Nahum 3
American Standard Version
1WoeH1945 to the bloody cityH5892! it is all full of lies and rapine; the preyH2964 departeth not. 2The noise of the whipH7752, and the noise of the rattling of wheelsH212, and prancing horsesH5483, and bounding chariotsH4818, 3the horseman mounting, and the flashing swordH2719, and the glittering spearH2595, and a multitudeH7230 of slainH2491, and a great heap of corpsesH6297, and there is no endH7097 of the bodies; they stumbleH3782 upon their bodies;— 4because of the multitudeH7230 of the whoredoms of the well-favored harlot, the mistressH1172 of witchcrafts, that selleth nationsH1471 through her whoredoms, and familiesH4940 through her witchcrafts. 5Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, and I will uncoverH1540 thy skirtsH7757 upon thy faceH6440; and I will showH7200 the nationsH1471 thy nakedness, and the kingdomsH4467 thy shameH7036. 6And I will castH7993 abominable filth upon thee, and makeH7760 thee vile, and will setH7760 thee as a gazing-stock. 7And it shall come to pass, that all they that lookH7200 upon thee shall fleeH5074 from thee, and sayH559, NinevehH5210 is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seekH1245 comfortersH5162 for thee?
8Art thou betterH3190 than No-amon, that was situate among the riversH2975, that had the watersH4325 roundH5439 about her; whose rampartH2426 was the seaH3220, and her wallH2346 was of the seaH3220? 9Ethiopia and EgyptH4714 wereH1961 her strength, and it was infinite; PutH6316 and Lubim wereH1961 thy helpers. 10Yet was she carried away, she wentH1980 into captivityH7628; her young childrenH5768 alsoH1571 were dashedH7376 in pieces at the headH7218 of all the streetsH2351; and they castH3032 lotsH1486 for her honorable men, and all her greatH1419 men were bound in chains. 11Thou alsoH1571 shalt beH1961 drunken; thou shalt beH1961 hid; thou alsoH1571 shalt seekH1245 a strongholdH4581 because of the enemyH341. 12All thy fortressesH4013 shall be like fig-trees with the first-ripe figsH8384: if they be shakenH5128, they fallH5307 into the mouthH6310 of the eater. 13Behold, thy peopleH5971 in the midstH7130 of thee are womenH802; the gatesH8179 of thy landH776 are set wide openH6605 unto thine enemiesH341: the fireH784 hath devouredH398 thy barsH1280. 14DrawH7579 thee waterH4325 for the siegeH4692; strengthenH2388 thy fortressesH4013; goH935 into the clayH2916, and tread the mortar; makeH2388 strongH2388 the brickkiln. 15There shall the fireH784 devourH398 thee; the swordH2719 shall cutH3772 thee off; it shall devourH398 thee like the canker-worm: makeH3772 thyself many as the canker-worm; makeH3772 thyself many as the locustH697. 16Thou hast multipliedH7235 thy merchants above the starsH3556 of heavenH8064: the canker-worm ravageth, and fleeth away. 17Thy princes are as the locustsH697, and thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which encampH2583 in the hedges in the cold dayH3117, but when the sunH8121 ariseth they fleeH5074 awayH5074, and their placeH4725 is not knownH3045 whereH335 they are. 18Thy shepherdsH7462 slumberH5123, O kingH4428 of AssyriaH804; thy noblesH117 are at rest; thy peopleH5971 are scattered upon the mountainsH2022, and there is none to gatherH6908 them. 19There is no assuaging of thy hurt; thy woundH4347 is grievous: all that hearH8085 the reportH8088 of thee clap their handsH3709 over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickednessH7451 passedH5674 continuallyH8548?
