Read 1 Chronicles 11 in the Bible

1 Chronicles 11:1-3

David first became king of Judah in Hebron and ruled there for seven and a half years (1 Chronicles 3:4; 2 Samuel 5:5). The Chronicler does not include the details of that time (see 2 Samuel 2–4) and instead focuses on David’s 33 and a half years ruling the entire nation. This began with his agreement with all the elders of Israel at Hebron (see 2 Samuel 5:1–5).

1 Chronicles 11:4-9

David conquered and rebuilt Jerusalem, making it the capital city of his rule over all of Israel.

1 Chronicles 11:10-47

This story about David's mighty warriors shows that Israel's best and bravest men supported him, along with all of Israel (compare 2 Samuel 23:8–39).

1 Chronicles 11:10

As the Lord promised, God chose David to be king, not David or the people (compare 1 Chronicles 11:3; 1 Samuel 16:11–14).

1 Chronicles 11:41-47

Zabad...Jaasiel: These warriors, not mentioned in 2 Samuel 23, came from places east of the Jordan River. David had strong support from all the tribes of Israel and from foreigners.
