Alliance with King Hiram
112Now HiramH2438 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 sentH7971 his servantsH5650 to SolomonH8010, whenH3588 he heardH8085 that they had anointedH4886 him kingH4428 in placeH8478 of his fatherH1, for 3HiramH2438 hadH1961 4alwaysH3605H3117 beenH1961 a friendH157 of DavidH1732. 2Then 5SolomonH8010 sentH7971 word to HiramH2438, sayingH559, 3“You knowH3045 that 6DavidH1732 my fatherH1 was unableH3808H3201 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 his GodH430 becauseH4480H6440 of the warsH4421 whichH834 surroundedH5437 him, untilH5704 the LordH3068 putH5414 them underH8478 the solesH3709 of his feetH7272. 4But nowH6258 7the LordH3068 my GodH430 has givenH5117 me restH5117 on everyH5439 sideH5439; thereH369 is neitherH369 adversaryH7854 norH369 8misfortuneH6294H7451. 5BeholdH2009, 9I 10intendH559 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 my GodH430, as the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to DavidH1732 my fatherH1, sayingH559, ‘Your sonH1121, whomH834 I will setH5414 on your throneH3678 in your placeH8478, he will buildH1129 the houseH1004 for My nameH8034.’ 6NowH6258 therefore, commandH6680 that they cutH3772 for me 11cedarsH730 from LebanonH3844, and my servantsH5650 will be with your servantsH5650; and I will giveH5414 you wagesH7939 for your servantsH5650 according to allH3605 that you sayH559, for you knowH3045 that thereH369 is noH369 oneH376 among us who knowsH3045 how to cutH3772 timberH6086 like the SidoniansH6722.”
7When HiramH2438 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of SolomonH8010, he rejoicedH8055 greatlyH3966 and saidH559, “BlessedH1288 be the LordH3068 todayH3117, whoH834 has givenH5414 to DavidH1732 a wiseH2450 sonH1121 overH5921 thisH2088 greatH7227 peopleH5971.” 8So HiramH2438 sentH7971 word to SolomonH8010, sayingH559, “I have heardH8085 the message whichH834 you have sentH7971 me; I will doH6213 12whatH2656 you desireH2656 concerning the cedarH730 and cypressH1265 timberH6086. 9My servantsH5650 will bringH3381 them downH3381 from LebanonH3844 to the seaH3220; and I will makeH7760 them into raftsH1702 to go by seaH3220 13to the placeH4725 whereH834 you 14directH7971 me, and I will have them brokenH5310 up thereH8033, and you shall carryH5375 them away. Then 15you shall accomplishH6213 my desireH2656 by givingH5414 foodH3899 to my householdH1004.” 10So 16HiramH2438 17gaveH5414 SolomonH8010 18as muchH3605 as he desiredH2656 of the cedarH730 and cypressH1265 timberH6086. 1119SolomonH8010 then gaveH5414 HiramH2438 20,000H6242H505 20korsH3734 of wheatH2406 as foodH4361 for his householdH1004, and twentyH6242 21korsH3734 of beatenH3795 oilH8081; thusH3541 SolomonH8010 would giveH5414 HiramH2438 yearH8141 by yearH8141. 1222The LordH3068 gaveH5414 wisdomH2451 to SolomonH8010, justH3512 as He 23promisedH1696 him; and there was peaceH7965 betweenH996 HiramH2438 and SolomonH8010, and the twoH8147 of them madeH3772 a covenantH1285.
Conscription of Laborers
13Now 24KingH4428 SolomonH8010 25leviedH5927 forcedH4522 laborersH4522 from allH3605 IsraelH3478; and the forcedH4522 laborersH4522 26numberedH1961 30,000H7970H505 menH376. 14He sentH7971 them to LebanonH3844, 10,000H6235H505 a monthH2320 in relaysH2487; they were in LebanonH3844 a monthH2320 and twoH8147 monthsH2320 at homeH1004. And 27AdoniramH141 was overH5921 the forcedH4522 laborersH4522. 15Now 28SolomonH8010 hadH1961 70,000H7657H505 29transportersH5449H5375, and 80,000H8084H505 hewersH2672 of stone in the mountainsH2022, 1630besidesH905H4480 Solomon’sH8010 3,300H7969H505H3967 chiefH8269 deputiesH5324 whoH834 were overH5921 the 31projectH4399 and who ruledH7287 over the peopleH5971 who were doingH6213 the workH4399. 17Then 32the kingH4428 commandedH6680, and they quarriedH5265 greatH1419 stonesH68, costlyH3368 stonesH68, to layH3245 the foundationH3245 of the houseH1004 with cutH1496 stonesH68. 18So Solomon’sH8010 buildersH1129 and 33Hiram’sH2438 buildersH1129 and 34the GebalitesH1382 35cutH6458 them, and preparedH3559 the timbersH6086 and the stonesH68 to buildH1129 the houseH1004.
