1Then the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Abramאַבְרָ֔ם'av.RamH87, “Leaveלֶךְ־lekh-H1980yourcountryמֵאַרְצְךָ֥me.'ar.tze.KhaH776,your kindredוּמִמּֽוֹלַדְתְּךָ֖u.mi.mo.lad.te.KhaH4138,and your father’sאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1householdוּמִבֵּ֣יתu.mi.BeitH1004,and go toאֶל־'el-H413the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I will show youאַרְאֶֽךָּ׃'ar.'E.kaH7200.

2I will makeוְאֶֽעֶשְׂךָ֙ve.'e.'es.KhaH6213you into a greatגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419nationלְג֣וֹיle.GoyH1471,and I will bless youוַאֲבָ֣רֶכְךָ֔va.'a.Va.rekh.khaH1288;I will make your nameשְׁמֶ֑ךָshe.Me.khaH8034greatוַאֲגַדְּלָ֖הva.'a.ga.de.LahH1431,so that you will beוֶהְיֵ֖הveh.YehH1961a blessingבְּרָכָֽה׃be.ra.KhahH1293.

3I will blessוַאֲבָֽרֲכָה֙va.'a.va.ra.KhahH1288those who bless youמְבָ֣רְכֶ֔יךָme.Va.re.Khei.khaH1288and curseאָאֹ֑ר'a.'OrH779those who curse youוּמְקַלֶּלְךָ֖u.me.ka.lel.ChaH7043;and allכֹּ֖לkolH3605the familiesמִשְׁפְּחֹ֥תmish.pe.ChotH4940of the earthהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ha.'a.da.MahH127will be blessedוְנִבְרְכ֣וּve.niv.re.KhuH1288through you.”

4So Abramאַבְרָ֗ם'av.RamH87departedוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֨רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had directed himדִּבֶּ֤ר אֵלָיו֙di.Ber 'e.LavH1696 H413,and Lotל֑וֹטLotH3876wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980with himאִתּ֖וֹ'i.ToH854.Abramוְאַבְרָ֗םve.'av.RamH87was seventy-fiveחָמֵ֤שׁ וְשִׁבְעִ֣יםcha.Mesh ve.shiv.'ImH2568 H7657yearsשָׁנִים֙sha.NimH8141oldבֶּן־ שָׁנָ֔הben- sha.NahH1121 H8141when he leftבְּצֵאת֖וֹbe.tze.ToH3318Haranמֵחָרָֽן׃me.cha.RanH2771.

5And Abramאַבְרָם֩'av.RamH87tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947אֶת־'et-H853his wifeאִשְׁתּ֜וֹ'ish.ToH802וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853Saraiשָׂרַ֨יsa.RaiH8297,his nephewבֶּן־ אָחִ֗יוben- 'a.ChivH1121 H251וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853Lotל֣וֹטLotH3876,and allכָּל־kol-H3605the possessionsרְכוּשָׁם֙re.khu.ShamH7399אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834רָכָ֔שׁוּra.Kha.shuH7408וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and peopleהַנֶּ֖פֶשׁha.Ne.feshH5315אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834they had acquiredעָשׂ֣וּ'a.SuH6213in Haranבְחָרָ֑ןve.cha.RanH2771,and set outוַיֵּצְא֗וּ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙vai.ye.tze.'U la.Le.khetH3318 H1980for the landאַ֣רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776of Canaanכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667.When they cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to the landאַ֥רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776of Canaanכְּנָֽעַן׃ke.Na.'anH3667,

6Abramאַבְרָם֙'av.RamH87traveledוַיַּעֲבֹ֤רvai.ya.'a.VorH5674through the landבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776as far asעַ֚ד'adH5704the siteמְק֣וֹםme.KomH4725עַ֖ד'adH5704of the Oakאֵל֣וֹן'e.LonH436of Morehמוֹרֶ֑הmo.RehH4176at Shechemשְׁכֶ֔םshe.KhemH7927.And at that timeאָ֥ז'azH227the Canaanitesוְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖יve.ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669were in the landבָּאָֽרֶץ׃ba.'A.retzH776.

