Nehemiah 6

Darby Bible

1And it came to pass when SanballatH5571, and Tobijah, and GeshemH1654 the Arabian, and the rest of our enemiesH341, heardH8085 that I had builtH1129 the wallH2346, and that there wasH1961 no breachH6556 leftH3498 in it (though at that timeH6256 I had not setH5975 up the doorsH1817 in the gatesH8179), 2that SanballatH5571 and GeshemH1654 sentH7971 to me, sayingH559, Come, let us meetH3259 togetherH3162 in the villages in the plainH1237 of OnoH207. But they thought to do me mischief. 3And I sentH7971 messengersH4397 to them, sayingH559, I am doing a greatH1419 workH4399, and I cannot comeH3381 down. WhyH4100 should the workH4399 cease, whilst I leave it and comeH3381 down to you? 4And they sentH7971 to me fourH702 timesH6471 after this sort; and I answered them in the same mannerH1697. 5Then sentH7971 SanballatH5571 his servantH5288 to me in this mannerH1697 the fifthH2549 timeH6471, with an openH6605 letterH107 in his handH3027, 6in which was writtenH3789: It is reported among the nationsH1471, and Gashmu saysH559 [it, that] thou and the JewsH3064 think to rebelH4775, for which cause thou buildest the wallH2346, and according to these wordsH1697 thou wilt become their kingH4428. 7And thou hast alsoH1571 appointedH5975 prophetsH5030 to proclaimH7121 concerning thee at JerusalemH3389 sayingH559, There is a kingH4428 in JudahH3063! And nowH6258 it will be reported to the kingH4428 according to these wordsH1697. Come nowH6258 thereforeH6258, and let us take counselH3289 togetherH3162. 8And I sentH7971 to him, sayingH559, There are no such thingsH1697 done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heartH3820. 9For they all would have madeH6213 us afraidH3372, sayingH559, Their handsH3027 shall be slackened from the workH4399, that it be not carried out. — NowH6258 thereforeH6258 strengthenH2388 my handsH3027! 10And I cameH935 to the houseH1004 of ShemaiahH8098 the sonH1121 of DelaiahH1806, the sonH1121 of Mehetabeel, who had shutH5462 himself up. And he saidH559, Let us meetH3259 togetherH3259 in the houseH1004 of 1GodH430, within the temple, and let us shutH5462 the doorsH1817 of the temple; for they are comingH935 to killH2026 thee; even in the nightH3915 are they comingH935 to killH2026 thee. 11And I saidH559, Should such a manH376 as I fleeH1272? and who is there, that, being as I am, could goH935 into the templeH1964, and live? I will not goH935 in. 12And I perceived, and behold, 2GodH430 had not sentH7971 him; for he pronounced this prophecyH5016 against me; and Tobijah and SanballatH5571 had hiredH7936 him. 13ThereforeH3651 was he hiredH7936, that I should beH1961 afraidH3372, and do soH3651, and sinH2398, and that they might have wherewith to spread an evilH7451 report, that they might reproachH2778 me. 14My 3GodH430, rememberH2142 Tobijah and SanballatH5571 according to these their worksH4639, and alsoH1571 the prophetessH5031 NoadiahH5129, and the restH3499 of the prophetsH5030 who would have put me in fearH3372. 15So the wallH2346 was finished on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-twoH2572 daysH3117. 16And it came to pass that when all our enemiesH341 heardH8085 [of it], all the nationsH1471 that were about us were afraid and were much castH5307 downH5307 in their own eyesH5869, and they perceived that this workH4399 wasH1961 wrought by our 4GodH430. 17Moreover in those daysH3117 the nobles of JudahH3063 sent manyH7235 lettersH107 to Tobijah, and those of Tobijah cameH935 to them. 18For there were manyH7227 in JudahH3063 sworn to him; for he was a son-in-law of Shechaniah the sonH1121 of ArahH733; and his sonH1121 JohananH3076 had takenH3947 the daughterH1323 of MeshullamH4918 the sonH1121 of Berechiah. 19AlsoH1571 they spoke of his goodH2896 deeds before me, and reported my wordsH1697 to him. [And] Tobijah sentH7971 lettersH107 to put me in fearH3372.
