Ezekiel 16
Revised Version 1895
1AgainH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto meH413, sayingH559, 2SonH1121 of manH120, cause JerusalemH3389 to knowH3045 herH3045 abominationsH8441, 3and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 GODH136 unto JerusalemH3389: Thy birthH4138 and thy nativity is of the landH776 of the CanaaniteH3669; the AmoriteH567 was thy fatherH1, and thy motherH517 was an HittiteH2850. 4And as for thy nativity, in the dayH3117 thou wast bornH3205 thy navelH8270 was notH3808 cutH3772, neitherH3808 wast thou washedH7364 in waterH4325 to cleanse thee; thou wast notH3808 salted at allH3117, norH3808 swaddled at allH3117. 5NoneH3808 eyeH5869 pitied thee, to doH6213 anyH259 of theseH428 unto thee, to have compassionH2550 uponH5921 thee; but thou wast castH7993 outH6440 in the openH6440 fieldH7704, for that thy personH5315 was abhorredH1604, in the dayH3117 that thou wast bornH3205. 6And when I passedH5674 by thee, and sawH7200 thee weltering in thy bloodH1818, I saidH559 unto thee, Though thou art in thy bloodH1818, liveH2421; yea, I saidH559 unto thee, Though thou art in thy bloodH1818, liveH2421. 7I causedH5414 thee to multiplyH7235 as the bud of the fieldH7704, and thou didst increaseH7235 and wax greatH1431, and thou attainedst to excellent ornament; thy breastsH7699 were fashionedH3559, and thine hairH8181 was grownH1431; yet thou wast nakedH5903 and bareH6181. 8NowH1961 when I passedH5674 by thee, and lookedH7200 uponH5921 thee, beholdH2009, thy time was the time of loveH1730; and I spreadH6566 my skirtH3671 over thee, and coveredH3680 thy nakednessH6172: yea, I sware unto thee, and enteredH935 intoH935 a covenantH1285 with thee, saith the LordH136 GODH136, and thou becamest mine. 9Then washedH7364 I thee with waterH4325; yea, I throughly washedH7364 awayH7857 thy bloodH1818 from thee, and I anointed thee with oilH8081. 10I clothedH3847 thee also with broidered workH7553, and shod thee with sealskin, and I girded thee about with fineH8336 linenH8336, and coveredH3680 thee with silkH4897. 11I decked thee also with ornamentsH5716, and I putH5414 braceletsH6781 uponH5921 thy handsH3027, and a chainH7242 on thy neckH1627. 12And I putH5414 a ringH5141 uponH5921 thy noseH639, and earringsH5141 in thine earsH241, and a beautifulH8597 crownH5850 uponH5921 thine headH7218. 13Thus wast thou decked with goldH2091 and silverH3701; and thy raimentH4403 was of fineH5560 linenH8336, and silkH4897, and broidered workH7553; thou didst eatH398 fineH5560 flourH5560, and honeyH1706, and oilH8081: and thou wast exceedingH3966 beautifulH3302, and thou didst prosperH6743 unto royalH4410 estate. 14And thy renownH8034 wentH3318 forthH3318 among the nationsH1471 for thy beautyH3308; for it was perfectH3632 throughH5921 my majestyH1926 whichH834 I had putH7760 uponH5921 thee, saith the LordH136 GODH136. 15But thou didst trustH982 in thy beautyH3308, and playedst the harlotH2181 becauseH5921 of thy renownH8034, and pouredst outH8210 thy whoredoms on everyH3605 one that passedH5674 by; his it was. 16And thou didst takeH3947 of thy garmentsH899, and madest for thee highH1116 placesH1116 decked with divers colours, and playedst the harlotH2181 uponH5921 them: the like things shall notH3808 comeH935, neitherH3808 shall it be soH6213. 17Thou didst also takeH3947 thy fair jewelsH3627 of my goldH2091 and of my silverH3701, whichH834 I had givenH5414 thee, and madest for thee imagesH6754 of menH2145, and didst playH2181 the harlotH2181 with them; 18and thou tookest thy broidered garmentsH899, and coveredst them, and didst setH5414 mine oilH8081 and mine incenseH7004 beforeH6440 them. 19My breadH3899 also whichH834 I gaveH5414 thee, fineH5560 flourH5560, and oilH8081, and honeyH1706, wherewith I fedH398 thee, thou didst even setH5414 it beforeH6440 them for a sweet savour, and thusH1961 it was; saith the LordH136 GODH136. 20Moreover thou hast takenH3947 thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323, whomH834 thou hast borneH3205 unto meH3947, and theseH834 hast thou sacrificedH2076 unto them to be devouredH398. Were thy whoredoms a smallH4592 matterH4592, 21that thou hast slainH7819 my childrenH1121, and deliveredH5414 them upH5414, in causing them to passH5674 throughH5674 the fire unto them? 22And in allH3605 thine abominationsH8441 and thy whoredoms thou hast notH3808 rememberedH2142 the daysH3117 of thy youthH5271, when thou wast nakedH5903 and bareH6181, and wast weltering in thy bloodH1818. 