Elijah Flees from Jezebel
1Now AhabH256 toldH5046 JezebelH348 everythingH3605 that ElijahH452 had doneH6213, and 12howH834 he had killedH2026 allH3605 the prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. 2Then JezebelH348 sentH7971 a messengerH4397 to ElijahH452, sayingH559, “3SoH3541 may the godsH430 doH6213 to me and moreH3254 soH3541, ifH3588 by about this timeH6256 tomorrowH4279 I do not makeH7760 your 4lifeH5315 like the 5lifeH5315 of oneH259 of them.” 3And he 6wasH3372 afraidH3372, and gotH6965 upH6965 and ranH1980 for his 7lifeH5315 and cameH935 to 8BeershebaH884, whichH834 belongs to JudahH3063; and he leftH5117 his servantH5288 thereH8033. 4But he himselfH1931 wentH1980 a day’sH3117 journeyH1870 into the wildernessH4057, and cameH935 and satH3427 downH3427 underH8478 a broomH7574 treeH7574; and 9he askedH7592 for himselfH5315 to dieH4191, and saidH559, “EnoughH7227! NowH6258, LordH3068, takeH3947 my 10lifeH5315, for I am noH3808 betterH2896 thanH4480 my fathersH1.” 5Then he layH7901 downH7901 and fellH3462 asleepH3462 underH8478 a broomH7574 treeH7574; but beholdH2009, thereH2088 was 11an angelH4397 touchingH5060 him, and he saidH559 to him, “AriseH6965, eatH398!” 6And he lookedH5027, and beholdH2009, there was atH4763 his headH4763 a roundH5692 loafH5692 ofH5692 breadH5692 baked on hotH7531 coalsH7531, and a pitcherH6835 of waterH4325. So he ateH398 and drankH8354, and layH7901 downH7901 againH7725. 7But the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 cameH7725 backH7725 a secondH8145 timeH8145 and touchedH5060 him, and saidH559, “AriseH6965, eatH398; becauseH3588 the journeyH1870 is tooH4480 longH7227 for you.” 8So he aroseH6965 and ateH398 and drankH8354, and he journeyedH1980 in the strengthH3581 of that foodH396 for 12fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915 to 13HorebH2722, the mountainH2022 of GodH430.
Elijah at Horeb
9Then he cameH935 thereH8033 to a caveH4631 and spentH3885 theH3885 nightH3885 thereH8033; and beholdH2009, 14the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came to him, and He saidH559 to him, “WhatH4100 are you doing hereH6311, ElijahH452?” 10And he saidH559, “15I have beenH7065 veryH7065 zealousH7065 for the LordH3068, the GodH430 of armiesH6635; for the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 have abandonedH5800 Your covenantH1285, 16tornH2040 downH2040 Your altarsH4196, and killedH2026 Your prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. And 17I aloneH905 am leftH3498; and they have soughtH1245 to takeH3947 my lifeH5315.”
11So He saidH559, “18GoH3318 outH3318 and standH5975 on the mountainH2022 beforeH6440 the LordH3068.” And beholdH2009, the LordH3068 was passingH5674 byH5674! And 19a greatH1419 and powerfulH2389 windH7307 was tearingH6561 outH6561 the mountainsH2022 and breakingH7665 the rocksH5553 inH7665 piecesH7665 beforeH6440 the LordH3068; but the LordH3068 was not in the windH7307. And afterH310 the windH7307 there was an earthquakeH7494, but the LordH3068 was not in the earthquakeH7494. 12And afterH310 the earthquakeH7494, a fireH784, but the LordH3068 was not in the fireH784; and afterH310 the fireH784, 20a soundH6963 of a gentleH1851 blowingH1827. 13When ElijahH452 heardH8085 it, 21he wrappedH3874 his faceH6440 in his cloakH155 and wentH3318 outH3318 and stoodH5975 in the entranceH6607 of the caveH4631. And beholdH2009, 22a voiceH6963 came to him and saidH559, “WhatH4100 are you doing hereH6311, ElijahH452?” 14Then he saidH559, “23I have beenH7065 veryH7065 zealousH7065 for the LordH3068, the GodH430 of armiesH6635; for the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 have abandonedH5800 Your covenantH1285, tornH2040 downH2040 Your altarsH4196, and killedH2026 Your prophetsH5030 with the swordH2719. And I aloneH905 am leftH3498; and they have soughtH1245 to takeH3947 my lifeH5315.”
15The LordH3068 saidH559 to him, “GoH1980, returnH7725 on your wayH1870 to the wildernessH4057 of DamascusH1834; and when you have arrivedH935, 24you shall anointH4886 HazaelH2371 kingH4428 overH5921 AramH758. 16You shall also anointH4886 25JehuH3058 the sonH1121 of NimshiH5250 kingH4428 overH5921 IsraelH3478; and you shall anointH4886 26ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 of Abel-meholahH65 as prophetH5030 inH8478 your placeH8478. 17And it shall comeH1961 aboutH1961 that the 27one who escapesH4422 from the swordH2719 of HazaelH2371, JehuH3058 28shall putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191, and the one who escapesH4422 from the swordH2719 of JehuH3058, ElishaH477 shall putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191. 1829Yet I will leaveH7604 sevenH7651 thousandH505 in IsraelH3478, allH3605 the kneesH1290 that have not bowedH3766 to BaalH1168 and everyH3605 mouthH6310 that has not 30kissedH5401 him.”
19So he departedH1980 from thereH8033 and foundH4672 ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 while he was plowingH2790, with twelveH8147H6240 yokeH6776 of oxen in frontH6440 of him, and he with the twelfthH8147H6240. And ElijahH452 cameH5674 overH5674 to him and threwH7993 31his cloakH155 on him. 20Then he leftH5800 the oxenH1241 behindH5800 and ranH7323 afterH310 ElijahH452, and saidH559, “PleaseH4994 32let me kissH5401 my fatherH1 and my motherH517, then I will followH1980H310 you.” And he saidH559 to him, “GoH1980 backH7725, for 33whatH4100 have I doneH6213 to you?” 21So he returnedH7725 from followingH310 him, and tookH3947 the pairH6776 of oxenH1241 and sacrificedH2076 them, and 34cookedH1310 their meatH1320 with the implementsH3627 of the oxenH1241, and gaveH5414 it to the peopleH5971 and they ateH398. Then he gotH6965 upH6965 and followedH1980H310 ElijahH452 and servedH8334 him.
