1 Chronicles 11
Revised Version 1895
1Then allH3605 IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 themselvesH6908 to DavidH1732 unto HebronH2275, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, weH587 are thy boneH6106 and thy fleshH1320. 2In times pastH8543, evenH1571 when SaulH7586 was kingH4428, it was thou that leddest outH3318 and broughtest in IsraelH3478: and the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 saidH559 unto thee, Thou shalt feedH7462 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt be princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 3SoH935 allH3605 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them in HebronH2275 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, accordingH5921 to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 by the handH3027 of SamuelH8050. 4And DavidH1732 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 went to JerusalemH3389 (the sameH1931 is JebusH2982); and the JebusitesH2983, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, were there. 5And the inhabitantsH3427 of JebusH2982 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Thou shalt notH3808 comeH935 in hither. Nevertheless DavidH1732 tookH3920 the strong hold of ZionH6726; the sameH1931 is the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 6And DavidH1732 saidH559, Whosoever smiteth the JebusitesH2983 firstH7223 shall be chiefH7218 and captainH8269. And JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 wentH5927 upH5927 firstH7223, and was madeH1961 chiefH7218. 7And DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the strong hold; therefore they calledH7121 it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And he builtH1129 the cityH5892 roundH5439 aboutH5439, from MilloH4407 evenH5704 roundH5439 aboutH5439: and JoabH3097 repaired the restH7605 of the cityH5892. 9And DavidH1732 waxed greaterH1419 and greaterH1419; for the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 was with him. 10Now theseH428 are the chiefH7218 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 whomH834 DavidH1732 had, who shewed themselvesH428 strongH2388 with him in his kingdomH4438, togetherH5973 with allH3605 IsraelH3478, to makeH2388 him kingH4427, accordingH5921 to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 concerning IsraelH3478. 11And this is the numberH4557 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 whomH834 DavidH1732 had: JashobeamH3434, the sonH1121 of a HachmoniteH2453, the chiefH7218 of the thirtyH7970; he liftedH5782 upH5921 his spearH2595 againstH5921 threeH7969 hundredH3967 and slew them at one time. 12And afterH310 him was EleazarH499 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734, the AhohiteH266, who was one of the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368. 13He was with DavidH1732 at PasdammimH6450, and there the PhilistinesH6430 were gatheredH622 togetherH622 to battleH4421, whereH8033 was a plotH2513 of groundH7704 fullH4392 of barleyH8184; and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 from beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430. 14And they stoodH3320 in the midstH8432 of the plotH2513, and defendedH5337 it, and slewH5221 the PhilistinesH6430; and the LORDH3068 savedH3467 them by a greatH1419 victoryH8668. 15And threeH7969 of the thirtyH7970 chiefH7218 wentH3381 downH3381 to the rockH6697 to DavidH1732, intoH413 the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725; and the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 were encampedH2583 in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 16And DavidH1732 was then in the hold, and the garrisonH5333 of the PhilistinesH6430 was then in Beth-lehem. 17And DavidH1732 longedH183, and saidH559, OhH4310 that one would giveH8248 meH8248 waterH4325 to drinkH8248 of the wellH834 of Beth-lehem, whichH834 is by the gateH8179! 