23And it is comeH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 allH3605 thy wickednessH7451, (woeH188, woeH188 unto thee! saith the LordH136 GODH136,) 24that thou hast builtH1129 unto thee an eminent placeH7413, and hast madeH6213 thee a lofty placeH7413 in everyH3605 streetH7339. 25Thou hast builtH1129 thy lofty placeH7413 at everyH3605 headH7218 of the wayH1870, and hast madeH3605 thy beautyH3308 an abomination, and hast opened thy feetH7272 to everyH3605 one that passedH5674 by, and multipliedH7235 thy whoredom. 26Thou hast also committed fornication with the EgyptiansH4714, thy neighbours, great of fleshH1320; and hast multipliedH7235 thy whoredom, to provokeH3707 meH413 to angerH3707. 27BeholdH2009 therefore, I have stretchedH5186 outH5186 my handH3027 over thee, and have diminishedH1639 thine ordinary foodH2706, and deliveredH5414 thee unto the will of them that hateH8130 thee, the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430, which are ashamedH3637 of thy lewdH2154 wayH1870. 28Thou hast playedH2181 the harlotH2181 also with the Assyrians, becauseH413 thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast playedH2181 the harlotH2181 with them, and yet thou wast notH3808 satisfiedH7646. 29Thou hast moreoverH1571 multipliedH7235 thy whoredom in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, unto ChaldeaH3778; and yet thou wast notH3808 satisfiedH7646 herewith. 30HowH4100 weakH3605 is thine heartH3826, saith the LordH136 GODH136, seeing thou doest allH3605 theseH428 things, the workH4639 of an imperious whorish womanH802; 31in that thou buildest thine eminent placeH1961 in the headH7218 of everyH3605 wayH1870, and makest thy lofty placeH1961 in everyH3605 streetH1870; and hast notH3808 been as an harlotH2181, in that thou scornest hireH868. 32A wifeH802 that committeth adulteryH5003! that taketh strangersH2114 insteadH8478 of herH3947 husbandH376! 33They giveH5414 giftsH5083 to allH3605 harlotsH2181: but thou gavest thy giftsH5083 to allH3605 thy loversH157, and bribest them, that they may comeH935 unto thee on everyH3605 sideH5439 for thy whoredoms. 34And the contrary is in thee from other womenH802 in thy whoredoms, in that noneH3808 followeth thee to commitH5414 whoredom: and whereas thou givest hireH868, and noH3808 hireH868 is givenH5414 unto thee, therefore thou art contrary. 35Wherefore, O harlotH2181, hearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068: 36ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 GODH136, BecauseH5921 thy filthiness was pouredH8210 outH8210, and thy nakednessH6172 discovered throughH5921 thy whoredoms with thy loversH157; and becauseH5921 of allH3605 the idolsH1544 of thy abominationsH8441, and for the bloodH1818 of thy childrenH1121, whichH834 thou didst giveH5414 unto them; 37therefore beholdH2005, I will gatherH6908 allH3605 thy loversH157, with whomH834 thou hast takenH1540 pleasureH7200, and allH3605 them that thou hast lovedH157, with allH3605 them that thou hast hatedH8130; I will evenH3651 gatherH6908 them againstH5921 thee on everyH3605 sideH5439, and will discover thy nakednessH6172 unto them, that they may seeH7200 allH3605 thy nakednessH6172. 38And I will judgeH8199 thee, as women that break wedlock and shedH8210 bloodH1818 are judgedH8199; and I will bringH5414 uponH4941 thee the bloodH1818 of furyH2534 and jealousyH7068. 39I will also giveH5414 thee intoH3027 their handH3027, and they shall throw downH5422 thine eminent placeH5414, and breakH2040 downH5422 thy lofty placesH2040; and they shall stripH6584 thee of thy clothesH899, and takeH3947 thy fair jewelsH3627: and they shall leaveH3240 thee nakedH5903 and bareH6181. 40They shall also bringH5927 upH5927 an assemblyH6951 againstH5921 thee, and they shall stoneH68 thee with stonesH68, and thrust thee throughH5921 with their swordsH2719. 41And they shall burnH8313 thine housesH1004 with fireH784, and executeH5414 judgmentsH8201 uponH784 thee in the sightH5869 of manyH7227 womenH802; and I will causeH5414 thee to ceaseH7673 from playingH2181 the harlotH2181, and thou shalt also giveH5414 noH3808 hireH868 anyH5750 moreH5750. 42SoH4480 will I satisfyH5117 my furyH2534 upon thee, and my jealousyH7068 shall departH5493 from thee, and I will be quietH8252, and will be noH3808 moreH4480 angryH3707. 43BecauseH5921 thou hast notH3808 rememberedH2142 the daysH3117 of thy youthH5271, but hast fretted meH5414 in allH3605 theseH428 things; therefore beholdH3808, I also will bringH5414 thy wayH1870 uponH5921 thine headH7218, saith the LordH136 GODH136: and thou shalt notH3808 commitH5414 this lewdnessH2154 aboveH5921 allH3605 thine abominationsH8441. 