Joel 2
Darby Bible
1BlowH8628 the trumpetH7782 in ZionH6726, and soundH7321 an alarmH7321 in my holyH6944 mountainH2022; let all the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 trembleH7264: for the dayH3117 of Jehovah cometh, for it is at hand; 2a dayH3117 of darknessH2822 and gloomH653, a dayH3117 of cloudsH6051 and gross darknessH2822, as the dawnH7837 spreadH6566 upon the mountainsH2022; — a greatH7227 peopleH5971 and a strong; there hath not beenH1961 everH5769 the likeH3644, neither shall beH1961 any moreH4480 after them, to the yearsH8141 of generationsH1755 and generationsH1755. 3A fireH784 devoureth before them, and behind them a flameH3852 burneth; the landH776 is as a gardenH1588 of EdenH5731 before them, and behind them a desolate wildernessH4057: yea, and nothing escapeth them. 4The appearanceH4758 of them is as the appearanceH4758 of horsesH5483; and as horsemenH6571, so they runH7323. 5Like the noise of chariotsH4818, on the topsH7218 of the mountainsH2022, they leapH7540; like the noise of a flameH3851 of fireH784 that devoureth the stubbleH7179, as a strong peopleH5971 set in battleH4421 array. 6Before them the peoplesH5971 are in anguishH2342: all facesH6440 turn pale. 7They runH7323 like mightyH1368 menH376; they climb the wallH2346 like menH376 of warH4421; and they march every oneH376 on his waysH1870, and break not their ranks. 8Neither doth oneH376 press upon another; they march every oneH376 in his path; and fallH5307 amid weaponsH7973, but are not wounded. 9They spread themselves over the cityH5892; they runH7323 upon the wallH2346; they climb up into the housesH1004; they enter in by the windowsH2474 like a thiefH1590. 10The earthH776 quaketh before them; the heavensH8064 trembleH7264; the sunH8121 and the moonH3394 are darkened, and the starsH3556 withdrawH622 their shining. 11And Jehovah uttereth his voiceH6963 before his armyH4264; for his campH4264 is veryH3966 greatH1419; for strong is he that executeth his wordH1697: for the dayH3117 of Jehovah is greatH1419 and veryH3966 terrible; and who can bear it? 12Yet even nowH6258, saith Jehovah, turnH7725 to me with all your heartH3824, and with fastingH6685, and with weepingH1065, and with mourningH4553; 13and rend your heartH3824, and not your garmentsH899, and turnH7725 unto Jehovah your 1GodH430: for he is graciousH2587 and merciful, slow to angerH639, and of greatH7227 loving-kindness, and repenteth him of the evilH7451. 14Who knoweth? He might returnH7725 and repent, and leaveH7604 a blessingH1293 behind him, an oblation and a drink-offering for Jehovah your 2GodH430? 15BlowH8628 the trumpetH7782 in ZionH6726, hallow a fastH6685, proclaimH7121 a solemnH6116 assemblyH6116; 16gatherH6908 the peopleH5971, hallow the congregation, assemble the eldersH2205, gatherH6908 the childrenH5768, and those that suckH3243 the breastsH7699; let the bridegroom goH3318 forthH3318 from his chamberH2315, and the brideH3618 from her closet. 17Let the priestsH3548, the ministers of Jehovah, weepH1058 between the porchH197 and the altarH4196, and let them sayH559, Spare, O Jehovah, thy peopleH5971, and giveH5414 not thine inheritanceH5159 to reproachH2781, that they should be a byword of the nationsH1471. Wherefore should they sayH559 among the peoplesH5971, WhereH346 is their 3GodH430? 18Then Jehovah will be jealousH7065 for his landH776, and will have pityH2550 on his peopleH5971. 19And Jehovah will answerH6030 and sayH559 unto his peopleH5971, Behold, I sendH7971 you corn, and newH8492 wineH8492, and oilH3323, and ye shall be satisfiedH7646 therewith; and I will no more makeH5414 you a reproachH2781 among the nationsH1471. 20And I will removeH7368 farH7368 off from you him [that cometh] from the north, and will driveH5080 him into a landH776 barren and desolate, his faceH6440 toward the easternH6931 seaH3220, and his rear toward the hinder seaH3220; and his stenchH889 shall comeH5927 up, and his ill odour shall comeH5927 up, for he hath exalted himself to do greatH1431 thingsH1431. 21— FearH3372 not, O landH127; be gladH8055 and rejoiceH8055: for Jehovah doeth greatH1431 thingsH1431. 22Be not afraidH3372, ye beasts of the fieldH7704: for the pastures of the wildernessH4057 do spring; for the treeH6086 beareth its fruitH6529; the fig-tree and the vineH1612 yield full increase. 23And ye, children of ZionH6726, be gladH8055 and rejoiceH8055 in Jehovah your 4GodH430; for he giveth you the early rainH1653 in due measure, and he causeth to comeH3381 down for you the rainH1653, the early rainH1653, and the latter rainH1653 at the beginning [of the season]. 24And the floorsH1637 shall be fullH4390 of corn, and the vats shall overflowH7783 with newH8492 wineH8492 and oilH3323. 25And I will restore to you the yearsH8141 that the locustH697 hath eatenH398, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my greatH1419 armyH2428 which I sentH7971 among you. 26And ye shall eatH398 in plenty, and be satisfiedH7646, and praiseH1984 the nameH8034 of Jehovah your 5GodH430, who hath dealt wondrously with you: and my peopleH5971 shall never be ashamedH954. 27And ye shall knowH3045 that I am in the midstH7130 of IsraelH3478, and that I, Jehovah, [am] your 6GodH430, and there is none else: and my peopleH5971 shall never be ashamedH954. 28And it shall come to pass afterwards [that] I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. 29Yea, even upon the bondmen and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit. 30And I will shew wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31The sun shall be changed to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah come. 32And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of Jehovah shall be saved: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Jehovah hath said, and for the residue whom Jehovah shall call.