18And the threeH7969 brake throughH935 the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, and drewH7579 waterH4325 outH413 of the wellH834 of Beth-lehem, that was by the gateH8179, and tookH5375 it, and broughtH935 it to DavidH1732: but DavidH1732 would notH3808 drinkH8354 thereof, but poured it outH413 unto the LORDH3068, 19and saidH559, My GodH430 forbidH2486 it meH5315, that I should doH6213 this: shall I drinkH8354 the bloodH1818 of theseH428 menH376 that have putH935 their livesH5315 in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their livesH5315 they broughtH935 it. Therefore he would notH3808 drinkH8354 it. TheseH428 things didH6213 the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH376. 20And AbishaiH52, the brotherH251 of JoabH3097, he was chiefH7218 of the threeH7969: for he liftedH5782 upH5921 his spearH2595 againstH5921 threeH7969 hundredH3967 and slew them, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969. 21Of the threeH7969, he was moreH4480 honourable thanH4480 the twoH8147 and was madeH3513 their captainH8269: howbeit he attained notH3808 to the first threeH7969. 22BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, the sonH1121 of a valiantH2428 manH376 of KabzeelH6909, who had doneH6467 mightyH2428 deedsH6467, he slewH5221 the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of ArielH739 of MoabH4124: he wentH3381 downH3381 also and slewH5221 a lionH738 in the midstH8432 of a pitH953 in time of snowH7950. 23And he slewH2026 an EgyptianH4713, a manH376 of great stature, fiveH2568 cubitsH520 high; and in the Egyptian’sH4713 handH3027 was a spearH2595 like a weaver’sH707 beamH4500; and he wentH3381 downH3381 to him with a staffH7626, and plucked the spearH2595 outH413 of the Egyptian’sH4713 handH3027, and slewH2026 him with his ownH376 spearH2595. 24TheseH428 things didH6213 BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368. 25BeholdH2005, he was moreH4480 honourable thanH4480 the thirtyH7970, but he attained notH3808 to the first threeH7969: and DavidH1732 setH7760 him over his guardH4928. 26Also the mightyH1368 menH1368 of the armiesH2428; AsahelH6214 the brotherH251 of JoabH3097, ElhananH445 the sonH1121 of DodoH1734 of Beth-lehem; 27ShammothH8054 the HaroriteH2033, HelezH2503 the PeloniteH6397; 28IraH5896 the sonH1121 of IkkeshH6142 the TekoiteH8621, AbiezerH44 the AnathothiteH6069; 29SibbecaiH5444 the HushathiteH2843, IlaiH5866 the AhohiteH266; 30MaharaiH4121 the NetophathiteH5200, HeledH2466 the sonH1121 of BaanahH1196 the NetophathiteH5200; 31IthaiH863 the sonH1121 of RibaiH7380 of GibeahH1390 of the childrenH1121 of BenjaminH1144, BenaiahH1141 the PirathoniteH6553; 32HuraiH2360 of the brooks of GaashH1608, AbielH22 the ArbathiteH6164; 33AzmavethH5820 the BaharumiteH978, EliahbaH455 the ShaalboniteH8170; 34the sonsH1121 of HashemH2044 the GizoniteH1493, JonathanH3129 the sonH1121 of Shage the HarariteH2043; 35AhiamH279 the sonH1121 of SacarH7940 the HarariteH2043, EliphalH465 the sonH1121 of Ur; 36HepherH2660 the MecherathiteH4382, AhijahH281 the PeloniteH6397; 37HezroH2695 the CarmeliteH3761, NaaraiH5293 the sonH1121 of EzbaiH229; 38JoelH3100 the brotherH251 of NathanH5416, MibharH4006 the sonH1121 of HagriH1905; 39ZelekH6768 the AmmoniteH5984, NaharaiH5171 the Berothite, the armourbearer of JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870; 40IraH5896 the IthriteH3505, GarebH1619 the IthriteH3505; 41UriahH223 the HittiteH2850, ZabadH2066 the sonH1121 of AhlaiH304; 42AdinaH5721 the sonH1121 of ShizaH7877 the ReubeniteH7206, a chiefH7218 of the ReubenitesH7206, and thirtyH7970 with him; 43HananH2605 the sonH1121 of MaacahH4601, and JoshaphatH3146 the MithniteH4981; 44UzziaH5814 the AshterathiteH6254, ShamaH8091 and JeielH3273 the sonsH1121 of HothamH2369 the AroeriteH6200; 45JediaelH3043 the sonH1121 of ShimriH8113, and JohaH3109 his brotherH251, the TiziteH8491; 46ElielH447 the MahaviteH4233, and JeribaiH3403, and JoshaviahH3145, the sonsH1121 of ElnaamH493, and IthmahH3495 the MoabiteH4125; 47ElielH447, and ObedH5744, and JaasielH3300 the MezobaiteH4677.
