beholdH2009, thereH2088 was 13an angelH4397 touchingH5060 him, and he saidH559 to him, “AriseH6965, eatH398.” 6Then he lookedH5027 and beholdH2009, there was at his headH4763 a breadH5692 cakeH5692 baked on hotH7531 stonesH7531, and a jarH6835 of waterH4325. So he ateH398 and drankH8354 and layH7901 downH7901 againH7725. 7The angelH4397 of the LordH3068 cameH7725 againH7725 a secondH8145 timeH8145 and touchedH5060 him and saidH559, “AriseH6965, eatH398, becauseH3588 the journeyH1870 is tooH4480 greatH7227 for you.” 8So he aroseH6965 and ateH398 and drankH8354, and wentH1980 in the strengthH3581 of that foodH396 14fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915 to 15HorebH2722, the mountainH2022 of GodH430.

Elijah at Horeb

9Then he cameH935 thereH8033 to a caveH4631 and lodgedH3885 thereH8033; and beholdH2009, 16the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came to him, and He saidH559 to him, “WhatH4100 are you doing hereH6311, ElijahH452?” 10He saidH559, “17I have beenH7065 veryH7065 zealousH7065 for the LordH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635; for the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 have forsakenH5800 Your covenantH1285, 18tornH2040 downH2040 Your altarsH4196 and killedH2026 Your prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. And 19I aloneH905 am leftH3498; and they seekH1245 my lifeH5315, to takeH3947 it away.”

11So He saidH559, “20GoH3318 forthH3318 and standH5975 on the mountainH2022 beforeH6440 the LordH3068.” And beholdH2009, the LordH3068 was passingH5674 by! And 21a greatH1419 and strongH2389 windH7307 was rendingH6561 the mountainsH2022 and breakingH7665 in piecesH7665 the rocksH5553 beforeH6440 the LordH3068; but the LordH3068 was not in the windH7307. And afterH310 the windH7307 an earthquakeH7494, but the LordH3068 was not in the earthquakeH7494. 12AfterH310 the earthquakeH7494 a fireH784, but the LordH3068 was not in the fireH784; and afterH310 the fireH784 22a soundH6963 of a gentleH1851 blowingH1827. 13When ElijahH452 heardH8085 it, 23he wrappedH3874 his faceH6440 in his mantleH155 and wentH3318 out and stoodH5975 in the entranceH6607 of the caveH4631. And beholdH2009, 24a voiceH6963 came to him and saidH559, “WhatH4100 are you doing hereH6311, ElijahH452?” 14Then he saidH559, “25I have beenH7065 veryH7065 zealousH7065 for the LordH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635; for the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 have forsakenH5800 Your covenantH1285, tornH2040 downH2040 Your altarsH4196 and killedH2026 Your prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. And I aloneH905 am leftH3498; and they seekH1245 my lifeH5315, to takeH3947 it away.”

15The LordH3068 saidH559 to him, “GoH1980, returnH7725 on your wayH1870 to the wildernessH4057 of DamascusH1834, and when you have arrivedH935, 26you shall anointH4886 HazaelH2371 kingH4428 overH5921 AramH758; 16and 27JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250 you shall anointH4886 kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478; and 28ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 of Abel-meholahH65 you shall anointH4886 as prophetH5030 in your placeH8478. 17It shall comeH1961 about, the 29one who escapesH4422 from the swordH2719 of HazaelH2371, JehuH3058 30shall putH4191 to deathH4191, and the one who escapesH4422 from the swordH2719 of JehuH3058, ElishaH477 shall putH4191 to deathH4191. 1831Yet I will leaveH7604 7,000H7651H505 in IsraelH3478, allH3605 the kneesH1290 that have not bowedH3766 to BaalH1168 and everyH3605 mouthH6310 that has not 32kissedH5401 him.”

19So he departedH1980 from thereH8033 and foundH4672 ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202, while he was plowingH2790 with twelveH8147H6240 pairsH6776 of oxen beforeH6440 him, and he with the twelfthH8147H6240. And ElijahH452 passedH5674 overH5674 to him and threwH7993 33his mantleH155 on him. 20He leftH5800 the oxenH1241 and ranH7323 afterH310 ElijahH452 and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 34let me kissH5401 my fatherH1 and my motherH517, then I will followH1980H310 you.” And he saidH559 to him, “GoH1980 backH7725 againH7725, for whatH4100 have I doneH6213 to you?” 21So he returnedH7725 from followingH310 him, and tookH3947 the pairH6776 of oxenH1241 and sacrificedH2076 them and 35boiledH1310 their fleshH1320 with the implementsH3627 of the oxenH1241, and gaveH5414 it to the peopleH5971 and they ateH398. Then he aroseH6965 and followedH1980H310 ElijahH452 and ministeredH8334 to him.
