2 Chronicles 2
Revised Version 1895
1Now SolomonH8010 purposed to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom. 2And SolomonH8010 toldH559 outH7971 threescore and ten thousand menH559 to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand menH559 that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. 3And Solomon sent to Huram the kingH5921 of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to buildH1129 him an houseH1004 to dwell therein, evenH5921 soH589 deal with meH6440. 4Behold, I buildH1129 an houseH1004 for the name of the LORD my GodH430, to dedicate it to him, and to burn beforeH430 him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offeringsH3588 morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the setH834 feasts of the LORD our GodH430. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel; 5And the houseH1004 whichH834 I buildH1129 is great: for great is our GodH3808 aboveH6440 all gods. 6But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn incense beforeH5973 him? 7NowH2009 therefore sendH7971 meH7971 a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that canH834 skill to grave allH3045 manner of gravings, to be with the cunning menH5650 that are with meH7971 in Judah and in Jerusalem, whomH834 DavidH5973 my father didH834 provide. 8Send meH589 also cedar treesH6086, fir treesH6086, and algum treesH6086, outH3559 of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants canH834 skill to cut timberH6086 in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants, 9even to prepare meH5414 timberH6086 in abundance: for the house whichH6086 I am aboutH6086 to build shall be wonderful great. 10And, behold, I will giveH5414 to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil. 11Then HuramH2361 the kingH4428 of Tyre answeredH559 in writing, whichH834 he sentH5414 to Solomon, BecauseH834 the LORDH3068 loveth his peopleH1121, he hath madeH6213 thee kingH4428 over them. 12HuramH2361 said moreover, Blessed be the LORD, the GodH7971 of Israel, that madeH3045 heaven and earth, who hath given to DavidH7971 the king a wiseH2450 sonH2450, endued with discretion and understandingH998, that should build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom. 13And nowH5414 I have sentH5414 a cunning manH376, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’sH1, 14the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stoneH834, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to devise any device: that there may be a place appointed unto him with thy cunning menH5650, and with the cunning menH5650 of my lordH113 DavidH7971 thy father. 15NowH935 therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, whichH6086 my lord hath spokenH935 of, let him sendH5927 unto his servants: 16and weH834 will cut wood outH3605 of Lebanon, as muchH834 as thou shalt needH376: and weH834 will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it upH3605 to Jerusalem. 17And Solomon numberedH505 allH505 the strangers that were in the land of IsraelH5971, afterH1992 the numbering wherewith David his father had numberedH505 them; and they were found an hundredH3967 and fifty thousandH505 and threeH7969 thousandH505 and sixH8337 hundredH3967. 18And he set threescore, and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people awork.