44BeholdH2009, everyH3605 one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb againstH5921 thee, sayingH559, As is the motherH517, soH5921 is herH3605 daughterH1323. 45Thou art thy mother’sH517 daughterH1323, that loatheth herH1602 husbandH376 and herH1602 childrenH1121; and thou art the sisterH269 of thy sistersH269, whichH834 loathedH1602 their husbandsH376 and their childrenH1121: your motherH517 was an HittiteH2850, and your fatherH1 an AmoriteH567. 46And thine elderH1419 sisterH269 is SamariaH8111, that dwelleth at thy leftH8040 handH3225, sheH1931 and herH5921 daughtersH1323: and thy youngerH6996 sisterH269, that dwelleth at thy rightH3225 handH3225, is SodomH5467 and herH5921 daughtersH1323. 47Yet hast thou notH3808 walkedH1980 in their waysH1870, norH3808 doneH6213 afterH1980 their abominationsH8441; but, as if that were a veryH1980 littleH4592 thingH8441, thou wast moreH3808 corruptH7843 thanH3808 they in allH3605 thy waysH1870. 48As I liveH2416, saith the LordH136 GODH136, SodomH5467 thy sisterH269 hath notH518 doneH6213, sheH1931 norH518 herH518 daughtersH1323, as thou hast doneH6213, thou and thy daughtersH1323. 49BeholdH2009, this was the iniquityH5771 of thy sisterH269 SodomH5467; prideH1347, fulness of breadH3899, and prosperous easeH7962 was in herH1961 and in herH1961 daughtersH1323; neitherH3808 didH3808 sheH3808 strengthenH2388 the handH3027 of the poorH6041 and needyH34. 50And they were haughty, and committedH6213 abominationH8441 beforeH6440 meH6440: therefore I tookH5493 them awayH5493 as I sawH7200 good. 51NeitherH3808 hath SamariaH8111 committedH2398 halfH2677 of thy sinsH2398; but thou hast multipliedH7235 thine abominationsH8441 moreH3808 thanH3808 they, and hast justifiedH6663 thy sistersH269 by allH3605 thine abominationsH8441 whichH834 thou hast doneH6213. 52Thou also, bearH5375 thine own shameH954, in that thou hast given judgmentH834 for thy sistersH269; throughH4480 thy sinsH2403 that thou hast committedH8581 moreH4480 abominableH8581 thanH4480 they, they are moreH4480 righteousH6663 thanH4480 thou: yea, be thou also confoundedH954, and bearH5375 thy shameH954, in that thou hast justifiedH6663 thy sistersH269. 53And I will turnH7725 againH7725 their captivityH7622, the captivityH7622 of SodomH5467 and herH7725 daughtersH1323, and the captivityH7622 of SamariaH8111 and herH7725 daughtersH1323, and the captivityH7622 of thy captivesH7628 in the midstH8432 of them: 54that thou mayest bearH5375 thine own shameH3639, and mayest be ashamedH3637 becauseH834 of allH3605 that thou hast doneH6213, in that thou art a comfortH5162 unto them. 55And thy sistersH269, SodomH5467 and herH7725 daughtersH1323, shall returnH7725 to their formerH6927 estate, and SamariaH8111 and herH7725 daughtersH1323 shall returnH7725 to their formerH6927 estate, and thou and thy daughtersH1323 shall returnH7725 to your formerH6927 estate. 56For thy sisterH269 SodomH5467 was notH3808 mentioned by thy mouthH6310 in the dayH3117 of thy prideH1347; 57beforeH2962 thy wickednessH7451 was discovered, as at the time of the reproachH2781 of the daughtersH1323 of SyriaH758, and of allH3605 that are roundH5439 aboutH5439 herH3605, the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430, which doH3605 despite unto thee roundH5439 aboutH5439. 58Thou hast borneH5375 thy lewdnessH2154 and thine abominationsH8441, saith the LORDH3068. 59For thusH3541 saith the LordH136 GODH136: I will evenH3588 dealH6213 with thee as thou hast doneH6213, whichH834 hast despisedH959 the oathH423 in breaking the covenantH1285. 60Nevertheless I will rememberH2142 my covenantH1285 with thee in the daysH3117 of thy youthH5271, and I will establishH6965 unto thee an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285. 61Then shalt thou rememberH2142 thy waysH1870, and be ashamedH3637, when thou shalt receiveH3947 thy sistersH269, thine elderH1419 sistersH269 and thy youngerH6996: and I will giveH5414 them unto thee for daughtersH1323, but notH3808 by thy covenantH1285. 62And I will establishH6965 my covenantH1285 with thee; and thou shalt knowH3045 that I am the LORDH3068: 63that thou mayest rememberH2142, and be confoundedH954, and neverH3808 openH6440 thy mouthH6310 anyH3605 moreH5750, becauseH834 of thy shameH954; when I have forgiven thee allH3605 that thou hast doneH6213, saith the LordH136 GODH136.
