1 Chronicles 17

American Standard Version

1And it came to pass, when DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in his houseH1004, that DavidH1732 saidH559 to NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, Lo, I dwellH3427 in a houseH1004 of cedar, but the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of Jehovah dwelleth under curtainsH3407. 2And NathanH5416 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, Do all that is in thy heartH3824; for GodH430 is with thee. 3And it came to pass the same nightH3915, that the wordH1697 of GodH430 came to NathanH5416, sayingH559, 4Go and tell DavidH1732 my servantH5650, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not buildH1129 me a houseH1004 to dwellH3427 in: 5for I have not dweltH3427 in a houseH1004 since the dayH3117 that I broughtH5927 up IsraelH3478, unto this dayH3117, but have goneH5927 from tentH168 to tentH168, and from oneH2088 tabernacleH4908 to another. 6In all places wherein I have walkedH1980 with all IsraelH3478, spake I a wordH1697 with any of the judgesH8199 of IsraelH3478, whom I commandedH6680 to be shepherdH7462 of my peopleH5971, sayingH559, WhyH4100 have ye not builtH1129 me a houseH1004 of cedar? 7NowH6258 thereforeH6258 thusH3541 shalt thou sayH559 unto my servantH5650 DavidH1732, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, I tookH3947 thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheepH6629, that thou shouldest beH1961 princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478: 8and I have beenH1961 with thee whithersoever thou hast goneH1980, and have cutH3772 off all thine enemiesH341 from before thee; and I will makeH6213 thee a nameH8034, like unto the nameH8034 of the greatH1419 ones that are in the earthH776. 9And I will appointH7760 a placeH4725 for my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and will plantH5193 them, that they may dwellH7931 in their own placeH4725, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the firstH7223, 10and as from the dayH3117 that I commandedH6680 judgesH8199 to be over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; and I will subdueH3665 all thine enemiesH341. Moreover I tellH5046 thee that Jehovah will buildH1129 thee a houseH1004. 11And it shall come to pass, when thy daysH3117 are fulfilled that thou must go to beH1961 with thy fathersH1, that I will setH6965 up thy seedH2233 after thee, who shall beH1961 of thy sonsH1121; and I will establishH6965 his kingdomH4438. 12He shall buildH1129 me a houseH1004, and I will establishH3559 his throneH3678 for everH5769. 13I will beH1961 his fatherH1, and he shall beH1961 my sonH1121: and I will not take my lovingkindness awayH5493 from him, as I took it from him that wasH1961 before thee; 14but I will settle him in my houseH1004 and in my kingdomH4438 for everH5769; and his throneH3678 shall beH1961 establishedH3559 for everH5769. 15According to all these wordsH1697, and according to all this visionH2377, soH3651 did NathanH5416 speakH1696 unto DavidH1732.

16Then DavidH1732 the kingH4428 wentH935 in, and satH3427 before Jehovah; and he saidH559, Who am I, O Jehovah GodH430, and what is my houseH1004, that thou hast broughtH935 me thus far? 17And this was a smallH6994 thing in thine eyesH5869, O GodH430; but thou hast spokenH1696 of thy servant’sH5650 houseH1004 for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a manH120 of high degree, O Jehovah GodH430. 18What can DavidH1732 say yetH5750 more unto thee concerningH413 the honorH3519 which is done to thy servantH5650? for thou knowest thy servantH5650. 19O Jehovah, for thy servant’sH5650 sakeH5668, and according to thine own heartH3820, hast thou wrought all this greatnessH1420, to makeH6213 knownH3045 all these great things. 20O Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any GodH430 besides thee, according to all that we have heardH8085 with our earsH241. 21And what oneH259 nationH1471 in the earthH776 is like thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whom GodH430 wentH1980 to redeemH6299 unto himself for a peopleH5971, to makeH7760 thee a nameH8034 by great and terrible things, in drivingH1644 out nationsH1471 from before thy peopleH5971, whom thou redeemedst out of EgyptH4714? 22For thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 didst thou makeH5414 thine own peopleH5971 for everH5769; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their GodH430. 23And nowH6258, O Jehovah, let the wordH1697 that thou hast spokenH1696 concerning thy servantH5650, and concerning his houseH1004, be establishedH539 for everH5769, and do as thou hast spokenH1696. 24And let thy nameH8034 be establishedH3559 and magnifiedH1431 for everH5769, sayingH559, Jehovah of hostsH6635 is the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, even a GodH430 to IsraelH3478: and the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 thy servantH5650 is establishedH3559 before thee. 25For thou, O my GodH430, hast revealedH1540 to thy servantH5650 that thou wilt buildH1129 him a houseH1004: thereforeH3651 hath thy servantH5650 foundH4672 in his heart to prayH6419 before thee. 26And nowH6258, O Jehovah, thou art GodH430, and hast promised this goodH2896 thing unto thy servantH5650: 27and nowH6258 it hath pleased thee to blessH1288 the houseH1004 of thy servantH5650, that it may continue for everH5769 before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessedH1288, and it is blessedH1288 for everH5769.
