2They had taken captiveוַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּvai.yish.BuH7617אֶת־'et-H853the womenהַנָּשִׁ֤יםha.na.ShimH802and allwho wereאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834there,both youngמִקָּטֹ֣ןmi.ka.TonH6996andוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704oldגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419.They had not killedלֹ֥א הֵמִ֖יתוּlo' he.Mi.tuH4191 H3808anyoneאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376,but had carried them offוַיִּֽנְהֲג֔וּvai.yin.ha.GuH5090as they wentוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980on their wayלְדַרְכָּֽם׃le.dar.KamH1870.

3When Davidדָוִ֤דda.VidH1732and his menוַֽאֲנָשָׁיו֙va.'a.na.ShavH582cameוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,they foundוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009it burned downשְׂרוּפָ֖ה בָּאֵ֑שׁse.ru.Fah ba.'EshH8313 H784and their wivesוּנְשֵׁיהֶ֛םu.ne.shei.HemH802and sonsוּבְנֵיהֶ֥םu.ve.nei.HemH1121and daughtersוּבְנֹתֵיהֶ֖םu.ve.no.tei.HemH1323taken captiveנִשְׁבּֽוּ׃nish.BuH7617.

4So Davidדָוִ֜דda.VidH1732and the troopsוְהָעָ֧םve.ha.'AmH5971אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834with himאִתּ֛וֹ'i.ToH854אֶת־'et-H853lifted upוַיִּשָּׂ֨אvai.yi.Sa'H5375their voicesקוֹלָ֖םko.LamH6963and weptוַיִּבְכּ֑וּvai.yiv.KuH1058untilעַ֣ד'adH5704אֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834they had noאֵין־'ein-H369strengthכֹּ֖חַKo.achH3581left to weepלִבְכּֽוֹת׃liv.KotH1058.

5David’sדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732twoוּשְׁתֵּ֥יu.she.TeiH8147wivesנְשֵֽׁי־ne.shei-H802,Ahinoamאֲחִינֹ֙עַם֙'a.chi.No.'amH293of Jezreelהַיִּזְרְעֵלִ֔יתhai.yiz.re.'e.LitH3158and Abigailוַאֲבִיגַ֕יִלva.'a.vi.Ga.yilH26the widowאֵ֖שֶׁת'E.shetH802of Nabalנָבָ֥לna.ValH5037of Carmelהַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי׃Ha.kar.me.LiH3761,had been taken captiveנִשְׁבּ֑וּnish.BuH7617.

6And Davidלְדָוִ֜דle.da.VidH1732was greatlyמְאֹ֗דme.'OdH3966distressedוַתֵּ֨צֶרva.Te.tzerH3334becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971spokeאָמְר֤וּ'a.me.RuH559of stoning himלְסָקְל֔וֹle.sa.ke.LoH5619,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the soulנֶ֣פֶשׁNe.feshH5315of every manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376grievedמָ֙רָה֙ma.rahH4784כָּל־kol-H3605הָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971forעַל־'al-H5921his sonsבָּנָ֣יוbe.novH1121andוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921daughtersבְּנֹתָ֑יוbe.no.TavH1323.But Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732found strengthוַיִּתְחַזֵּ֣קvai.yit.cha.ZekH2388in the LORDבַּיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָֽיו׃ ס'e.lo.HavH430.

7Then Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Abiatharאֶבְיָתָ֤ר'ev.ya.TarH54the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahimelechאֲחִימֶ֔לֶךְ'a.chi.Me.lekhH288, “Bringהַגִּֽישָׁה־ נָּ֥אha.gi.shah- na'H5066 H4994methe ephodהָאֵפֹ֑דha.'e.FodH646.”So Abiatharאֶבְיָתָ֛ר'ev.ya.TarH54אֶת־'et-H853broughtוַיַּגֵּ֧שׁvai.ya.GeshH5066itהָאֵפֹ֖דha.'e.FodH646toאֶל־'el-H413himדָּוִֽד׃da.VidH1732,

8and Davidדָּוִ֤דda.VidH1732inquiredוַיִּשְׁאַ֨לvai.yish.'AlH7592of the LORDבַּֽיהוָה֙ba.Yah.wehH3068לֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559: “Should I pursueאֶרְדֹּ֛ף אַחֲרֵ֥י'er.Dof 'a.cha.ReiH7291 H310theseהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088raidersהַגְּדוּד־ha.ge.dud-H1416?Will I overtake themH5381?” “Pursue themרְדֹ֔ףre.DofH7291כִּֽי־ki-H3588,” the LORDrepliedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “for you will surely overtake themH5381and rescue the captivesH5337.”
