1 Chronicles 11
American Standard Version
1Then all IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 themselves to DavidH1732 unto HebronH2275, sayingH559, Behold, we are thy boneH6106 and thy fleshH1320. 2In times past, even when SaulH7586 wasH1961 kingH4428, it wasH1961 thou that leddest out and broughtest in IsraelH3478: and Jehovah thy GodH430 saidH559 unto thee, Thou shalt beH1961 shepherdH7462 of my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt beH1961 princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 3So all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them in HebronH2275 before Jehovah; and they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah by SamuelH8050.
4And DavidH1732 and all IsraelH3478 went to JerusalemH3389 (the same is JebusH2982); and the Jebusites, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, were there. 5And the inhabitantsH3427 of JebusH2982 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Thou shalt not comeH935 in hither. Nevertheless DavidH1732 tookH3920 the stronghold of ZionH6726; the same is the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 6And DavidH1732 saidH559, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites firstH7223 shall beH1961 chiefH7218 and captain. And JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 wentH5927 up firstH7223, and wasH1961 made chiefH7218. 7And DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the strongholdH4679; thereforeH3651 they calledH7121 it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And he builtH1129 the cityH5892 roundH5439 about, from MilloH4407 even roundH5439 about; and JoabH3097 repaired the restH7605 of the cityH5892. 9And DavidH1732 waxed greaterH1419 and greaterH1419; for Jehovah of hostsH6635 was with him.
10Now these are the chiefH7218 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 whom DavidH1732 had, who showed themselves strongH2388 with him in his kingdomH4438, together with all IsraelH3478, to makeH2388 him kingH4427, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah concerning IsraelH3478. 11And this is the numberH4557 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 whom DavidH1732 had: JashobeamH3434, the sonH1121 of a Hachmonite, the chiefH7218 of the thirtyH7970; he lifted up his spearH2595 against threeH7969 hundredH3967 and slew them at oneH259 timeH6471. 12And after him was EleazarH499 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734, the AhohiteH266, who was one of the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368. 13He wasH1961 with DavidH1732 at Pasdammim, and there the PhilistinesH6430 wereH1961 gatheredH622 together to battleH4421, where wasH1961 a plot of ground fullH4392 of barleyH8184; and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 from before the PhilistinesH6430. 14And they stoodH3320 in the midstH8432 of the plot, and defended it, and slew the PhilistinesH6430; and Jehovah savedH3467 them by a greatH1419 victoryH8668.
15And threeH7969 of the thirtyH7970 chiefH7218 men wentH3381 downH3381 to the rockH6697 to DavidH1732, into the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725; and the host of the PhilistinesH6430 were encampedH2583 in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 16And DavidH1732 was thenH227 in the stronghold, and the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430 was thenH227 in Beth-lehem. 17And DavidH1732 longed, and saidH559, Oh that oneH834 would giveH8248 me waterH4325 to drinkH8248 of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gateH8179! 18And the threeH7969 brake through the host of the PhilistinesH6430, and drewH7579 waterH4325 out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gateH8179, and tookH5375 it, and broughtH935 it to DavidH1732: but DavidH1732 wouldH14 not drinkH8354 thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah, 19and saidH559, My GodH430 forbid it me, that I should do this: shall I drinkH8354 the bloodH1818 of these menH376 that have put their livesH5315 in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they broughtH935 it. Therefore he wouldH14 not drinkH8354 it. These thingsH428 did the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH376.
20And AbishaiH52, the brotherH251 of JoabH3097, he was chiefH7218 of the threeH7969; for he lifted up his spearH2595 against threeH7969 hundredH3967 and slew them, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969. 21Of the threeH7969, he wasH1961 moreH4480 honorable than the twoH8147, and wasH1961 madeH3513 their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first threeH7969.
22BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, the sonH1121 of a valiant manH376 of KabzeelH6909, who had done mighty deedsH6467, he slew the twoH8147sonsH1121 ofAriel of MoabH4124: he wentH3381 downH3381 also and slew a lionH738 in the midstH8432 of a pitH953 in time of snowH7950. 23And he slewH2026 an EgyptianH4713, a manH376 of great stature, fiveH2568 cubitsH520 high; and in the Egyptian’s handH3027 was a spearH2595 like a weaver’sH707 beamH4500; and he wentH3381 downH3381 to him with a staffH7626, and plucked the spearH2595 out of the Egyptian’s handH3027, and slewH2026 him with his own spearH2595. 24These thingsH428 did BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368. 25Behold, he was moreH4480 honorable than the thirtyH7970, but he attained not to the first threeH7969: and DavidH1732 setH7760 him over his guard.
26Also the mightyH1368 menH1368 of the armiesH2428: AsahelH6214 the brotherH251 of JoabH3097, ElhananH445 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734 of Beth-lehem, 27Shammoth the Harorite, HelezH2503 the PeloniteH6397, 28IraH5896 the sonH1121 of IkkeshH6142 the TekoiteH8621, AbiezerH44 the AnathothiteH6069, 29SibbecaiH5444 the HushathiteH2843, Ilai the AhohiteH266, 30MaharaiH4121 the NetophathiteH5200, Heled the sonH1121 of BaanahH1196 the NetophathiteH5200, 31Ithai the sonH1121 of RibaiH7380 of GibeahH1390 of the children of BenjaminH1144, BenaiahH1141 the PirathoniteH6553, 32Hurai of the brooks of GaashH1608, AbielH22 the ArbathiteH6164, 33AzmavethH5820 the Baharumite, EliahbaH455 the ShaalboniteH8170, 34the sonsH1121 of Hashem the Gizonite, JonathanH3129 the sonH1121 of Shagee the HarariteH2043, 35AhiamH279 the sonH1121 of Sacar the HarariteH2043, Eliphal the sonH1121 of Ur, 36HepherH2660 the Mecherathite, AhijahH281 the PeloniteH6397, 37Hezro the CarmeliteH3761, Naarai the sonH1121 of Ezbai, 38JoelH3100 the brotherH251 of NathanH5416, Mibhar the sonH1121 of Hagri, 39ZelekH6768 the AmmoniteH5984, NaharaiH5171 the Berothite, the armorbearer of JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, 40IraH5896 the IthriteH3505, GarebH1619 the IthriteH3505, 41UriahH223 the HittiteH2850, ZabadH2066 the sonH1121 of AhlaiH304, 42Adina the sonH1121 of Shiza the ReubeniteH7206, a chiefH7218 of the Reubenites, and thirtyH7970 with him, 43HananH2605 the sonH1121 of MaacahH4601, and JoshaphatH3146 the Mithnite, 44Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and JeielH3273 the sonsH1121 of HothamH2369 the Aroerite, 45JediaelH3043 the sonH1121 of ShimriH8113, and JohaH3109 his brotherH251, the Tizite, 46ElielH447 the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sonsH1121 of Elnaam, and Ithmah the MoabiteH4125, 47ElielH447, and ObedH5744, and JaasielH3300 the Mezobaite.