7Then the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068appearedוַיֵּרָ֤אvai.ye.Ra'H7200toאֶל־'el-H413Abramאַבְרָ֔ם'av.RamH87and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will giveאֶתֵּ֖ן'e.TenH5414אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֹּ֑אתha.ZotH2063landהָאָ֣רֶץha.'A.retzH776to your offspringלְזַ֨רְעֲךָ֔le.Zar.'a.khaH2233.”So Abram builtוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֔חַmiz.Be.achH4196thereשָׁם֙shamH8033to the LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068,who had appearedהַנִּרְאֶ֥הha.nir.'EhH7200to himאֵלָֽיו׃'e.LavH413.

8From thereמִשָּׁ֜םmi.ShamH8033Abrammoved onוַיַּעְתֵּ֨קvai.ya'.TekH6275to the hill countryהָהָ֗רָהha.Ha.rahH2022eastמִקֶּ֛דֶםmi.Ke.demH6924ofH1008BethelH1008and pitchedוַיֵּ֣טvai.YetH5186his tentאָהְָל֑וֹ'o.ho.LoH168,with BethelH1008to the westמִיָּם֙mi.YamH3220and Aiוְהָעַ֣יve.ha.'AiH5857to the eastמִקֶּ֔דֶםmi.Ke.demH6924.Thereשָׁ֤םshamH8033he builtוַיִּֽבֶן־vai.yi.ven-H1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙miz.Be.achH4196to the LORDלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,and he calledוַיִּקְרָ֖אvai.yik.Ra'H7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֥םbe.ShemH8034of the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

9And Abramאַבְרָ֔ם'av.RamH87journeyed onוַיִּסַּ֣ע הָל֥וֹךְvai.yi.Sa' ha.LokhH5265 H1980towardוְנָס֖וֹעַve.na.So.a'H5265the Negevהַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃ פha.Neg.bahH5045.

10Now there wasוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961a famineרָעָ֖בra.'AvH7458in the landבָּאָ֑רֶץba.'A.retzH776.So Abramאַבְרָ֤ם'av.RamH87went downוַיֵּ֨רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381to Egyptמִצְרַ֙יְמָה֙mitz.Ray.mahH4714to live thereשָׁ֔םShamH8033for a whileלָג֣וּרla.GurH1481becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the famineהָרָעָ֖בha.ra.'AvH7458בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ba.'A.retzH776was severeכָבֵ֥דkha.VedH3515.

11וַיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961Asכַּאֲשֶׁ֥רka.'a.SherH834he was aboutהִקְרִ֖יבhik.RivH7126to enterלָב֣וֹאla.Vo'H935Egyptמִצְרָ֑יְמָהmitz.Ra.ye.mahH4714,he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413his wifeאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ'ish.ToH802Saraiשָׂרַ֣יsa.RaiH8297, “Lookהִנֵּה־ נָ֣אhi.neh- na'H2009 H4994,I knowיָדַ֔עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045thatכִּ֛יkiH3588youאָֽתְּ׃'AtH859area beautifulיְפַת־ מַרְאֶ֖הye.fat- mar.'EhH3303 H4758womanאִשָּׁ֥ה'i.ShahH802,

12andוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Egyptiansהַמִּצְרִ֔יםha.mitz.RimH4713see youיִרְא֤וּyir.'UH7200אֹתָךְ֙'o.toKhH853,they will sayוְאָמְר֖וּve.'a.me.RuH559, ‘Thisזֹ֑אתZotH2063is his wifeאִשְׁתּ֣וֹ'ish.ToH802.’Then they will killוְהָרְג֥וּve.ha.re.GuH2026meאֹתִ֖י'o.TiH853butוְאֹתָ֥ךְve.'o.TakhH853will let you liveיְחַיּֽוּ׃ye.chai.YuH2421.

13Pleaseנָ֖אna'H4994sayאִמְרִי־'im.ri-H559you areאָ֑תְּ'AtH859my sisterאֲחֹ֣תִי'a.Cho.tiH269,so thatלְמַ֙עַן֙le.Ma.'anH4616I will be treated wellיִֽיטַב־yi.tav-H3190for your sakeבַעֲבוּרֵ֔ךְva.'a.vu.RekhH5668,and on account of youבִּגְלָלֵֽךְ׃big.la.LekhH1558my lifeנַפְשִׁ֖יnaf.ShiH5315will be sparedוְחָיְתָ֥הve.cha.ye.TahH2421.”

14Soוַיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961when Abramאַבְרָ֖ם'av.RamH87enteredכְּב֥וֹאke.Vo'H935Egyptמִצְרָ֑יְמָהmitz.Ra.ye.mahH4714,the Egyptiansהַמִּצְרִים֙ha.mitz.RimH4713אֶת־'et-H853sawוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588the womanהָ֣אִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802was veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966beautifulיָפָ֥ה הִ֖ואya.Fah hi'H3303 H1931.

15When Pharaoh’sפַרְעֹ֔הfar.'OhH6547officialsשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269sawוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200Saraiאֹתָהּ֙'o.TahH853,they commendedוַיְהַֽלְל֥וּvay.ha.LuH1984herאֹתָ֖הּ'o.TahH853toאֶל־'el-H413himפַּרְעֹ֑הpar.'OhH6547,and sheהָאִשָּׁ֖הha.'i.ShahH802was takenוַתֻּקַּ֥חva.tu.KachH3947into the palaceבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Pharaohפַּרְעֹֽה׃par.'OhH6547.

16He treated Abramוּלְאַבְרָ֥םul.'av.RamH87wellהֵיטִ֖יבhei.TivH3190on her accountבַּעֲבוּרָ֑הּba.'a.vu.RahH5668,and Abram acquiredוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961sheepצֹאן־tzon-H6629and cattleוּבָקָר֙u.va.KarH1241,male and female donkeysוַחֲמֹרִ֔ים וַאֲתֹנֹ֖תva.cha.mo.Rim va.'a.to.NotH2543 H860,menservantsוַעֲבָדִים֙va.'a.va.DimH5650and maidservantsוּשְׁפָחֹ֔תu.she.fa.ChotH8198,and camelsוּגְמַלִּֽים׃u.ge.ma.LimH1581.

17The LORD, howeverיְהוָ֧ה׀Yah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853,afflictedוַיְנַגַּ֨עvay.na.Ga'H5060Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֛הpar.'OhH6547and his householdבֵּית֑וֹbei.ToH1004with severeגְּדֹלִ֖יםge.do.LimH1419וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853plaguesנְגָעִ֥יםne.ga.'ImH5061because ofעַל־ דְּבַ֥ר'al- de.VarH5921 H1697Abram’sאַבְרָֽם׃'av.RamH87wifeאֵ֥שֶׁת'E.shetH802Saraiשָׂרַ֖יsa.RaiH8297.

18So Pharaohפַרְעֹה֙far.'OhH6547summonedוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Abramלְאַבְרָ֔םle.'av.RamH87and askedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמַה־ זֹּ֖אתmah- zotH4100 H2063have you doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213to me?Whyלָ֚מָּהLa.mahH4100didn’tלֹא־lo'-H3808you tellהִגַּ֣דְתָּhi.Gad.taH5046meכִּ֥יkiH3588sheהִֽוא׃hi'H1931was your wifeאִשְׁתְּךָ֖'ish.te.KhaH802?

19Whyלָמָ֤הla.MahH4100did you sayאָמַ֙רְתָּ֙'a.Mar.taH559, ‘She isהִ֔ואhi'H1931my sisterאֲחֹ֣תִי'a.Cho.tiH269,’so that I tookוָאֶקַּ֥חva.'e.KachH3947herאֹתָ֛הּ'o.TahH853as mywifeלְאִשָּׁ֑הle.'i.ShahH802?Now thenוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258,hereהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009is your wifeאִשְׁתְּךָ֖'ish.te.KhaH802.Take herקַ֥חkachH3947and goוָלֵֽךְ׃va.LekhH1980!”

20Then Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֖הpar.'OhH6547gave his menאֲנָשִׁ֑ים'a.na.ShimH582ordersוַיְצַ֥וvay.TzavH6680concerningעָלָ֛יו'a.LavH5921Abram,and they sent him awayוַֽיְשַׁלְּח֥וּ אֹת֛וֹvay.sha.le.Chu 'o.ToH7971 H853וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853with his wifeאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ'ish.ToH802וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and all his possessionsכָּל־kol-H3605אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834.
